"Don't worry, there is too much trouble within Faerûn for us not to find it." Sal reassures Rook. "Though if we find none at sea, it means at least one goddess has decided not to keep her attention on you at least, and it's probably better that way."
(OOC: Sal looks quite young for a half-elf. She's either in her 20s or 30s you think)
Rook beams at Sal. "Ok, I'll try not to worry. You know, like I said, I have all of this new clear knowledge out of nowhere of my magic, but the Blade nor Chauntea suddenly taught me how to fight with a big sword! Luckily Father taught me some, but I'd better practice with Bruz and the others a whole bunch still! I never thought I'd say this, but I guess I should practice flying, too!"
The lad continues to take oversized bites of apple and, somewhat rudely depending on the setting and audience, starts talking with his mouth full. "Hey, speaking of Bruz, I know he was looking for a place to fight! Would you come watch him with me? He should have friends to cheer for him. He's good, I'll bet on him, even! Just a little though, I need to send some money back to Mother. Hey, Sal, do you know how I can do that? What if someone just steals it instead of delivering it? How are any packages really safe, anyway? Hmmm, I've never really thought of that," he finishes in a muffled tone, mouth still full.
OOC Perhaps the latter is more of a question for the DM out of character. Also, any cost for a sizable bag of fruit? Rook will get a mix of stuff depending on what's available. Wonder if there's anything he hasn't tried before!
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Bruz almost literally stumbles into, drinking from his aleskin and signs up for a bout of mediocre difficulty. He has the sway of someone thoroughly drunk, but lithe movements, seeming accidents, belie honed coordination. He bumps into a table only to catch a mug with his foot, right side up, before it hits the ground. He sways to and from, stumbling into a crowd, but never touches a person. When he sees two men sparing, he walks between them both, dodging blades and slipping just inside their reach as they try to move him away.
He attempts similar feats of ostensible drunkenness as he awaits his matches. To him, this all a part of spectacle, the performance of a drunken master!
Performance: 18
Not sure how signing up for the fights, or the fights themselves work, haven't done this before. Are we using the Pit Fighting rules from XGTE or a different system? If there's some kind of buy in, he only has 39 gold, so he would try to buy in for 10, but no more than 20.
Regarding delivery of money, there isn't any good, trustworthy way of sending cash to a person and ensuring it gets there, short of a geas. By far, the best way to ensure value is received would be to buy some items of significant size and value, say a special tool or book or seeds, and then paying for it to be shipped. This would be something known to experienced sailors, who regularly send their loved ones goods.
Fruit is not hard to come by in the markets here, so no significant cost. A few coppers each, perhaps, but not worth recording. Considering Rook's neophyte sailor status, there will certainly be something here he has never had before.
Regarding the fights, for simplicity sake, I'm just going to drop dice based on ranges and results. The amount of money you put down is a bet, not a buy-in, and people around the arena will place bets for and against each match. If it doesn't advance the plot, I'm not going to put a lot of effort on it. Understand though that showing what you are capable of before you fight is going to affect the odds. A good Performance roll, may be a disadvantage in that regards.

Ooc: Hey! Nice to meet you to Hex. Nice to meet all of you. Hope we can get along and have some fun.
And sorry about that DM. Understandable. I will make sure to put it all in the spoiler. I would also like to use another bardic. Just in case.
S'ika nodded in agreement. She looked towards the sky as she thought about what she should play. After about five seconds she adjusted herself and started to play. She decided to go with something that was upbeat. Something that proved that she can keep the beat. As she began, a spectral dancer appeared behind her. It appeared to be a beautiful elf. S'ika paid no mind to it. The performance lasted around one minute and thirty seconds.
Performance: 12

As she finished, she looked the captain in the eyes. "So. Did I...as you say...keep the beat?"
Carolinas does tag along with Bruz and Sebastian for a while, but once Bruz gets a little more liquid courage in him than he should and inquires about signing up for a fight, he slips out of the bar quietly to avoid explaining himself.
Just before he leaves, he will cast (improved) Minor Illusion on something inanimate like a support beam (preferably where no one else is standing) and makes the illusion resemble his face. If there is no support beam then he'll do it on the head of a solitary person who is passed out drunk at a table or on the floor (maybe Bruz would appreciate that as well).
He is hoping to avoid explaining to a drunk Bruz that he wants to leave, so he leaves a temporary illusion in his place. He also doesn't want to get involved in any potential hostilities or signed up for a fight himself!
After leaving, he will walk through the port to try and see if he can find a second passenger to join him. Perhaps another elvish fellow to give his other passenger some company.
Once that is concluded (I will roll whatever is appropriate to find someone) he will see if there is a quiet place to read about magical lore or history regarding the creature they encountered at sea with all the tentacles. Or just anything about creatures of the sea to further aid his survey of the ocean, and to give him insight on what else they may encounter so he will have an idea of how to deal with it.
(Do I need to roll anything else?)
After all that, he will send Archimedes to the air to try and find Sal and Rook.
(I'm cheating on this boilerplate of the recruitment table, just for the newcomers)
Hanging from the front of the table is a colourful banner, reading 'Silken Keel' in both Common & Elvish and you know you've reached your destination. Behind this scarred table sits a finely dressed Elf, rakish and laughing with the two others seated beside him. A loud conversation they were having comes to a halt as you approach, and he looks across the table at you, speaking firmly "What have we here? Another likely recruit for our fine ship? Are you looking for work? If so, we've the place you want to labour aboard! I'm Captain Weatherworn, and these are my First Mate Master Glass and Second Mate Master Ripples. What can we do for you?"
Regardless of your answer, you'll see that both Masters show a happy reverence to their Captain and good will flows in both directions. Master Glass is a thin individual, human, dressed almost as fine as his Captain but with a bit less flamboyant with colour. Master Ripples is a Water Genasi, his pale blue colouring a sure giveaway to his nature. Myriad trinkets hang about his person - rings, amulets, tokens, tattoos - all adorning his body with a cascade of materials over simple leather clothing.
S'ika - The Mates and the Captain look at each other as the dancer appears, then listen a bit harder to your tune. A veritable crowd gathers, with people stopping to listen closely at the song, with some even almost reluctantly dancing a few steps in response. Once finished, there is a rough applause, with coins being tossed at your feet, tinkling and chiming in the various metals. The Captain applauds as well, albeit more sedately and answers you "Yes, that will do most admirably, S'ika Kloreel. You can have the post of Ship's Bard. You will share a cabin with the other women we have on board and be expected to perform during the day, other times as you wish to."
Edit - you gain 13 gold equivalent.
Carolinas - Roll Persuasion to find a passenger, then roll d4-1 for quantity. If you net 0, you didn't find anyone willing to leave three days from now. You can roll once per day. If you spend the time finding a library or wizard's guildhall, you can then roll Arcana with advantage to discover hints about what you encountered after four hours researching. Four more hours of general research on knowledge of sea hazards/encounters will allow you to have the next four rolls you make to identify such creatures with Arcana advantage as well.
I tried to post this in thread earlier, hope it works this time.

"Carloinasss! Loosen up, you look a little stiff!" Bruz slurs at the support beam before bawling with laughter.
Ok, cool. Bruz will bet 10 gold on himself then. The idea for him is less to win money by winning a fight, but more to entertain people, so if he gets trashed he'll do so hilariously.

After hearing crickets chirping following his speech, he goes to find a wizard's guild to research what they encountered or what else the Keel might encounter. He spends the rest of the day there. (8 hrs)
OOC . I'm guessing the DM would like to keep the down time activities moving, so perhaps we can assume Archimedes found Sal and Rook or, alternatively, Sal and Rook found Carolinas making his announcements to potential customers who might travel on the Keel?
Bruz is called up for his combat and is able to hold his own against a far more serious opponent. While not a larger foe, this one proves agile enough to stretch out the duration of the fight, causing the betting to get fast and furious. As a result, Bruz is able to double his bet of 10 GP, and more than a few of those who lost are surprised.
Carolinas spends his day huddled among books and other scholarly types, learning what he can. (Does he spend the 8 hours?) From his research, he determines that the most likely source for the tentacles that attacked the Keel might be a Water Weird, a type of guardian elemental. Why it attacked is unknown, but there are some obvious triggers for it's aggressiveness, if it's guard-point was underwater. During his studies, Archimedes locates Sal and Rook, and reports back on their location to it's distracted wizard.

Bruz - Sadly, while his bout in the ring was impressive, his playing and oratory of recruitment was lacking. No one steps forward to join the passengers lists, although a few seemed interested slightly. Regardless, no new names were added to the roster of travelers.
S'ika - Master Glass answers you with a piece of paper and a statement "We depart in three days, probably at the early tide, so you can get anything you need done, done before then. You are welcome to stow gear any time, just give the deck master my note and he'll see you docked. "
