The area is flat but at where the road bends there is a small hit. At which point the cart will be hidden from both the water and the inn. Only travelers coming from the south or inland will spot them.
"When we near the village, I can create an illusion of sound and perhaps get them to reveal themselvesn then we could then attack them from range before engaging them at close quarters?" She smiles, "I would rather fight them on our terms than theirs!"
(Hot dang I missed some posts. I’m also prepping to head on a cruise for 10 days so I’ll be gone starting this Friday 2/9)
Maz shrugs in agreement and follows the party. “Where you go I go. The story of our legacy unfolds before us.” He shuffles his deck of cards as they journey.
The party continues down the road. Ben and his cart and crew take refuge behind the hill.
As you round the bend the inn comes in view. There are lots smoke coming from a large whole in the roof. You see off shore and a lunch boat on the sand.
There appears to be 5 to 6 pirates outside fighting a few people.
Aquila speaks up... "with no cover I don't think I can get close enough to create a believable distraction...." her voice is tinged w a hint of dussapointment. "I would need to be within a 100' or so of the inn. I could get there unnoticed perhaps, but it would take me a minute or more to get into position."
Marley scowls, "We can move in quickly and hope they don't see us until too late.... or..." he rubs his chin as he ponders the situation. "Another way perhaps, have someone drive the wagon and the rest hide in back. Act like we don't know what's happening, get in close and then attack."
His tail twitches as he looks at the skirmish by the inn and then at the ship. "Risky either way," he adds as he shakes his head.
Going to paint the picture a little better for y'all
You are standing at a curve in the road by a small hill. The road runs along the beach and there are flat grasslands above the road. The area between the party and in is flat with no cover.
This is basically what you see but there is a beach to the left.
If y'all just rush in. You can rush/dash, run, walk/sneak. Will do a number of checks to see if they see you.
If you rush in, least number of checks but your threshold to be spotted is higher.
Run is middle. More checks higher threshold.
Last sneak in most checks highest threshold and you will get to roll stealth to help.
This all assumes you just march straight in. I'll adjust based on your approach.
Because the battle is in full swing we are going to start initiative. (Going with 3 blocks this fight)
Ok roll initiative and continue your battle planning
Maz looks at the fighting and then back at the group “why don’t we just let them kill each other and then go clean up the scraps?” He fiddles with his cards a bit nervous to walk into all the chaos.
Sam outwardly laughs and looks at Maz. "You're not wrong." him says with a smile. "I say we either go sneaky, which I don't do very well. Or, we go loud." Turning to our new friend, "Can you make it appear that there is a great dust cloud in front of us as we move in? Giving the appearance of a large group."
Aquila responds to Sam.... "My ability to create visual illusion is rather limited in size, a dust cloud is undoable. I am better with sound... and can replicate the sound of a crowd shouting,,, But I can do this to sneak up on them...." Aquila drops prone on the ground, and suddenly appears 15' away from the party. Seconds later she disappears again, returning to her prior spot..... "I can teleport short distances at will.... given enough time I can get near enough to the Inn to create a distraction that might divert the marauder's attention."
"But I think our best approach is to get within ranged attack distance... I myself can attack from a range of 120'... of the group by the water unnoticed, and then get off a few volleys while they approach. We will be fighting on open ground either way..."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Marley squints as he looks towards the fighting, "I could hit them from here, but better to be closer, and I'm good at sneaking. How about Aquila and I move in first, off the side of the road, then Sam, you and Maz charge up the road once we're in position?

"Seems like a good plan," Marley nods, replying to Aquila.

Sam you know the launch boat can hold up to 12
Sam says "Well that's probably the half of them set to watch the boat. I'd say we start with them." He will advance with the rest of the party.
D&D since 1984
What are the distances? is there any cover available?
Marley readies his bow, then scans the area around the inn and boat.
Perception: 17
It's 300 ft to the inn. They have not taken notice of you yet. No cover to the inn
Marley with an 11 you see that the ship fired a few cannon shots at the inn. Could be an issue.
