" 2 hours? Fine. Alright I'm going back to bed for two hours, have someone pretty wake me up.", Ravana headed back upstairs, snagging some extra bread from the tables as she did so.
Lumaris nods, then goes to make himself comfortable when he remembers he has a crossbow and bolts that he doesn't need. He gets up and heads to the White Shield. When he enters, he greets the shopkeep, "Good morn. I was hoping that I might be able to sell some of my unneeded equipment and acquire some ammunition." While the shopkeeper goes back and forth, Lumaris casually asks "So what rumours and gossip have travelled around town lately? I hear there's been some beasts on the roads hereabouts."
Kallista silently nods to the group and immediately heads back to her room. Grabbing the shortbow and arrows she stole off some traveler a while back, she makes her way to the White Shield to sell them. She arrives just after Lumaris, catching most of his request. "Here," she interrupts, holding out the arrows to him, "you might as well take these. I was going to sell them, but if you are in need and it will help our cause..." She trails off with a shrug. Turning back to the shopkeep, Kallista places the shortbow on the counter. "I am not in need of this. I would like to sell it."
Hi guys, I'm truly sorry. I mentioned before that I am a teacher, and our school district recently approved plans for our Fall Back to School, and as soon as the vote went through I was absolutely smashed with calls, emails, etc. from admin, teachers, and even a couple of parents of my former students.
I should have communicated with you guys, I apologize, I just got overwhelmed with my other responsibilities, and I'll do better in the future.
The Shops
Heading into the center of town, you see a large roundabout plaza, the center holds an amphitheatre where a small group of bards are playing. Hawkers tend to populate the center of the plaza, with the more established businesses such as the trading companies taking up the buildings surrounding the roundabout. Each general store has an individual dressed in motley handing out flyers and shouting disparaging things about their competition.
The Four-Eyed Raven
A simple sign post rest over the door of this establishment: built of wood with teal paint and white trim and a simple burgundy door. You enter in and a chime above the door sounds, you hear a rustle behind the counter and two heads point out: a kenku wearing spectacles and a green-haired gnomish woman.
The Kenku's head seems to expand in size as the feathers flare out when he sees the new customers, he squawks out several quick "'Eh-lo. 'Eh-lo. 'Eh-lo".
The gnomish girl calls out "Hi, welcome to the Four-Eyed Raven!"
Along with some magical gear they have a variety of potions available.
Gear Available
+1 Shortsword 510 GP
Dagger of Warning 3000 GP
Potions of Healing 50 gp a piece
Potion of Hill Giant Strength 150 gp
Antidote 75 gp a piece
The Smith
The smithy and jeweler is run by a high-elven couple. Unprompted the proprietor is glad to tell you of his loyalties to Saray and not "A single damn copper" goes to those traitors in Myteric, his wife, during this time, sighs, rolls her eyes, and mutters under her breath as she continues working on a fine bracelet.
The smithy is able to make any armors available in the Handbook at a 15% markup (due to the wartime economy).
Any jewelry you would like is available at a variety of prices, with cheaper earrings being as little as a single gold piece, and fine necklaces being nearly 50 gp.
The General Stores
You can choose to enter into whichever general store you choose, if an employee of another store sees you entering they are sure to hurl verbal abuse at you, questioning the contents of your brain when a clearly superior general supply store is available on the other end of the market.
Each general store supplies any basic equipment available in the Player's Handbook, but with a markup of 10% (again, due to the wartime economy). Anything you seek to sell can be sold, but unfortunately you'll get 10% less than what you would hope to get (and basing these prices on the Player's Handbook).

Asking at some of the stores, the smith offers, "Yeah, I saw something matching that description... Maybe a little over a week ago? Striking piece, brought in by some disheveled urchin. I could tell the thing was stolen but before I could get my hands on the scoundrel he fled. Probably tried to sell it to some Northender brothel creature."

I could tell the thing was stolen but before I could get my hands on the scoundrel he fled. Probably tried to sell it to some Northender brothel creature."
Tavryn felt his jaw tighten in annoyance.
Just freakin missed it. Damn.
Pulling a few silver pieces deftly from a hidden pouch Tavryn holds one up in between two fingers to let the morning sun shine off of it. "I apologize, obviously I'm not from around here, I'm not clear on what that you mean. What Northender brothel creature? A brothel patron? Is this 'creature' or person still in town? I'm willing to pay for truthful and...private...information."
OOC: Tavryn will nonchalantly display 5 sp to the man to pay for the info. If the man seems truthful and sincere ((Insight Check)) then Tavryn will pay the smithy with promise of more for continued reliable intel.
"If you happen to see this person again...or any others asking about the amulet and get the information to me, I'll pay you another full gold. If you get me any information that leads directly to me reclaiming the property I seek I will see that you receive another 10 gold. Do we have an agreement?"
OOC: Tavryn will try to make sure the man understands the proposition and understands that he is sincere. If a Persuasion or any other checks are needed please do so. Thanks! Also, Tav doesn't particularly need anything on the shopping front currently. Although, it's good to know that we have a reasonable outfitter nearby now to use as needed.
Lastly, Tav does not want to hold up the group but getting the amulet is his TOP concern at present. However, if no close/easy leads present themselves after the Smithy conversation he returns to the Inn at the appointed departure time. One way or the other he is road ready and preparred to depart at mid-morning.
Also, Ne3ko, no worries on the brief absence. Life gets busy at times. I imagine everyone in group understands that completely. Appreciate the heads-up though for sure. I hope the school scheduling and organizing stuff works out somewhat reasonably in the midst of all the current Covid-19 stuff. It's gotta be a little maddening for teachers to deal with so much stuff this year that never has been even a consideration before now. 2020 has been a doozy so far...
Lumaris sells his Crossbow, Light for 10gp and the Crossbow Bolts for 4sp (both at 40% PHB cost). He doesn't require anything else at this point, though he also doesn't have mass amounts of gold.
(OOC - also, no worries on life getting busy. It happens.)
Kallista sells her Shortbow for 10gp, and then, with some hesitation, decides to buy two Daggers for 4gp and 4sp. Storing her newly purchased items on her belt, she steps out of the smithy. Immediately she stops in her tracks, noticeably tensing as she hears the shopkeeps shouting insults at a man across the plaza. Her gaze is fixed on them for a long moment.
(OOC: No worries, I completely understand! Life gets busy sometimes, it happens to all of us. Also, I think I did the prices right, but let me know if something seems off.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Thanks for understanding, guys. At the very least our school district has a plan going forward and we're doing virtual learning until things are safer, so just having the assurance of what we're doing going forward is nice.
And again, thank you for your patience, without further ado, let's return to our adventure:
(Also, it looks like everybody's math is on point, I am not a math teacher for a reason though)

The smith graciously accepts the silver, and assures you he will keep a close eye out for any sign of the amulet, "Ah... Well, the cheapest places to stay in town are with the Northenders, and... well.." He stammers and blushes, looking away.
"Prostitution." the Jeweller chimes from across the shop.
Kallista
You see one man in fool's motley pursuing another man, shouting obscenities at him.
The fool: "Harald, I knew that was ye, ye good for nothing, after all the Dales company has done fer ye, ye buy yer iron spikes at Kobolds? Ye bastard!"
Harald: "Kobold's sells 'em cheaper and they're a nicer quality, ye commented on the quality the last time ye saw my work adding to yer nan's fireplace."
With this the fool gasps audibly, clutching his chest and pausing, before pursuing the man again, demanding he remove those "Damned Kobold spikes from my poor nan's home, her heart couldn't handle it, my heart can't!"
A few hours later...
Gathering your impromptu adventuring company you exit out the western gates of Respite. After about an hour of leisurely walking you see a large mansion perched on a rock-encrusted hilltop, a winding trail hewn from the stone itself leads to the estate. At the base of the trail you see a small tent, as well as a collection of house guards. As your group approaches an armored figure, clad entirely in plate mail, his helmet with a large feathered crest atop it, and a singular small eye hole as well as a series of very thin slits creating a grille at the front of his helmet, which is emblazoned with vines and hunting scenes, which extend into the rest of his armor.
A voice that sounds almost like a stage whisper, amplified and brassy, booms out of the helmet:
"THIS... THIS IS MOST FORTUITOUS, GENTLEMEN. TRAVELERS, I ASSUME YOU COME FOR BOUNTIES? I'VE THINK I'VE QUITE THE QUANDARY FOR SUCH A GROUP OF ADVENTURERS."
The figure turns quickly, and rapidly begins marching towards a few horses and a cart, he begins shouting orders to ready the cart for people, and to prepare his horse. The camp explodes into a flurry as a secondary begins to assume command of the soldiers staying there, the figure turns and stares at your group.
"AH. YES. HOW RUDE OF ME. I AM LORD VALTYR DE REYNES, PLEASE, JOIN ME AND WE MAY DISCUSS MY PREDICAMENT."
After allowing you nearly a quarter of a second to reply---
Lumaris looks quizzically at the iron clad noble, but shrugs. "We saw your notice in Respite, my lord. I am Lumaris, and these are my companions. We're happy to join you, for coin of course. Seems you're in a hurry, so let's discuss on the way." And with that, Lumaris deftly hops up into the cart and offers a hand to any of his companions that want help up.

Seems you're in a hurry, so let's discuss on the way." And with that, Lumaris deftly hops up into the cart and offers a hand to any of his companions that want help up.
Ravana nodded and part of her prayed the noble did not mention one beast in particular.
Tavryn grabs the hand of Lumaris and pulls himself up into the cart. Patting the bowman's shoulder as he makes his way to a seat he nods in agreement at Lamaris' words.
"Mi'lord, we've not much information on what you require. The letter and townsfolk were both...vague. Perhaps you could give us some information on exactly what sort of predicament you mean?"
You all pile into the back of the wagon, Valtyr takes the front along with a house guard who takes the reins.
Even in full plate the figure seems to have little difficulty moving, and as the cart lurches forward he turns to speak: "Respite has been the home of the De Reynes family for generations, with the troubles going on I see it as my duty to keep the roads near the estate safe. We do good work."
The guard chimes in, "Damn good, sir."
"Our patrols keep a wide area safe from all manner of beasts and brigands... Tribes of beastfolk, goblinoids, and orcs have grown rampant, and now, well, guardsman, you were there, tell them what you found on patrol this morning."
The guard shoots a quick glance back, human, you're not sure of the age of the man, as the collection of windburn and battle scars has a face who's texture could be described as "hedgehog made of sandpaper".
"Right, morning patrol, right before the sun crested, 'bout hour and a half out ran into a train of three wagons, all occupants slaughtered, horses too. There are signs of an attack, arrows and all that, but... The attackers are dead too, bunch of orc bodies ripped to shreds. Something strong, big claws. It's too far north for gnolls, but there was something else there too."
The cart ride is uneventful and you make your way to the site of this attack: a wide turn in a heavily forested area along a well-traveled road: there are two other guards stationed there keeping others from messing with the area.
You cannot see much in the area around you besides tall pine trees and a small creek running parallel to the road.
Three wagons in various states of destruction line the side of the road, you can see arrows poking out of them, and each seems to almost be painted in gore.
The bodies, or what is left of them, have been arranged by the side of the road.
Valtyr says to the group, "So, clearly, something dangerous has moved in to the territory." Even under his helmet you can tell he is appraising your worth, "I'll pay you 100 gold each upon finding out what the hells did this and killing it.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Lumaris nods to the noble and jumps down, "We'll see what we can do." He trudges off to investigate the bodies (Investigation: 14) to try and ascertain what might have caused such injuries to the attacking orcs.

Lumaris nods to Kallista, "Thank you, my new friend," turning back to the shopkeep he amends his order.
Ravana snores contentedly.
