Seemingly distracted, Lostur paffs a hand into a fist. "Lockpicks! I should've looked for lockpicks! Did anyone else find any?" He turns around when Brenvull asks about the items and scratches his head. "I don't know much about magic, but why don't you open the bag and look inside at least? Or try to cut something with the sword?"
"Could always attempt to prise it apart with my Halberd, if you think that'll work"Lorvax grunts absent-mindedly.
"These schematics are far to complicated for goblin-kin. Reckon that they stole them from someone? Or might there be some greater foe at work here?" he muses out-loud to the rest of the party.
Staring at the odd assortment of items in front of Brenvull, Lorvax asks, "Are any of those items of any use Brenvull? They'll just burden us otherwise."
"Yes we can smash the lock "Kray taps her shield "No need to be subtle my friend " she smiles to Brenvull.
"That's interesting"her attention turn towards the magic objects "Allow me to see that sword"
She retrieves it from the pile and examine it.
( Any chance that we may recognize the objects as part of the equipment of other dragonborns? I mean, they could have retrieve this things from the ruins and were trying to access the rest for more treasure)
Still scratching his head, Lostur attempts to make sense of the mine schematic on the table. "Wonder what this is?" he mutters aloud, squinting and trying to read it. (If it's in Abyssal, he could.) Whether or not he could make heads or tails of it, he'd roll up the schematic and pocket it, thinking it might be useful later down the road.
"Lostur - did you find anything of use among those items you dumped on the floor? I'd rather make sure we don't leave anything behind which might assist our enemy." Lorvax looks through the items Lostur emptied out on to the floor.
Brenvull entering the command tent you see the soft glow of magic emanating from the large chest. It is somewhat obscured and difficult to define meaning that the chest is most likely lead lined or warded in some way.
Kray you lift the sword and study it. [In the absence of an identify spell you can roll Arcana or History for any of these items].
Lostur you pocket the schematic having failed to decipher the script. It is not a language any of you posses.
Lorvax you rummage around in the pile of gear as Lostur stands over you grumbling something about lockpicks. You are not familiar with the items but you do spy a leather pouch that appears to fit the description Lostur is giving you. This set of tools includes a small file, a set of lock picks, a small mirror mounted on a metal handle, a set of narrow-bladed scissors, and a pair of pliers. You have found a set of Thieves' Tools.
You are all standing in the command tent. The magical items that Brenvull recovered sit on the table now and the chest on the floor remains unopened.
"I couldn't make heads or tails of it," Lostur says sourly to Lorvax. He grunts in surprise as the other man hands him the set of tools; after inspecting them, a smile blossoms on his craggy maw. It looks predictably horrible, since Lostur doesn't smile very often. "Ah, thank you. Just what I needed! Here, maybe you can read what it says." He digs out the now-slightly-crumpled map and hands it over.
Spotting the chest, he wonders why it hasn't been opened yet. "You think it's maybe trapped?" he asks, before looking at the pile of tools in his hands. "Well... might be a good time to test these out. I haven't done this in a while, though." Squatting by the chest, he inspects it carefully for any signs of mechanical traps or other dangers that might be keeping it closed. And, of course, any locks.
Investigation: 5(ugh) If it is, indeed, locked, seeing as how it can't possibly be trapped in any way, shape, or form, Lostur will try to pop the lock: 6(double ugh)
Lorvax raises an eyebrow at Lostur, clearly sceptical at his ability with the lockpicking tools,"Are you sure you do not need assistance there brother?" He lets it slide however, "Mayhaps it is best we rely on my Halberd."
Taking his Halberd, Lorvax will attempt to pry the chest open - using his weapon as a lever.
"Lorvax, look out, there is magic.... Oh well... We wanted it open anyway." Brenvull continues using his 10 mintues of detect magic to find any magic stuff. "Feel free to look at any of the items I collected. In a few minutes I will join you in looking it over.
Kray you get a sense that short of an identify spell, this weapon would acquire attunement before unlocking its true potential. You do get the feel that it is somehow producing heat.
Lorvax the chest springs open. A bundle of fine cloth sits atop the contents, lifting it out you find that it is a fine black hooded cloak with a dark oily sheen. Brenvull you still have detect magic up so can see that it holds powerful illusion magic. Inside the chest you see a small crate of vials. Several scroll cases and a pouch containing close to 500 gold.
OOC: As before a History or Arcana roll per item to identify. If you do not make the DC like the sword, its then a short rest of study or attunement. There are seven vials, four you would immediately recognise as potions of greater healing. The other three, along with the three scrolls will require identifying. I suggest you gather all of this up, note it down and do some identifying on the fly ;) but your call.
You all decide to take your time to investigate some of these magical items. Brenvull, at the urging of Lostur you study the gloves. You slip them on and feel them meld into your flesh, almost like a second skin. Over the next hour you begin to understand their use as Gloves of Missile Snaring. Lostur you study the bag, while you hand the decanter to Lorvax.
Lostur you jump back in surprise as you pluck a small fuzzy object from the bag and it transforms into a weasel and bites you on the finger. The Grey Bag of Tricks does not require attunement. Neither does the Decanter of Endless Water Lorvax, which you recognise almost straight away.
Kray as you feel the inner warmth emanating from the blade you close your eyes and whisper you masters name, as if pleading with him for help. The name of Balorian seems to act as a trigger and the blade springs to life in your hand. You feel your body respond to it as you suddenly become attuned and understand this weapon. It is a flame-tongue-longsword. Unfortunately as the blade catches fire so does the tent!
"Gaah!" Lostur yells in surprise, waving his hand around as the weasel hangs onto his finger. "Gaaah!"he yells louder as the tent catches fire overhead. Looking, almost teary-eyed, towards Lorvax, he begs, "DO SOMETHING!"
Looking back and forth between his newly acquired Decanter of Endless Waterand Lostur, a thought quickly hatches in Lorvax’s mind. Springing into action he uncorks the decanter, aims it at Lostur and the weasel, and yells“GEYSER!”
"Wha--" Lostur's protest is drowned out as he's hit by a geyser of water. Try as he might, he can't stay upright (STR save: 10) and is knocked prone (taking 3 damage). On the plus side, the weasel is also knocked away from Lostur's finger, though it takes a bit more force to rip it off. (STR save: 12) The sheer force of the water unsummons the demon-weasel from the bag it came (it took 3 damage).
Sitting up slowly, Lostur spits out the water and stares at the tent, still flaming, overhead, and then stares back at Lorvax. After a beat, he says, "Good plan, you got the little bastard!" and gives the other man a thumbs-up.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Brenvull chuckles at the encounter with the weasel. "Don't be so spooked by the creature Lostur. It seemed friendly toward you." He then goes over towards the cloak to see if he recognizes it from before being in stasis. (History: 11)
He will then rummage trough stuff looking for diamonds (300gp worth). 4
Lorvax shrugs apologetically to Lostur,"Sorry about that brother - probably should have given that more thought." He helps Lostur to his feet.
As he see's Brenvull chuckling away, Lorvax let's out a hearty laugh. "I don't know Brenvull... that's no ordinary weasel! Must admit though, this trinket..." He holds up the decanter,"... looks like it could be mighty useful... Never know what Lostur might pull out of that bag next!"
"What?!... oh!! wow... look at... oh... shit... shit... lookout!!" are the words that came out as Kray sees the sword ignite and she waves it and accidentally touches the tent.
She tries not to laugh when Lorvax uses the decanter to put out the flames and throw Lostur away.
"Sorry... this caught me off guard. " with a brief moment of concentration she turns it off. "It will be truly useful indeed."She looks up to Balorian and thnaks her Master in silence.
