Yes, I agree that the free interaction should include either an equip or unequip. The definition of an object gives a sword as an example, it doesn't make sense that drawing a weapon or putting it away would be the same level of interaction as opening a door.
Even just dropping a weapon or picking it up is really the same movement, you can do it with one hand with limited amount of actual interaction (open hand and let weapon fall versus put hand/arm out and grab object, pull object back to you).
I don't understand the argument against it being a free interaction, but since it doesn't say it outright the argument is being made that it falls to the Attack Action interaction and not the Free Interaction.
