Is there a way to create a weapon that does 2d4 base damage with a bonus 1d6 that D&D Beyond will actually roll the damage for? I just can't get it to work. Also how do you extend the crit range of the weapon?
To the best of my knowledge, you cannot alter the base damage die of a weapon. You can alter the base damage type, i.e. turn Piercing into Radiant or whatever, but you can neither change the die type nor add/subtract base damage die. Bonus damage shows up as a different clickable button, unaffected by critical hits, and the Homebrew system was built before the dice roller and as such nothing you can do in the homebrew tools interacts with the roller for things such as clickable expanded crit range.
All excellent reasons why I wish people would quit trying to build Clickable Buttons onto character sheets and just create a roller system that allows you to specify a dice expression and then name the roll, i.e. "Mindshank Dagger crit roll, ((2d4+1d6)*2)+4", have the roll happen, and then the tool displays the roll with the given name. That way players and DMs STILL HAVE F&%!ING CONTROL OVER WHAT THEY ROLL(!!!!!), and you get all the good-times fun of throwing virtual dice that DDB is literally banking on. Much better system. Glugh.
Just tried it with a modified Oathbow, which was challenging, as apparently dndbeyond's dice roller works on my phone but not on my pc. Can confirm dndbeyond won't roll the additional damage dice set on a magic weapon - it literally just ignores the modifiers.
EDIT: Tried a similar trick with a custom spell, and there's just no apparent way to make my homebrew spells show up in my spell list, so I can't test it.
Got your specifications by using a double bladed scimitar.
EDIT: Tried to roll it and it did not roll the extra d6....this apparently doesn't work on ANY magic item with extra die. This is pretty bad as thats a pretty basic function of a roller.
I would suggest you guys use something like foundry or Roll20 to roll die then.

Is there an official weapon that is similar to what you are trying to do? I will give it a try and see if I can get it to work.
Check out my Homebrew Magic Items

That was the wall that I hit. I'll just use roll20. I guess this is just a good source for panning but not a very good tool to run games from.
Thanks.
