So we are planning to play descent into avernus and our party consists of
clockwork sorc warforged
Fighter warforged planning to go echo knight
a knowledge cleric firbolg
tiefling redemption paladin.
I have decided on playing an artificer and I am race wise going a Verdan which my DM encouraged lol, I rolled really good stats 9, 15, 16, 16, 16, 18
I cut out alchemist for obvious reasons and said no to the artillerist because demons are dick heads with their stat blocks...
Anyways, I was wondering what would be good in avernus with my party? I am choosing between armorer and battlesmith both are something i wanted to play one day anyways!
So anyone have any advice on this side of things? He is a verdan engineer who tinkers on his own time, makes a living helping other craftsmen (hints his wide knowledge of craft tools), and he accidentally became a folk hero when just trying to get piece of mind for himself from stopping a local guild from shaking down the elderly and their shops through out smarting them (he is level 1 obviously he isn't charging into HQ and beating everyone up lol).
honestly idk on one hand with armorer you become doom guy or ironman essentially in hell with powered armor
But on the other hand as a battle smith you become a tech ranger with some versatility
Both seem fun, I just know some things in this module can be bullshit and trying not to read up on any spoilers for it while trying to figure out how not to become a useless ****** mess XD
So overall I was wondering from others on how good both are pros and cons kinda deal and what would be recomended.
Like armorer has lots of thunder damage which is nice for dealing with devils while battle smith has the ability to make weapons scale with int against the demons with a companion
Plus i don't want to gimp my party too hard since I know I heard some fights in this module are just dumb as written lol
yeah but is that the only real benefit there? idk just struggling with the pick lol
both seem a lot of fun honesty, I mean if my DM rules armorer can't enchant magic armor i turn into arcane power armor then battlesmith is obvious but yeah the infusing only mundane items i find kinda dumb in general due to that being the whole shtick and the created magical items being not that super amazing but useful tools. (not complaining about the magic items created because i ******* love utility, it's more of some design choices confuse me the more i look at them)
I can't speak to the amorer, but I'm currently playing with a battlesmith and he's pretty darn effective... It's like what the ranger wishes it could be... Great AC, decent damage output, pet and a good selection of spells..Not to mention the utility of infusions.. Just seems like a solid choice to me.
see that is the kind of info i am looking for lol also mamatoast I gotta say i saw your comment on a post i was reading about artificer infusions on armorer arcane armor like 20 mins ago lol

Well, which one do you think sounds more fun? Both are solid subclasses.
Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.

If you are concerned about the toughness of fights, go Battlesmith. The steel defender can soak up a decent amount of damage.
