Hi everyone, I am new at D&D and am wondering if anyone might have some advice for what path to take for a character idea I have.
I have a back story for a pixie who has an affinity for earth and stone and has the ability to basically create a stone mech suit type elemental around himself. I don't have the experience to homebrew a new class to fit this, so I am planning to just use an existing class and flavor it to make sense RP wise. I was leaning towards either Barbarian or Circle of the Moon Druid as his abilities would fit the barbs rage or the druids wild shape. In any case, if he was suited up he would get larger (possibly scaled with level, something like tiny>small at levels 1-8, tiny>medium levels 8-20) and lose his pixie flight and magic abilities as well as any strength penalties. Not sure how best to balance this to make it workable but not OP.
I am also the DM so no worries there. I know DM characters are frowned upon, but it's just a family game and without another character we wouldn't have enough players.
Does anyone have any ideas that could help make this work?

You could go for an armorer artificer and have donning the arcane armor increase the character's size when worn.
Wow thank you! It certainly seems to fit the narrative, I will look into it
