I have been trying to homebrew an item that adds a damage bonus for individual instances of the item, but essentially combine to stack the bonus. Is there a way to give this feature to an item, or do I just have to put that in the description and let it be the player's responsibility to remember and add?
Presuming you mean something akin to "Ring of Doohickus" and each copy of Ring of Doohickus a single character attunes to improves a single bonus?
If so: there's no way for the builder to track that. That sort of modifier is foreign to D&D, and DDB can't really do anything that D&D doesn't do somewhere. You'll have to configure it manually, and I'd recommend against doing such an item in the first place unless it's for story/plot reasons. There's a lot of reasons it wouldn't work well as random loot, but anything can try to go for Plot McGuffins I suppose.
The eye and hand of vecna kind of work like this. They qre 2 separate items that each require attunement, but combined only take 1 attunement slot. To make this work, there is a combo version of the items.
Note that the eye and hand are artifacts meant for the highest tier of play as well. As Yurei was saying doing this is not recommended as it can be problematic for game balance. That said if the items are limited in number and effect - you can only combine either 3 +1 items or a +1 & +2 to get a +3 or 2 +1s to get a +2 and they are encountered at different tiers of play so as to not be unbalancing I suppose a case could be made for it.

TLDR: make a ×2, ×3, ... version.
