How about just a critical role animated series? They could get a team of developers to turn their weekly sessions into an animated series, I feel like that'd be highly liked by the community. It'd almost be like sitting in on their sessions but now all the visualization is done for you so you can sit back and relax. I would love this, I've really wanted them to do this too. Screw their comic book series and make ways for the animated series! XD
I love the Idea and think it would not only help paramount D&D in general but also D&D Beyond's use too. i don't know if i would shoot for right then and there but i do think if they started at episode one they could get a good amount of episode done before they caught up to the actual current critical roll story episodes. That said there is one thing i would strongly recommend if they ever do decide to do it. Would be to use critical roll as the story base and if willing the voice actors that actually play in it. otherwise you may lose support really fast. there is a really good synergistic relationship between critical roll and D&D Beyond so they should build on it and work together if they can. Because there is A LOT they could do if they started to build off each other for D&D as a hole.

You want a 4+ hour weekly session animated? That would take literally forever. They could start animating campaign one right now and we would be on campaign 15 before they get even HALF way through animating campaign one. Yeah, it would be cool, but it would take forever, so it would never happen. An animated series, sure, this as an animated series - no.
I love the idea of a new D&D animated series. I don’t watch critical role but that would be good branding and I am pretty sure a 4 hour game session could be condensed into 30 minutes of animation pretty easily.
I agree Fjw70. Just think about how long combat takes and how long it would actually be. One round is about 6 seconds and a lot happens at the same time.
Of course, you would have to leave out some not so important things and concentrate on the main story but I think it would be very doable.

Yeah, combat can be condensed to be sure, but you would have to leave a lot cut out to squeeze 4+ hours into a 22 min runtime episode. Plus the audio would have to be re-recorded. Realistically it would be better to do an animated series with the character, but write original adventures and stories just for the show. From a production standpoint turning the show we have into an animated show is virtually impossible.
But, yeah I would totally watch an animated dnd show with the cast of Critical Role, playing characters from either campiagn or entirely new characters.

I disagree, I think it could be doable with the right writers, and if there is enough content, one session could be slipt into 2 episodes. Don't forget some of the streams is the intro, breaks that take a while and the outtro. So take them out and you shorten the time you have to work with. Actions and descriptions will be shorted since we will see them and not have them explained to us which will shorten the time more. When the cast are laughing at each other will also be cut out. So I think The Mightly Nien animation would be awesome and doable.

One time I rolled a crit one, five times in a row.

Even if you cut out alllll the stuff you mentioned, you still have at least 90+ minutes of content (not including animated combat sequences of 3-5 minutes). A single episode would have to be cut into at least 4 parts, the audio would have to be re-recorded and the narrative would have to be tweaked, then you could cut together the idea and do story boards. Once all of that is done then all that goes into animation.
Have you read the CR comics? They are quite short and could work as a base maybe. The comics are a lot shorter, so I think it could be done. Could be another quest/group. Or sidequests that we didn't see in the main game.

So many options.
I agree the comics are there own stories, outside of what we see on Critical Role, and that format would totally work as an animated series. A number of the people responding want them to animate Critical Role as we have it and that just isn't realistic.
I am fairly certain that with it's boom of popularity and still growing, whoever jumps on the animated D&D series will end up with a HIGHLY popular show. It could be a rehash of something that's been done (CR streams were mentioned) but i really think something original would be better and much simpler to create. A kickoff could/would be great, maybe have the CR crew do a brief mini-campaign, taking their characters from 1-5 or so, then ending with a slew of open issues in the land, that have been referenced in the mini campaign. Matt and the crew could contribute as writers as required, but the characters would then have depth, fan following and some base to build from in the animated series, which could pick up in whatever town they were in a the end of the streamed campaign bit. Lots of room for character growth and development and again, the crew would be available to help outline what their character would do in the series and how they would progress.
I, for one, would sign up for a subscription to a channel or service that was going to offer a series based on D&D, pretty quick.

So you're gonna sign up for Prime and watch The Legend of Vox Machina?
Side note, isn't a D&D show just any isekai anime where a random person gets transported to a fantasy world?
I've had Prime for almost 2 years and I am going to kick off watching the series as soon as I finish Campaign 2. So if it ends up on Prime (another one) I won't have to spend any more to enjoy it. Pretty excited to get into the one running now, and trying hard to avoid spoilers lol.

Well, since you mentioned it, here is a new series based on D&D. Chapter One includes how to choose an adventuring outfit, and how not to form a party...

After watching the DnD Beyond Trailer I realized how much I would love an animated series like this.
What are your thoughts?
