Its an insta link but still. Having announced that they will support third party Publishers and third party content is a big deal and a direct shot across the bow.
Its what people have been asking for from D&D Beyond since the inception.
absolutely zero impact unless they want to support the entirety of the new setting I have developed.
and that ain't gonna happen, lol.

I think it's interesting in the sense of them saying they'll support third-party publishers, which essentially means they're going to support Homebrew. How deep does that support go is really going to be the question.
If they're going to support things like custom classes, different proficiency bonuses, spell points. Things that people have been asking D&D beyond for for 6 years? I think it'll be a true game changer.
Just cuz it's insta shouldn't necc give rise to skepticism, it looks legit to me and not actually that surprising given DemiPlane's ambitions. I think MellieDM formerly of here oversees social media with Demiplane as part of her community job there (and kinda speaks to how important old school forums like these are to community engagement in online TTRPG spaces from another thread).
It's interesting. Does Demiplane support homebrew at all for any of its current offerings (I guess Pathfinder would be the most relevant?)? My sense is you had to "buy in" to most of the systems they support, so while I think Adam and Mellie and other DDB alumni are cool folk, it has it's limitations presently. For example, I'd love it if I could pick and choose mechanics from the various Free League games they support to sorta run my own mash up of T2K/Alien/Bladerunner/Mutant, but the little perusal I've done of Demiplane doesn't make it seem like that's possible.
In the end it comes down to how the service I've currently bought into evolves. I don't see myself "buying into" DDB content beyond subscription currently. If what I have on DDB now becomes frustrated by evolutions or developments or what have you, I'd be in the market for a new service, and Demiplane would definitely be one of the first places I'd explore seriously.
They don't support homebrew yet, since Pathfinder is the first "nexus" and it's still in Alpha, but they have full plans on it.
It just depends on how deep that rabbit hole goes. D&D Beyond and it's homebrew support is limited by what Wizards officially supports. If you're going to say you support 3PP? It in my head means you're opening the gates to some serious wacky shit.

There was that rumor floated during the leaks that DDB always had the capacity to open up the tools to custom character classes, just WotC said no, this would be that.
I'm not sure I understand the difference between Pathfinder Nexus and how the other games it supports are serviced, though I think even those are sort of in a beta or not full catalog form.
Guess I'll stay tuned.
On a more buzzkill level "open to 3pp" may mean they're willing to open up a marketplace and it might require a level of "developer license" or something to participate in their 3pp marketplace for 5e SRD, but I'm typing too many acronyms now.

So Nexus is the general term they've used for a digital toolset. Pathfinder is the first one being developed, but Bradford has said in the Dev Updates(man, its nice having those!) that as the tools in the back are being developed on purpose to be open ended, that other toolsets will be much easier to basically copy and paste. They're just working on Pathfinder first since Paizo was their first big deal and Pathfinder is arguably the 2nd biggest TTRPG market.
The thing that kind of makes me happy in that sense is that Pathfinder and 5e are in theory very, very much copy and paste in terms of back end development work. There are mechanical differences between the two, but functionally they do work very similar because of how Pathfinder was developed.
Gotcha. Back in the fall Demiplane opened up Early Access membership for Alien (I think just the core book, with plans to bring the Marines manual and some of the cinematic scenarios online) and Mutant (but I think just Mutant, which is shame because there are two-three other "games" set in that world that I think are more fun to play in). MellieDM played on a few Demiplane stream demos for Mutant.
They're much further along with Pathfinder and I agree and am also interested in the foundation for the 5e SRD being somewhat already laid out because of the Pathfinder work.

If it is close to this ddb thing I will leave immediatly and never come back. I only use ddb because I have a dm that uses it. Otherwise I would delete my free account.

well let's put like this Adam Bradford the guy behind DDB is also the guy behind Demiplane and they've already got a character builder (alpha) for Pathfinder 2e

I will note that telling me that the people who made DDB are making a new version of it is not a selling point.
I play D&D. I do not use any published setting. I use a crap ton of homebrew rules for pretty much everything — one person said it was like I took 2e, skipped 3 and 4 with a look of nausea at them, and then mashed in 5e. (From tonight’s talk, lol)
I don’t use DDB for my games because even if I step away from my solutions, I cannot use spell points, or Sanity, or odds and ends of optional rules.
they didn’t have it before the sale, so blaming wizards doesn’t work.
when I said fully support my setting, I mean fully — and that includes not just the SRD, but all the little bits of of changes. Essentially creating a fork of its own.
So they don’t mean single creators, they mean established systems by teams. I would have better luck approaching a vtt site.

<Snip>
It also supports Vampire, which is very different mechanically to D&D or PF2e & not just Vampire but ATLA, Alien, Marvel and a couple of others, I've not played any of those, so I don't know how mechanically similar to D&D they are, but it's clear their aim is to support a wide range of systems. I suspect homebrew isn't all that high on the list, I don't think it's unimaginable that they'll allow you to defined additional mechanics once they start working on enabling homebrew for all. They'll need to actually have the functionality under the hood for supporting 3PPs.
I've certainly had a good experience with Nexus for PF & that's certainly their biggest market at the moment. But competition for DDB is very welcome!
Seems like there will be character creator options. My challenge and dislike of DnDBeyond is I buy physical copies of the books from my local game store. So If I want to use DNDBeyond I have to essentially buy the book twice. If Demiplane is going to offer a character creator that is cheaper than buying the book twice and/or is not a monthly subscription then I'll be very excited. I prefer to use a character creator. My handwriting is atrocious.

Oh this is a definite game changer! Who do you think is going to host Critical Role’s RPG.

Yeah, I saw that. I am really hopeful
Badeye (Adam) has been pretty clear his intent for Demiplane was to create a DDB like tool set for as many TTRPGs as they are able.
