I want to run a campaign in which the PCs are the heads of a village that is under constant attack. They are tasked with building defenses and traps, making money, and recruiting more help from other villages. Perhaps raiding other villages and going on the offensive eventually.
For this, it seems like the map is going to be crucial. I need a dynamic map that I can easily make changes to, such as new buildings and new walls, and traps etc. And also a map that we can play out the battles on.
My group is currently already using owl bear and we are playing over zoom. So it would be possible to just share screen on zoom to allow them to plan out fortifications and the placement of traps etc. And then once the changes have been made, upload the map to owl bear and play out the battles. But I have no idea if there's any kind of map creator already out there for this sort of thing? I've been contemplating just drawing it all from scratch, but I would prefer something with graphics and templates that I can easily move around to create the changes in the maps.
Does anyone know of some tools for this kind of campaign, or have any tips on resources that would be helpful?
I don’t know if you’ve considered Roll20, but it sounds like that might work. It’s got a lot of cool features, but I don’t know how it compares to owlbear. You can use the inbuilt online play feature, or just screen share it.
