Ok, so I am partway through a campaign. Fairly brutal, dm is planning to play it through to level 20, character death is not super unlikely.
I was originally building a grappleficer (artificer:armorer 17) (fighter: Rune knight 3) so that I could have the +25 athletics and make myself a huge creature to grapple whatever the hell i want and be a super tank. Currently at level 4 my build is this:
Variant Human (skill expert: Atheltics) Artificer 2: Armor of magical strength, + 1 ac infusions. Fighter 2: Defense fighting style
After our most recent combat my equipment is: Plate armor (armor of magical strength) shield (+1 infusion) +1 flail Cloak of protection (newly received) Belt of Frost giant strength
so my stats are: 23 str 11 dex 14 con 16 int 14 wis 12 cha 35 hit points 23 ac
One of the other plays recently had their character die and is playing a super tank paladin (oath of redemption) and the third player is a bard 2 (not sure what sub) sorcer 2 (Storm sorcery). Because of this party comp we dont have a crazy amount of dpr. So with my new 23 strength and the paladin going tank by my side, im going to try and respec to a more dps oriented build. However Im not exactly sure how to go about it. Because of backstory im not going to change my subclass choices at 3. However Dm is allowing martial versatility so I can change my fighting style at Fighter 4. There is a corpslayer greatsword I can buy in the town we are in as well. Currently im not sure if it is better to stay with shield and flail, go fighter 4 and swap to duelling fighting style and (shield master feat?). Or to by the greatsword, give the +1 flail to the paladin, lose 3 ac but pick up GWM feat at fighter 4 and not sure what fighting style change, because GWF isnt that super right? Or if there is an even better third option. Any ideas or advice would be super appreciated.
