It seems that both Planescape and the return of Vecna is incoming. I've been giving it some thought as well as rereading the Michael Moorcock Corum Eternal Champion series that spawned Vecna.
I'm guessing that Chris and his gang are going to dip their toes back into the Vecna Lives, Vecna Reborn, and Die Vecna Die module series of 2e. They crossed over with Greyhawk, Spelljammer, and Planescape. In fact, I seem to remember Vecna's attempt to take over everything included invading Sigil and fighting the Lady of Pain herself to a draw.
What do you think? Are they headed down this road?
They did say they had plans for a large series of adventures spanning different worlds. Vecna is as good a final enemy as any for such a thing. Probably better than most. And I bet they’d love to have it at least starting about the same time as the new season of stranger things comes out.
So...who are we talking about here? A 3rd party publisher? I don't remember seeing any WotC plans beyond the set coming out in the autumn?

Whatever happens in Planescape or the way 5e presents Planescape in the release will set the stage for a Vecna product in 2024, a product that sort of sounds like some sort of 5e OneD&D bridge.
I could see Greyhawk being mentioned, maybe even being a location, but it sounds like Sigil will either be pivotal to Vecna's plans or be the foundation of resistance against Vecna, or maybe a little of both.
It's possible WoTC revisited the AD&D 2nd Edition VECNA trilogy modules, but what is more likely is that they used part of them as an inspiration only and designed an entirely new scenario.
Vecna stuff starts at about 4:20 (surely, that is no coincidence in a state with legal weed). But he says, generally, Vecna will be a big villain, and they going to tell a big story that features the multiverse, and it will take us to many different worlds.

Exactly. All I'm saying is that they tend to springboard off of past modules and canon to make the new stuff. Several nods to the older materials.

If they do, I hope they revamp him as an actual boss. The stat block available on D&D Beyond was awful.
