Using the homebrew creator in D&DBeyond, I want to create a magic item that can apply to multiple different weapon types, like how +1 weapons work. For example, in the compendium there is a single item called "Weapon, +1." And the description category says "Weapon (any)". So when players manage their inventory on their character sheets, they can add a +1 weapon of any specific type (i.e. "Dagger, +1" or "Greatsword, +1" etc.).
That's what I'd like to do with a homebrew material that I am introducing in our campaign. Weapons can be made from this material, and I'm trying to avoid creating individual magic items for every kind of weapon. From what I can tell, it doesn't seem like this is possible within the current homebrew tool on D&DBeyond. But I figured I'd ask the community in case there's a way that I am missing.
It's not possible to make such a weapon because the homebrew tools do not interface with the part of the site that handles those types of item entries.
A "Weapon (any)" or "Weapon (any sword)" or any other such variable type magic item only exists in the listings descriptions and the compendium. For the character sheet, that "any" version does not exist and instead each possible valid type of item is set up. This is where the homebrew tools point to; when you make a homebrew item you're making it available at the character sheet level, not the listings or compendium level.
As such, you will have to make each possible variation of the item.
