Why in the world is prismatic wall a Abjuration spell and not Evocation like all the other wall spells?? even Prismatic Spray is Evocation. I'm not seeing anything about this spell that says Abjuration to me.

When death comes for you, make that bastard work for it.
Simple, it's a defensive tool not an offensive one like Prismatic Spray. You can't position the wall the way you can something like Wall of Fire to damage enemies on cast, so they have to choose to attempt to move through it to trigger the damage, otherwise it's just a shield against most possible enemy attacks. Also, to a certain degree the ultimate decision on which school a spell falls under is arbitrary, since the more complex an effect is the easier it is to make a case it could fit multiple schools.
so wall of stone and wall of force should be abjuration too then as they are defensive and not offensive??
the typical effects in the phb 2024
Abjuration: Prevents or reverses harmful effects Conjuration: Transports creatures or objects Divination: Reveals information Enchantment: Influences minds Evocation: Channels energy to create effects that are often destructive Illusion: Deceives the mind or senses Necromancy: Manipulates life and death Transmutation: Transforms creatures or objects
This is fascinating- as a PC that spell is like a puzzle. Might be useful to get clues to each layer with successful arcana or various investigation rolls/spells. Otherwise it's guess work and brute force, which wouldn't be as interesting. I'd have a lot of fun figuring this out in a game, at least with your adjustments. https://routerlogin.uno/

If you think conjuration is about transporting thing, I’d urge you to filter spells by school and see what conjuration gets you.
But, as aceofrogues said, lots of spells can fit multiple schools and it’s not always clear cut. For example cure wounds used to be evocation, and they just moved it to abjuration, and imo, it doesn’t really fit in either very well. So, I think in some cases, the designers also go with a game balance perspective— they can’t give all the direct damage spells to evokers — so sometimes they maybe shoehorn spells into places where you kind of have to squint to see why they might belong there.

first off that list i posted was directly out of the PHB 2024, second imo i think cure wounds should have been put in necromancy. but whatever. i just never understood why they would put all but one of the wizard wall spells in one school. it never made any sense to me, then again a few things never made sense, like why does wall of fire not have a light radius?.
