Hi all, I tried searching these forums, as well as google, and can't seem to find the right answer.
When I click the "short rest" button, there is a check box that says "RECOVER: Reset Maximum HP Changes during this rest" (Second button says to automatically apply healing with dice results - I understand that one, and it's checked by default). But that first button (which is unchecked by default) has me confused. Could someone explain that, and when (or if) it should be used? Resetting Max HP sounds to me more like a "long rest" feature. I must be missing something. Thanks!
Bonus question: I already took my short rest, I spent 5 hit die, which healed me up to my max... When I take my long rest, it says I'll be able to recover 4 hit dice... I assume that will automatically be applied?
There are some monsters that lower your maximum HP (mostly undead) that lower your max HP so you can't regain them even when healed. I think most of those effects end on a long rest, but there might be some that reset during a sort rest.
Also some effects could raise your max HP (I can only think of the Aid spell, but there might be more) - and if that would change your max HP that could reset on a short, too if the effect is worded that way.

I've posted to other forums and your answer appears to be correct! Thanks for your explanation.
