I read this thread by Mingofaust and got great tips. I'd like to make a thread that's more focused to optimizing the fun out of PbP games.
I haven't thought much besides what Mingofaust and co has written, but I'd like to add:
If someone is “passing the ball” to another player (be it player to player, player to DM, or DM to player), WAIT for the interaction to be resolved to do something. The exception is if what you want to do is irrelevant to current situation (and ideally, won’t take the spotlight of the ongoing interaction).
Example: Player A: “Well met, knight-leader of the Black Fist. Are you aware of the Ghost Ship that attacks nearby coast villages?” The DM hasn’t replied yet for 12 hours Player B: “Heh. So you are the knight-leader eh. Got nice weapon here?” I think this makes it hard for the DM to make a natural response.
Player C: “While Alric is talking to knight-leader, I am going to look for someone I know that’s training in the training hall” I think this is alright.
Feel free to add up if you have ideas that works greatly for your group!
