Hello people. My players just sort of out of, no where, got to Sigil. Now, I know the basics of the city(Ring shaped, floating around a mountain, in Outlands, can access any plane from it, etc...), but, I need the juicy details. Basically I am just looking for ideas on how to add depth and atmosphere to the city. I have some of my own, but there is no such thing as too much atmosphere. so, please spit your ideas at me.

A role-player since birth, and one of the lowest forms of life on the planet. Fun!
Google and Wikipedia are your friends for something like this. There's a lot of general lore floating out there, and as the DM you have the final say on what Sigil does or doesn't look like in your campaign, so feel free to drop a Mercer Hammer on any player who tries to get all "umm, actually" on you.

Yah, like I said I do have some ideas of my own, but just wanted to get some other DMs takes on the city, just to sort of compare. But your right the internet usually has good answers, and I have done some research of my own. I may be looking in the wrong places but I have found that a lot of the lore on there is Forgotten Realms lore(Not exactly what I'm looking for).I would like hearing what other people are doing with the city in their homebrew. I do plan on making the city unique to my world.

Also, there will be an official 5e planescape on Oct. 17. May be too late for you, and who knows if it will be well done (spelljammer still leaves a bad taste in mouth, even though I’m enjoying Bigby’s). But it is coming, jus Fyi.
There was also a Sigil like place in an independant comic/early graphic novel. About the same time ( and company I think) as the Jonah Hex comics. The “hero” had been a pit fighter in the slums of “Sigil” and worked his way up and out into being an inter dimensional “problem solver” - wish I could remember the name - this jog anyone’s memory?
Have you checked out the old books? There’s a $15 pdf of the 2e version on drivethrurpg.
Really? I never really thought of looking through material from older additions when doing campaign research! I will look into this.
One of the advantages of a lot of the 2E Planescape books is that most of them are 100% fluff with 0% rules stuff so they're still very easy to use with newer editions.

Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
I also had my players in a large scale campaign be in Sigil for a large majority of it - the 2e books helped so much in fleshing the city out and making it stand out unique from the rest. My players loved the place, and it wound up being where they first got introduced to the BBEG and the major story arc, all from those flavor books.

I know what you're thinking: "In that flurry of blows, did he use all his ki points, or save one?" Well, are ya feeling lucky, punk?
