I'm a relatively new DM running a campaign with very little magic users in my party (the two characters who use magic have shown up twice across the 10+ sessions) and so have decided to add in some magical loot to spice things up and keep that magical element in there.
I've already settled on a ring of healing which is the equivalent of cure wounds with some minor alterations (and only 3 uses per day), but the one I can't settle on is a ring which allows the wearer to use Eldritch Blast. Originally I was going to let it be used as an action in typical cantrip fashion, however am now wondering about it being able to be used as a bonus action but only three times a day much like my healing ring.
I'd love for some more wise and experienced opinions on this!
It might be wiser to have this Ring cast Magic Missile of a level equal to the number of charged spent. It still deals Force Damage and it seems to me that it would seem easier to balance.
Very Rare, Requires Attunement, Begins with 20 Charges, Action, spend 1 Charge per Spell Level of the Magic Missile being cast, regains 1d6+4 Charges at Dawn each Day. You can make it a Rare Item by reducing the Maximum Charges to 10, and the regaining to 1d4+1.

Very Rare indeed. That thing is OP.
Allowing the ring to fire eldritch blast as a bonus action ramps up the damage potential quite a lot. Use it with caution.

I think the eldrich ring would be cool for a magic reliant, non-martial character, like an artificer. But non magic classes have their own bread-and-butter actions. May be best to leave EB for the warlocks.
Other ideas for homebrew magic rings might be Light rings. (Light cantrip, but only cast on itself.) A Hellish Rebuke, or Absorb Elements ring for those reaction spells. Mage Hand and Charm Person are also pretty readily available to many magic users and having a ring with a charge or two of either of those won’t break a game, but would make martial classes feel pretty magic-y.
It's less OP then it seems, Magic Missile has poor level scaling, 55 Maximum possible Damage for 9 Charges (for a 9th level spell that's pathetic). With the recharge not being all nor by rest that means you can only do so every other day, once per day if your lucky, or less if your unlucky. Add to that Attunement requirement and that all Magic Missiles can be blocked by a Shield Spell. If it still seems OP to you, I don't know what I could possibly say to convince you otherwise.

I was making a presumption on the power level that the party is at. If the GM is wanting to create rings with cantrips and lvl 1 spells then I'm going to guess the party is in the lvl 2-5 range. Handing a potential lvl 9 (x2) spell to this group is OP. Two shots averaging 40-50 damage, auto-hit, no save, is a big deal. It is the way you kill a demilich. And Shield is far less common than you would like to believe.
Thanks guys, I really appreciate the feedback, especially am intrigued by the suggestion of other non-combat cantrips that kcbcollier suggested, would certainly spice things up. Will look into those options. Cheers again!

You could limit charges per use to half char lvl rounded up so it matches what a spell caster would have access to.
