I am a first time DM and havnt played much dnd. so ask why i am DMing well we have a christmas tradition of playing DND and my brother in law asked if i would like to try i could. I am curious of how my progress is coming but i cant ask anyone i know as they all will be playing so any feed back would be nice. I would like to also make this last atleast 2hrs of play time.
also another note is players will be level 13 as final encounter contains a CR14 monster.
We find 4-6 travelers in a small town called _______.
They see a crowd gathering in front of a bounty board.
(If they approach the crowd or board they see a flier.)
(If ignored and they go anywhere else they overhear someone talking about the flier.)
(If travelers accept bounty they will see a red and white mystical spiral appears before them.
(If they walk through teleport to _______.)
(If ignored they will get sucked into it.)
(If Bounty ignored have an encounter with elf in ally way . elf forces teleport to ____))
Now the travelers are at ____ they see a large factory on fire holes in the wall like an intense battle had been waged.
( If they head to main gate they find an elf there who says Santa has been taken by large metallic spiders.)
(If asked where is Santa now Elf replies they took him to the throne room.)
(If anything else is asked answer accordingly.)
(If they try to head around the build or go through main gate have First encounter.)
After first encounter and enter building travelers enter a long hallway. The air smells of metal and brimstone. There are 8 doors leading to side rooms.
((Passive Perception 7 )they notice a Santa hat on the ground with a trail of dead elves seemingly set out in an arrow pointing to end of hall.)
(ask what they would like to do.)
(if they explore rooms. Room 1 contains nothing, room 2 has an enemy, room 3 contains bloody teddy bears, room 4 has poison needle trap in doorknob, room 5 wont open not real door(if 18+ to strength check doorknob breaks off and player sees no hole in door and door know is flat on back), room 6 has dead elves, room 7 has a chest with( ), room 8 is filled with broken doors.)
Once they go to end of hall they enter a larger room with 4 directions and has a map on the floor.
(If Investigated (check of 16+) they notice map on floor. Map shows that at the end of North hall way is throne room. West hallway leads to furnace room. East hallway leads to Factory floor.)
(If they head west they enter furnace room and find elves hiding behind the massive furnaces.
(If conversation starts follow basic conversation. If attacked they die.)
(If they head east they find miss Claus.)
(If conversation starts answer all questions also have miss Claus able to heal the party if needed.)
(If attacked initiate Special Encounter.)
(If Room is searched they find Multiple chests one for each player plus one. Plus one chest is trapped.)
(If trapped chest is opened initiate poison dart trap.)
Once they attempt to leave to the north start Second Encounter.
Immediately after Second Encounter Start Third Encounter.
After Third Encounter and if they head to thrown room initiate final encounter.
After Final Encounter monster explodes into a ton of pieces of candy. As the candy rains down travelers hear a distant pounding and some kind of voice. As they look around anticipating a fight they are suddenly jolted awake by loud footsteps and an even louder voices saying boys did you fall asleep playing that weird game again. Get your butts upstairs its Christmas morning after all.
Love the concept. Hate bounty boards as a hook. Since they're already in a dream and the players are already sitting at the table knowing they're doing a Christmas one-shot, don't be afraid to go full railroad and just start them at the factory. Say they were wandering through a blizzard. Say they were following a star. Say they were riding the Polar Express to the North Pole because they'd been hired to escort a very special delivery from the workshop. Save yourself some time on the front end so you can spend more on the good stuff.
I think you need to develop your villain. Who are these invaders? The Mouse King? The Martians? The forces of Halloween? The Final Encounter should certainly have an evil monologue about why they're doing this.
You have a tremendously rich cast of potential NPCs. I'd try to throw in a subplot. Maybe a tin soldier fights alongside the party to rescue his ballerina. Also Mrs. Claus should heal them with cookies and hot chocolate.
My only practical advice is that if you're a first time DM and not a very experienced player, you should play-test this somehow. Maybe scare up a group on the boards here.
Okay i understand what you are saying. I do love the fact of how you said miss Claus should heal them.

As for the villan the only idea i had was they wanted the factory to create a bigger army. My main villan i am using a fire giant dreadnought. So the fire giants hired the drow to invade the factory. The drow used a retriever to capture santa and then invaded the factory.
