So my groups making backup characters just in case since things are getting intense in our campaign atm... anyways I kinda want to make a halforc bloodhunter who makes a living like a vanhellsing archetype slaying monsters and investigating murders with the hope to catch the trail of the thing that killed his family over night. Think kind of a mix between goblin slayer, geralt, and vanhellsing with how I plan to make him, I am thinking order of the mutant since idk ghost and lycan are meh and profane just seems like a watered down warlock lol.
So what I want to know and would like help with
1: how does str blood hunters workout? 2: What are your experiences as a blood hunter? 3: Any recommendations on how I should build with stat placement? These are my stats I rolled which I can place where I want (15, 8, 15, 11, 16, 16) 4: What is more fitting insight, survival, or investigation? Kind of tired of being the face so will be a relief to get out of the limelight since I am always worries I am not giving others a chance to shine. 5: what are some good curses to go with?
1. It works just as well as a Dex Blood Hunter would. It just depends on which one you want to play. You get all of the proficiencies required for either of them, so it’s just a question of which you want to play.
2. I’ve never actually played a Blood Hunter, well I did, but it was a one-shot, and it was the old version. But I had a player who played one, and he enjoyed it well enough.
3. I would put the two sixteens in Intelligence, seeing as the class’ abilities are all Int based, and in either Str or Dex. Depends on what kind of build you want. I would put one of the fifteens in Con. Since you’re doing half-orc, my personal suggestion is that you take one sixteen and put it in Int. Take the other and put it in Str. Put a fifteen in Con, that way, you get an eighteen and two sixteens, not taking into account any ASIs you get. As for the others, that’s up to you.
4. Since Blood Hunter is Int based, I would suggest Investigation. However, Wisdom is generally a better ability that Int. If you have someone like a wizard that already has Int based skills, then I would go the Wisdom route. If not, then Int.
5. I can’t help with that. As I said, I myself am not familiar with the new Blood Hunter. So I can’t help you with this one.
Thanks a lot, seems I may want to go a str focus especially since there is a mutagen that grants you +3 str and at higher levels 4 then 5 while increasing your maximum which is cool so with 18 str I can hit 21 after one potion. Would you recommend going towards heavy armor feat or sticking to medium/light?
On a side note of the wisdom thing, well there is a potion that gives advantage on wisdom ability rolls, another gives advantage on charisma ability rolls, then there is one that makes you immune to grapples while at higher level immune to paralyze. I kinda like the feel of the order of the mutant using chemicals to surpass your limits or to adapt to your weaknesses.
For the armor thing, stick with medium armor for now. As a level 4 feat, I suggest taking Tough, because a Blood Hunter needs HP. Not as much as the previous version, which reduced your Max HP when you used Crimson Rite, but you still need it. If you decide to use a shield, then a 16-18 (depending on your Dex Mod ) AC isn’t bad.
