So my DM allowed me to play this summoner class and wanted some ideas for some good choices on the 1/4 beast/monstrosity/plant choices for both combat and out of combat.
also some ideas for some good CR 1 beasts, monstrosities, plants, undead, and humanoid choices if he starts me off at level 3 instead of 1.
I essentially will get to pick1-2 creatures for my summons the rest i will have to obtain as we play and yes old ones can be swapped out for new ones since my limit will be 6 at max.
i will be able to summon 1 at a time and 2 at a time at level 10. Mechanical it functions similarly to pokemon which me and my DM joke about since all class features are on my summons and not me while being a half caster with mainly support spell options from arcane types l. (Also summons can’t be healed, they must heal from me resting while they are unsummoned)
Personally as someone who has also played the class I would pick something that has a multi attack, allowing you to maximize the trade off of sacrificing your attack so it can attack. I started with a giant badger which I evolved with venomous trait, and the damage was unreal
DMX666 Good idea I may swap from the bounty hunter to sage would make sense for the type of character I am making! Also love wolves so sounds good lol.
Shadinven That sounds like a fun idea, allows for an out of game meme in the group of the honey badger don't give a **** lol. I am on the otherhand working on editing and updating the class on natural critical fixing typos (such as only being able to start with heavy armor without the training in it and updating the spell list) along with my DM with all the change ideas i have to get their okay on things since I don't want to try and power game, I legit just want to fix things like how me and my DM find it odd how the summoner has no access to find familiar which you would think it would lol.

Pick sage. It helps when you remember things and fits the magic user ideology
And then pick warg as a pet. (A warg is basically a big dire wolf)
