Greetings! I am creating a backstory for a Cleric character and wondered if anyone could tell me which Gods/Dieties would be appropriate for the Iceland Dale setting? Im not really sure which list is best to look at with regard to Dieties/Gods...any guidance is most welcomed. Cheers!
I know that Tempus* is one of the main gods that is featured in the original Icewind Dale PC games. You can watch the video here. Ignore the weird buzzing at the beginning, it's an oldie.
So is the setting of Iceland Dale within the "Forgotten Realms"? Perhaps I could reference the Appendix B PHB chart for Dieties of the Forgotten Realms on page 294?
Icewind Dale is just the northwestern region of Faerûn, in the Forgotten Realms setting. The PHB has a basic list of the Forgotten Realms Dieties, The Sword Coast Adventure's Guide has a section on the gods of Faerûn that is a bit more in depth, and there is a wealth of information in various wikis that may also contain outdated/dead dieties, as there has been quite a bit of shake up in that department over the years.
The gods listed in The Savage Frontier include a pretty fair cross section of Faerunian gods.
The Ten Towns gets an entry, but not a list of locally-worshipped gods.
Tempus/Tempos seems obvious, given that a couple of the towns are populated by 'civilized' barbarians, or their descendants. I would probably include the Reghedmen beast totems, too.
FRA1 indicates that fishing is the principal economic activity. FR doesn't have a god of anglers. But it could! Just add a demigod, worshipped in the area, who acts as the patron of fishermen.
An colder and less woodsy, but still benevolent aspect of Mielikki might serve as a goddess of hunters, for the brave and hardy sorts who venture forth in search of game.

Umberlee is very commonly worshipped by fishermen and sailors, albeit completely out of fear of her and what her oceans can do to them.
Good point about Umberlee. As the evil sea-queen, I don't see her as quite the right fit for an inland lake and river region like the Ten Towns area, but it could be otherwise as the DM and players like.
Amaunator, Lathander, and Selune are popular. During the dark, cold winters, people pray to see the sun rise again and look for protection in the darkness.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.

That makes a lot of sense.
Amaunator has made a complete comeback as of 4E FR, IIRC.
Gods of the cold and dark may get lot of propitiatory sacrifices and offerings. In addition to Auril, Shar might be important locally. Long winter nights, as 6thLyranGuard notes.

Check with your DM, of course.

FR gods are very adaptable.
