so im building a Lizard folk mage or warlock type but he makes use of all materials around him to create objects or golems and summons spirits from other worlds to infuse them with. and he also serves the old gods. so could use any ideas on how to build?
My immediate thoughts were a Druid with either the Spores or Shepherd circle. However, you want a mage type. You could try a Conjuration Wizard and use the new Summon Fey and/or Construct spell from Tasha's. Warlock wise, I am kind of stumped on how you could get there.
Conjuration wizard is probably the most fitting.. However keep in mind that cojuration wizards focus more on teleportation than on actual summoning anything in the early to mid game.
BUt yea.. a wizard and then grab summon construct like pelimar suggested... I would also grab spell like fabricate, wall of stone, earth.. You could even flavor catapult as being a spirit moving the object being thrown.
Alternatively you could also go artificer battlesmith.. that'll give you a permanent construct-like companion. Downside is that they're more of a fighter/half caster.. so you wont be casting nearly as many cool spells.
So, I'm building a lizardfolk spellcaster who makes use of all materials around him to create objects or golems and summons spirits from other worlds to infuse them with power. He also serves the old gods. So I could use any ideas on how to build.
The "old gods" thing for druids is just stupid. It makes assumptions of your campaign setting and says that all druids have to be pagans, even though hardly any worlds have actual paganism and it brings some real world monotheism into a polytheistic world. Bard college of creation would work for the summoning. If you have to be a warlock, I would suggest archfey. Thematically, Wizard doesn't make much sense. Bard(If you have Tasha's) and druid(Circle of the sheperd if you have Xanathar's) make sense to me.
I also thought of creatino bard, but then I looked at the spell list. It doesn't seem like bards get many "create stuff" spells... and they don't really get much summoning either. The creation bard's subclass features are obviously appropriate, but the bard itself doesn't work very well.
As for wizard, I feel like he could reflavor it as something different.

Why, exactly, does 'a' druid who serves the Old Gods mean they all must?
My complaint about the PHB is that it doesn't make that clear enough.
Depending on how "in the box" your character has to be I would say that it would be difficult to be a wizard being an intelligence based class. So it's very easy to be a warlock especially as a servant to "old gods."
Having a lizard folk find an old and forgotten relic it Is just as easy as any other race doing so. Or whatever other hijinks it takes to be noticed by your patron.
But if you're looking for a lizard folk caster then I would recommend a druid leaning toward a caster subclass. Especially because lizard folk receive a +1 wisdom as a race trait.
But If you feel like leaning into the crafting aspect of the race then I would lean more toward an artificer. Although that would be as unlikely as making one wizard. Although would be kind of funny to see the lizard folk artillerist walking around with a wooden cannon.
But like with most things in this game talking to the DM is where you need to start and see how much they can (allow/make fit) in their campaign.

I have a weird sense of humor.
I also make maps.(That's a link)
