Hello all! Relatively new dungeon master, I am dropping this in the hands of the first bbeg my characters are about to encounter.
My story involves the Fey, making some tweaks to the story in the Starter Set.
The following is the stat block, I borrowed from some pre written materials and made a few tweaks. It's also hopefully going to encourage more RP without breaking the game
Let me know what you think!
Sword in stone is magical, Binding to a lv 2 or higher fighter, paladin, cleric, barbarian with any good alignment Stone is invulnerable to all damage while the sword is bound to the stone As is, the sword is a plus 1 great mace ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Sword in the Stone " +1 great mace Greatmace 50 gp (Common) 1d8 bludgeoning 10 lb. Armor Piercing, Two-handed
Swords name: Lan'yvil Lan'yvil was once a great fae spirit, summoned and captured to be used in the battle(reference historical text for phandalin) She has been trapped in this stone for 5 centuries, and in the care of this creature for a few decades. While fully aware of their surroundings, the sword cannot communicate until it is wielded by someone worthy. Binding, is a voluntary process for the sword, while the worthy can wield it, the sword is very selective onto whom it is bound -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sword in the Stone stat block ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When the sword is bound, the strength and knowledge of this fae spirit invigorates the wielder, granting +1 to strength and wisdom checks
Lan'yvil(The Sword in The Stone) +1 Longsword You have a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon 1d8 + 1 slashing damage 500 gp (Unique) 4 Lbs
When you hit a fae, fiend or an undead with this magic weapon, that creature takes an extra 1d4 (up to 2d6?) radiant damage.
If the target has 25 hit points or fewer after taking this damage, it must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or be destroyed. On a successful save, the creature becomes frightened of you until the end of your next turn.
While you hold this weapon, it sheds bright light in a 20-foot radius and dim light for an additional 20 feet. This effect is constant
Proficiency with longswords allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
