So one of the things that was a bit disappointing about Reborn is that they never implemented a way for players to be properly undead, as Reborn are just humanoids that don't need to breathe etc.
Now I understand why they did this, because being undead would prevent healing and mess with a bunch of other beneficial effects. But it got me thinking, what if you were only undead for the purpose of enemy abilities? So I'm curious what people think the consequences of the following rule would be:
You no longer need to breathe, drink, eat or sleep, and your creature type is undead for the purpose of enemy effects.
This means that you would still have all the benefits of being humanoid for friendly abilities (healing etc.) but as an undead to enemies you would be resistant to hold person and similar, but vulnerable to being turned, divine smite (or equivalent) etc. Are there any other consequences I'm missing?
Note, I'm not looking to redesign Reborn as such, just wondering about the possibilities of this as a generic rule for a player to be "undead".
Former D&D Beyond Customer of six years: With the axing of piecemeal purchasing, lack of meaningful development, and toxic moderation the site isn't worth paying for anymore. I remain a free user only until my groups are done migrating from DDB, and if necessary D&D, after which I'm done. There are better systems owned by better companies out there.

The main issue would be that most enemies don't have class levels (even the ones based on specific classes) so they don't have things like Turn Undead or Divine Smite. So it really wouldn't make any difference compared to say being a Fey or an Ooze.
