I'm currently trying to homebrew playable races (or variants) corresponding to peoples on the plane of Bablovia, from Magic: the Gathering's set, Unstable, due to it being confirmed James Wyatt only spends time working on Plane Shift articles for settings that receive art books, and main story sets do not receive art books, AND Bablovia is so far the ONE setting that will never be featured in a Standard-legal set.
Starting with the Cyborg creature type. Whether Cyborg is an actual race, or a human subrace similar to the format used for the different provincial humans in Plane Shift: Innistrad, it's not too hard to figure out some basics, from ability score increases (DMG advises to keep in mind the classes you feel should be most commonly chosen for such a race, thus somewhere between STR, DEX, or CHA to encourage Fighter or Paladin, or INT for the sake of Bablovia being known for its "mad science", and CON isn't a terrible choice, though I feel it should be two different scores among those increased by 1, unsure of which two though) to skill/tool proficiency (tinker's tools and/or smith's tools) as well as a variant of Natural Armor from Lizardfolk to represent Cyborg's mostly metal bodies. Also, I'm not against the idea of Cyborg, Animal-Human hybrids, and probably Brainiacs just being A. Human + exclusive feats or B. Some sort of optional add-on to the Human, like a Template or something.
The super tricky part that I really need a brainstorm for, is a Cyborg's comical affinity for things such as replacing their hand(s) with weapon(s) and other things (like metal fly swatters or rubber ducks) attaching small tools and items (like a magnifying glass, or a toaster) to their arm(s) or pauldrons, or even removing their legs and replacing them with a single wheel, tank treads, or an entire mechanical horse or pegasus. My brain's all over the place about how to go about it. Can it be executed properly with a minimal amount of text as a racial trait? Should these prosthetics somehow be items and they contain all the specifics for their use, maybe with any universal rules made into one racial trait? I'd reeeeaaaally appreciate any ideas or suggestions, please and thank you.
