For a particularly tough fight I was knocking around the idea of having a lair where the players needed to use twice the amount of resources to use features or spells. Has anyone tried something like this? Was it miserable for your players?
I’d like to add some stress onto an encounter without putting a bunch of skirmishes or traps in front of the players beforehand. I’m afraid of making it feel like a death March so I was thinking of doing this mostly to switch up my formula, but since I haven’t read about anyone doing it I’m worried it’s because it was thought of and turned out to be a slog. Any thoughts on this or other “lair passives” in your games? Has anyone used them to good effect?
