Hi I'm working on a Tiefling Variant based on Abyssal heritage instead of Infernal and I want players to be able to choose connections with different demons and then assign them different racial traits. So far so good.

My problem is that one of the options needs players to make a further choice and I have no idea how to do that. Lets say they pick a connection with Demon 2. They can then choose a proficiency from a list. Is there a way to layer options like that?

Alternatively, if that is not possible, can I add a second racial trait that only shows up after a choice is made for the first? So after picking Demon 2, a second trait appears with options for proficiencies but isn't shown if there is no selection or they pick Demon 1/Demon 3 etc. I've tried this second method but the second trait shows regardless of the choice of demon, I just can't pick a proficiency. I feel like that might confuse my players and am hoping there's a way to only show the relevant options.
