Watching the videos of the upcoming 2024 PHB, it’s apparent to me that variety within classes is being optimised a lot, meaning that the subclasses could make it easier than ever to have multiple players all playing as the same class in a game.
This makes me think it could be easier than ever to run a campaign where all players are the same class - Druids all from different circles, Bards all from different colleges, etc - specifically it’s given me the idea for a homebrew called ‘Warlocked’ for Warlocks with different patrons, each of them being scouted by different armies who could use their patron’s power to their strategic advantage.
Has anybody tried this kind of thing before? If so, what sort of thing did you try, and how did it go? And do you think you’d be more or less tempted to try this idea using the new PHB’s subclass options?
