Hi Guys, I wanted to troubleshoot an idea. I want to see if there are any big holes in my idea.
I'm not super happy with the Ranger as is and I was thinking of ways to make an alternative. My thoughts are not to outright replace the Ranger if a player likes it that's great, merely to give more options which I believe are balanced based on the previous subclass. My thoughts are make a Ranger subclass of Fighter and use the Eldritch Knight as template, call it "Wyld Knight":
The changes would be the: Spellcasting Ability would be Wis instead of Int Spell List is from the Druid spell list. Remove the requirement for choosing spells from a limit amount of schools.
Every other feature is exactly the same.
I chose Druid instead of Ranger list because Rangers don't have cantrips. This does exclude the character from such high damage spell as Hunter's Mark, I'm not sure how much of a loss/balance this would be.
I don't think removing the spell school requirement is a big deal for a few reasons: 1) That's not how I've always seen people "think" about Druid spells, where Wizard spells are thought of in their school. 2) There are far fewer choice in spells. Wizards have 9 pages of 1st-4th lvl spells while Druids only have 5.
Have I forgotten a key balance issue?
