Question is around Heat Gauge and when I can use it. There is a debate in the group on if I can use the heat dice in the same turn I acquired them, or need to wait until next turn to use it.
At 1st level, you learn how to wield the heat generated by your weapons as a weapon itself. After you make a weapon attack using a firearm, you gain a heat dice, which is a d6. You can store a maximum number of heat dice equal to your Intelligence modifier (minimum of 1), and you lose all stored heat dice if you go one minute without gaining one.
Once per turn, when you hit a creature with a ranged attack using a firearm, you can choose to spend any number of stored heat dice. Roll the spent dice and add them together. The creature takes additional fire damage equal to the total.
Your heat dice change when you reach certain levels in this class. The dice become d8s at 5th level, d10s at 10th level, and d12s at 15th level.
With how this reads, I assumed I could use an attack, gain a heat dice, and then use it on the same turn. With the wording "Once per turn, when you hit a creature with a ranged attack using a firearm, you can choose to spend any number of stored heat dice." it feels like it could be used on the same turn. It reads like this by order
I make an attack
Regardless of hit or not, I gain heat dice
I can then choose to spend heat dice if it hits
To me this makes sense because the class doesn't get extra attack, or cantrips that scale up, so that's how my normal damage should be scaling is with Heat Dice.
The feature specifies that you only gain a heat die after the attack. Note that that's the attack as a whole, not just the attack roll, so it includes the damage roll. You've already done the damage by the time you get the heat die, so you can't add the die to the damage.

I agree with quar1on the order is:
1. Fire Gun & resolve attack (including hit & damage).
2. gain 1 heat die
3. Fire gun again, if hit spend heat dice.
