Game: D&D 5e, LGBTQ+ friendly, no PvP Group type: Online Experience: Beginners welcome Schedule: Games are on Saturdays from 6:30pm BST and last 2.5-3hrs. Roles sought: Player Game style: story-driven, rp-heavy
We're looking to add a 5th player to a homebrew campaign that’s been running for over a year now with the same group of players, and we’re not even remotely close to finishing it yet (lvl 8 at the moment).
Please note that we play with video and need you to have a decent mic and play somewhere with minimal background noise (these are non-negotiable requirements for accessibility reasons). We use a combination of Roll20 and Discord. We’re all in our twenties and are looking for someone over the age of 18.
Content: PG-13 with no sexual content, but occasional swearing is tolerated. I ask every player to fill in a form when they first join which allows them to veto any topics they do not want to see in the game, no questions asked.
Play style: This is a very RP heavy and story focused game. Because of this, we are looking for someone who will be able to show up consistently. This will be especially important if we’re in a story arc that revolves around your character. There will be combat, but the current group have a tendency to find ways to resolve conflict peacefully like convincing a group of doppelgängers to give up their criminal lifestyle and join the theatre, or teaching an orc leader about economics. Are you the kind of player who likes to play an active role in writing the story? Do you want to make history? Do you like coming up with creative out of the box solutions to problems? Or maybe you like to write 50 page backstories and wish your DM actually read it? Well, then this is the game for you. I’ll read it all and you can be sure parts of it will become relevant sooner or later. Do you want to contribute to worldbuilding? You’re welcome to design a city/town that’s somehow relevant to your PC and I’ll make sure you get to visit it. Further, this is a game that rewards RP efforts and creativity. That doesn’t mean you have to do voices or anything like that, but if you make a convincing argument in character or come up with a clever out of the box solution to a problem, your rolls will become easier and with particularly brilliant ideas you might even auto succeed.
Magic and what the PCs are currently up to: The game is set in a world without any kinds of gods. Instead, all magic comes from nature. More specifically, there are powerful magic sources located in different parts of the world. Each of the sources contains a different type of magic. For example, you could have fire magic from the source in the volcanic region or water magic from a source in the Dragon Isles. In order to learn to draw power from a particular source, you need to have stayed near it for a few months or even years when you first learned to use it. Consequently, most magic users only know one type of magic.
Over the last few months, strange portals have been appearing all over the world. Portals between your world and a mysterious planet covered in red sand, with shiny black rocks poking out like islands in a sea beneath the green sky and its two suns. Every time one of these portals appears, someone (or something) from your world gets transported to the other world and in their place, a giant, deadly, insect-like creature emerges from the portal. Confused and panicked, these creatures are vicious and incredibly hard to kill for the average person. Only two people have been known to ever return from this other world.
You will be joining a group of adventurers, the Dragon Brigade, who have recently discovered that someone named Ilion Arcgladur is travelling the world and destroying the magic sources. And right now, they know he’s after the nature magic source - the source the party’s cleric gets his power from! They are now looking for a fast way South to reach the magic source before Arcgladur and stop him and his evil plans!
To apply, please answer the following questions:
1) What do you like about D&D? 2) Tell me about your character and how they fit into the world. Why would they want to join the Dragon Brigade? 3) What do you think is cool in the game? Tell me about a memorable moment in a game you were in? 4) What are your expectations for the campaign? 5) What are your expectations from the other players? 6) How much experience do you have?
The world: Dunbar, Draydon Hold and Dorul are the three largest human cities, ruled by three queen sisters. Dunbar is the largest and contains the only magic academy in the area, funded by queen Parthia and run by the Crown's Mages. Dorul has a strict magic ban and they'll confiscate any magical objects passing through the city gates.
The lands in this area are flat and fertile, mostly consisting of fields and pastures. To the north the land becomes more hilly, but still a great and safe place to live (think Hobbiton). Gnomes and halflings live in this hilly area, but they also get along reasonably well with humans as they are not perceived as a threat and it is not uncommon to encounter them in human regions. In some places, they provide food and entertainment for human settlements and in turn benefit from protection. As we move further north, the lands become more and unpredictable, wild and cold. Most people will have heard stories of giants and dragons up north in the Frosty Mountains, but not many venture there.
Down south lie the Towering Terras, a steep, alpine mountain range inhabited by dwarves in the western half and orcs in the east. There is much ongoing conflict between the two races over the central territories. The dwarves' main trade is in glass, making them highly valuable to humans. Due to their dislike for one another, they do not mix much except for when it comes to trading. Their lands are separated by the Woods of Arach, a dark and dangerous forest ruled by a wild colony of giant spiders who over the last couple of years have started expanding their territories and venturing past the boundaries of the forest and attacking travellers and small villages. Any journeys between the dwarven realm and the human kingdoms need to be carefully planned and it would be unwise to travel alone.
To the east we have the Banduk Forest. It too is dark and gloomy, however, partly thanks to its elven inhabitants, it tends to be a much safer and more welcoming place. Especially around the edges. Filenor, Bruin and Twig's End are some elven towns. Some of the most exceptional blacksmiths and armourers live in Filenor.
Much like the dwarves, the elves have to deal with constant orc raids from the east, but recently they've also been having problems with the spiders of Arach. Living in constant fear, the resentment towards humans grows ever stronger, for it is because of humans that the elves have had to retreat to these deeper, more hostile parts of the land. This is the case even more so for the elves in the north-east (the forest around Erith) who were forced to completely abandon their homelands and are now building an army to reclaim their lands.
Finally, if you have any questions, do not hesitate to PM me.
Hi! I'd love to join you guys, my discord is fox_ish#1947 .
1) What do you like about D&D? Definitely the immersion, I love getting lost exploring a world and the story. Having a fun time, being part of a cool narrative with the party is something I always look forward to.
2) Tell me about your character and how they fit into the world. Why would they want to join the Dragon Brigade? I don't have a fixed character idea, I usually try to fill whatever need there is in the party. I'd like to try out Bard, Druid, Fighter or Monk if possible but I'm open to anything really. Character motivations would probably be leaning towards looking for a sense of purpose or a reason to leave their current situation and do something they've always dreamed of doing.
3) What do you think is cool in the game? Tell me about a memorable moment in a game you were in? I think the moments that get you emotionally invested are the coolest. Recently I experinced my first party member death and, it really struck me, not just the extent of my sense of loss for a character we played together with for so many hours but also the reactions of the rest of the party. It helped me understand just how much playing with them had come to mean to me.
4) What are your expectations for the campaign? I'd love to explore the world setting and history, get into compelling adventures and get out of trouble with interesting and sometimes wacky ideas.
5) What are your expectations from the other players? To be inclusive, supportive and to have fun playing together.
6) How much experience do you have? I've played about 60 hours across a campaign and several one-shots on FoundryVTT.
Just wanted to ask if you're using Roll20 or Foundry to play (incase I need to learn it beforehand)
