"Finally! You have found the entrance to the Dungeon of the Dying Day. And not too soon. It is six hours until the millennium changes at midnight. Six hours of time to stop the Cult of the Dying Day before they are able to open the gate to the Abyss and allow unstoppable demons to enter this world. Six hours…
You and your group start descending narrow stairs in the dark quickly. You have been working together as a group of adventuring mercenaries for a long time and trust each other very well. But this time the mission is different: not only have you been hired for the task by the king, who has promised you a hefty reward and his gratitude, but also you get to keep whatever treasure you find from the dungeon. This is much needed since your group has a debt of 10 000 gold pieces to a patron who has been funding your adventures. These things aside there is another, even stronger motivator: your loved ones who live in the city nearby. If the Demon Lords are not stopped from entering this world, all will be gone.
You finally come to the end of the stairs and you can now see torch light ahead of you. The corridor widens. You have reached the Dungeon of the Dying Day. Six hours before the world ends."
Game: D&D 5e. Dungeon of the Dying Day is a dungeon crawl designed and built by myself. More about it below.
Group type: Online. We will use D&D Beyond (character creation), Discord (voice channel, no video needed) and Foundry VTT (this is where the actual game happens). You need a computer/laptop to join the game.
Experience: Your level of experience playing D&D is not so important, you can join as a newcomer. Also I want to underline that I run easy-English games. English doesn't need to be your first language for you to feel comfortable in my games. It's not my first language either :)
Location/Timezone: UTC+3. You can join the game from any time zone.
Schedule: The game is about 10 hours in real time. The game will be played on Sundays starting 2nd of October. The game will start at 17:00/5pm and one session will be about three hours. This can be negotiated among the players.
Roles sought: I am looking for 4 players. You can come as a group or as individuals. You can choose your character’s class freely, but if you want to have diversity in the group I will tell you what classes other players have chosen.
Game style: The focus of the game will be mainly on combat and adventuring. More about this below but I have aimed to build an entertaining game. My goal is that you are having fun. However, it is not a walk in the park and a character death is a real possibility.
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING TO GET A GOOD IDEA OF THE GAME AND TO AVOID MISUNDERSTANDINGS.
The Dungeon of the Dying Day is in real time around 10 hour dungeon crawl designed by me. It is made for a party of 4-5 5th level characters.
In this adventure the characters are working together with a time limit to stop a cult from opening a portal to the Abyss and allowing Demon Lords to enter the material plane.
The adventure has clear goals for the players and is meant to be an entertaining experience with a sense of urgency. The focus of the game will be mainly on combat and adventuring. The characters can also use their social skills with the NPCs they encounter, but be advised that due to the nature of the game, there isn't going to be room for the players to explore their own character's story. Because of this, character backstory and alignment are totally optional choices and in practice, will not play any role in the game.
I run my game with the idea of easy English, so even if English is not your first language, it is okay. I am from Finland and English is not my first language so even I might sometimes need clarification if you surprise me with a sophisticated word choice.
I follow Rules As Written, however, few exceptions:
No player vs. player.
Hit points are fixed, no dice rolling.
Critical hit is calculated in the following way: maximum value of the damage die + damage die rolled + ability modifier + any other bonus that might be affecting.
Spell Silvery Barbs is banned.
Drinking a potion can be done as a bonus action.
Same ability check can be rolled maximum of twice, if at least two party members are present (like for example when trying to intimidate someone). The check can be rolled individually or assisted (help action providing advantage for the other player).
Flanking doesn't give any benefit.
I am also a fan of Rule Of Cool. I want to reward the players for good roleplaying and creative thinking. My philosophy is to say "yes". However, not everything can be accepted even in a fantasy game. We want to create a game that is cool, not a game that is meaningless.
I use Discord, D&D Beyond and FoundryVTT (similar to Roll20) to run my game. In FoundryVTT I use modules to automate the game. You don't need to have anything else but a working computer/laptop, a good internet connection and Discord on your computer to get started with me. Note that I am also recording some of my sessions and by attending my game you give your consent for me to use the material in any and every way. (This might mean, for example, publishing footage on the internet to promote my games.)
First we are going to book a half an hour session, just you and me, to get you situated for the game. This will be done using Discord and it will serve as session zero. I will check with you that you have access to D&D Beyond character creation and Foundry through Forge (server hosting service) and I will give you instructions for character creation. If all this is familiar to you, we should be done quite quickly. If not, we can book a longer session and see together that everything is clear. Part of my job as the DM is to help you with all this as well.
You have all Player's Handbook, Elemental Evil, Tasha's Cauldron of Everything and Xanathar's Guide to Everything races and classes in use and the books are shared with you in D&D Beyond. Multiclassing is allowed. You can also choose any feat from these books if you decide to take a feat at 4th level. Note that in this adventure there are no firearms.
If you prefer not to create your own character, you can also choose one of my pre-generated characters. The options are a human cleric, a dwarf fighter, a gnome wizard and an elf rogue. If you are interested in a pre-generated character, mention it during session zero and I'll give you the full character sheet.
I will give you all the information you need for your character creation, but just as a heads up: For ability scores I use my own system. You have 72 points that you can freely put to your ability scores, but no ability score can be above 16 nor below 7 before the racial bonuses. For example, an elf can put their dexterity score to be 16 and the total will be 18 because of the racial bonus.
If you are interested in joining the game, send me a message in Discord and we can book the session zero.
We have a nice and friendly group of three players looking for one more adventurer. There is a rogue, a hunter and an artificer. Perhaps a damage sponge/front liner would be a good addition but really any class would be just great!
Hi, I would love to join you. I’m new, and would like to learn about DnD. I have had many attempts but none worked bc of the time in but now it should. Is UTC+3 in Europe? Im an Ranged (crossbow) green acid dragonborne DC:LMA0#7539
Interested if this is still open. I'm in the UK and ok with the time and everything else seems straightforward. Happy to partake in the half hour discussion to get to know each other and get everything sorted. Get back in touch if you're still looking to fill the gap or if one opens and we can exchange discord info 😃
