It's a crazy world we live in. (In which we live?)
There hasn’t been a king on the throne for 20 years and the world is still recovering from the war that almost destroyed everything. Travel between cities has slowly recovered, but the roads are still dangerous. Monsters in the countryside have multiplied and roaming bandit clans have been known to attack trade caravans on the unguarded roads. The once-united continent is now calling for a new monarch to restore peace, but there are many who seek the vacant throne.
Our story starts in a small town that isn’t even on most maps. You’ve lived there for the last few years (or all your life if you prefer) and things have become peaceful, but repetitive. The old man that runs the general store in town is making a supply run and his usual security escort, a group of dwarves, have returned to their homeland.
It’s a long way to go, but the old man has offered 40% of the value of the cargo to be shared amongst you and the others who took the job. He described the cargo as “mostly just supplies” and gave you an extra 5gp to not press him on the specifics.
He’s traveled on the same route for years and there hasn’t been word about a bandit attack for months, so he expects an uneventful journey.
It’s been a while since you left this tiny town (or maybe it’s the first time) and this is a rare chance to earn some real gold, so you took the job. Whatever you want to do with your life, your share of the profits will make it a lot more manageable.
This will surely be a by-the-numbers trip to the city with no surprises whatsoever!
And the length of the campaign is up to the players. The first quest line went around 6 sessions with my previous groups. We can either end the story there or you can explore the world sandbox-style. If the group wants a more railroaded setup I have 2+ years of material to go through (tested by two very different groups), but I prefer to run a game where the plot takes on a unique shape through character backstories.
All levels of experience are welcome. All I ask is you treat your fellow party members with respect.
My short resume: I was an English major specializing in fiction... did a few years of grad school... played video games... basically as long as I've been able to read... studied improv at Second City... got introduced to the game through various D&D podcasts. As a DM I focus on group storytelling, so if you put time into your backstory I'll make an effort to include aspects of it it in the campaign)

It'll be $5 a session. The price will NOT go up.
