“Why wouldn’t you want to throw your lot in with this band of misfits?”
Game: D&D 5e Group type: Online Asynchronus Text-based Experience: Looking for players experienced in roleplay, can be new to D&D Location/Timezone: DM is EST but all time zones welcome since it's asynchronous! Schedule: Hoping for someone who can be active at minimum a few times a week Roles sought: 1-2 players Game style: roleplay-heavy, story-first game, infrequent but epic combat
Hi there!
I'm looking to add one or two more players to my ongoing Curse of Strahd campaign. This game is entirely asynchronous and text-based over Discord meaning there are no set session times. You post when you’re able, and if life happens, no worries! We'll catch you up when you're back. It’s a great format for people with busy or unpredictable schedules who still want to play D&D. The game has been running for a while, but the story is far from over—and we're excited to welcome someone new into the fold.
About the Game
This is a roleplay-heavy, story-first game. I started it because I wanted something creative and interactive, but I couldn’t commit to running a traditional weekly session. The result has been really special: players explore different threads in parallel, dive deep into character, and help build a vivid, atmospheric Barovia together.
Combat is rare. We've had only five encounters so far—and two were guest-DMed by Rodion’s player. I don't run random skirmishes. When combat happens, I work to make it cinematic, emotional, and high-stakes. That said, this isn't the best game for someone who lives for tactical combat or crunchy mechanics. But if you’re here for tension, mood, and character-driven drama, this may be the perfect table.
This is still Curse of Strahd, so the tone leans dark. I use a detailed content form to tailor and safeguard the experience, but players should expect horror, tragedy, and moral complexity—alongside moments of tenderness, humor, and hope. There's space here for friendship and found family, even in the bleakest places.
Current Party
Arkus Sullivan – A fallen aasimar rune knight fleeing his tyrant father. His soul is currently trapped in a suit of armor.
Mei Melshimber – A half-elf wizard from Vallaki, hunting for a cure to save her dying sister.
Dram Hardtooth – An orc thief on a mission to reclaim his stolen tribal greataxe he was framed and outcast for stealing.
Jadwiga – A dhampir bard struggling against a dark, internal hunger.
Grove – A silent fighter/druid scarred by loss and servitude to a hag.
Rodion Skulnik – A former warlock now likely sorcerer who broke free from his corrupt patron with the party’s help. Now unbound, he searches for a new path—and a way to heal from the family he lost.
Elowyn Wildstepp – A human bloodhunter wrestling with her lycanthropy and identity.
You! As you can see, we’re in particular need of a dedicated healer (Strahd seems determined to ensure we never have one). It’s not mandatory, by any means but if you’re excited about a cleric, paladin, or similar support character, that’s a big plus.
[Small spoilers for the module below!!]
The party just had dinner with Strahd (he's actually a wonderful host!), saved the winery, and is about to head toward Krezk. No major Vallaki events have occurred yet.
Who I’m Looking For
You’re 18+ and available evenings/weekends (EST)
You have some experience with play-by-post or RP-heavy games
You enjoy creating characters with strong motivations, personality, and emotional depth
You’re excited to integrate your character into an ongoing story and connect with the party
You can post a few times a week (more is great, but life comes first!)
You’re collaborative, communicative, and kind
You’re not looking to play a duplicate of an existing class (see party list)
We’ll create a custom side quest to weave your character into the story and party. If you already have a character you’re excited about, amazing! I can’t wait to hear about them! But if you’re not sure what to play, I’d be more than happy to offer ideas or help you brainstorm something that fits well with the party and story. I love bouncing around concepts and finding that spark.
If you’re open to suggestion, here’s one that would fit beautifully with the party’s next arc:
[Krezk Spoiler Warning]
You were called to Barovia by Lathander, answering a divine vision to help a holy man restore the Abbey of Saint Markovia. You made it through the mists, entered the snowy village of Krezk, and met a radiant figure known only as The Abbot. At first, he seemed perfect—wise, kind, devoted. You served without question, guarding the Abbey and assisting in its work. But over time, something shifted. His mercy turned precise. Cold. Cruel. You learned of the bride he stitched for Strahd. Of salvation through perfection. And you began to wonder—was this truly Lathander’s will, or something else entirely?
How to Apply
Please reply here with:
About you! Your experience, your availability, what excites you about this game and group.
Your character concept – name, race, class (level 6), and backstory.
Any personal side quest ideas
(Optional but recommended) A response to the following writing exercise (not canon), in third person from your character’s POV:
Your character dreams of standing in a dark, endless void. A figure emerges from the shadows, their voice smooth and knowing, offering your character their heart's deepest desire. The figure seems to know exactly what they want—perhaps more than they do.
What does the figure look like? What do they offer? How does your character respond?
The personal side quest is something I'm trying out as a natural way to get your character involved with the group and the story, without dropping them right into a major plot moment. A small problem or mystery your character stumbles on, and then they come to the party for help.
Just some examples:
A rat stole a cherished item and ran into a spooky old house. Can the party help retrieve it?, You’ve received a cryptic message or vision that needs investigation., Your character needs guidance to Krezk for whatever reason
We’ve got a warm, creative, and committed group here—and I want any new players to feel just as welcome and integral to the story. If you’re drawn to emotional storytelling, character-driven horror, and collaborative worldbuilding, I’d love to hear from you. 🖤
Hey! I'm Bat, I've been playing DND for around 6 years having actually started with PBP before pivoting over to VC and set sessions. Typically I'd not be interested in a PBP group, as many that I joined fizzled out pretty quickly after either from the DM ghosting, or multiple players just not being able to find time due to IRL issues. Though what drew my eye to this posting, is how High-Effort and Quality it was. This seems like a group that will actually last!
I don't really have a character concept in mind off the top of my head currently, however I do like the idea of leaning more into the support role to help fill out the party roster, along-side having the roleplay opportunity of being a new comer amongst this ban of misfits. So far at least for what I might want to play with in regards to class, I'm leaning more towards an Alchemist Artificer or Life Cleric, if I were to do the Life Cleric I'd probably work with the prompt you posted. Though I'd still need some time to look throughout the various subclasses to settle on a full vision, but I'd love to bounce ideas with you if accepted.
Though I have some inkling of what I'd like to do
For the cleric, I think I'd like to do something where working with the Abbot left them changed in some way, be it tainting their connection with their god. [Be it Lathander or another], or their very self having been warped throughout their stay in Barovia, but in what way I haven't really figured out.
The Alchemist concept however is still up in the air, I really like the vibe of somebody who has to rely on herbalism and foraging, their healing and medicine not coming via magic but rather through desperate survivalism. Someone who's way out of their depth and has only managed to stay kicking through a mixture of luck and desperation. But so far it's mostly a vibe rather than a complete concept.
For side-quests for both
I can see for the cleric concept, them coming to the party for help in regards to the Abbot, and for the Artificer perhaps they've found themselves in a bind they can't simply run-away from or weasel out of and in a desperate attempt for survival reaches out to the first people he's come across. Sorry if these are rather bare bones, I've never been good at designing characters on the spot and typically work best whenever I'm bouncing character ideas off of the DM.
I don't have a character fully set in mind yet, but I figured you would still appreciate having a response to your roleplay prompt. It's been awhile since I last text roleplayed and I typically try to mirror those that I'm roleplaying with but I do hope this is satisfactory. Prompt The darkened silhouette emerged from the shadows, a cruel sneer plastered across their face. “I know what it is that you want mortal, more-so than even yourself” The dark beings appearance left Raphael frightened, their visage twisted and deformed, as if it took the form of a human using only a description of what a human looked like. “I see it in your soul, the ever wanting desire for attention, love, respect, and most of all fame. All of it can be yours for a small price.” As its form drew closer, Raphael attempted to step back only to find himself paralyzed, unable to move nor take his gaze off of the approaching monstrosity. It’s twisted visage growing closer by the second. “Fear not, I mean you no harm. Why, how would you be able to reap the benefits of this offer if I were to harm you. No, I simply ask for another. Your darling spouse, it’d be but a trivial matter to find a new one in your coming fame.” The trivialness of this offer sent chills down Raphael’s spine. What would this demented creature want with her? Why would it even dare make such a cruel offer. “You need not reply now mortal, the seed has been planted, the offer made. I will return, on another night like this, and like all the rest you’ll accept. I’ll be seeing you soon” Raphael stood their frozen, as he watched the encroaching shadows in this dream-like reality first envelop the entity, and then spread to himself. The cruel darkness chilled him to the bone as it slowly crawled up his body eventually enveloping himself whole. Only for him to awaken in his bed, feeling a cold chill throughout his body in spite of the warm fireplace in his room.
