System: D&D 5E 2024 Hexcrawl Exp/Point Buy Time: Saturdays @ 12:00 PM EST Weekly Platform: Discord + AboveVTT Current Party: Fighter/Warlock, Warlock, Wizard Looking for 1-2 players
This campaign blends classic fantasy with sci-fi elements and occasional touches of eldritch horror. Players should expect a living, dangerous world where exploration is thrilling—but survival is never guaranteed.
🛑 Core Campaign Mechanics & Structure:
High Risk / High Reward: The farther the party travels from established safe zones (settlements, villages, outposts), the more experience they will earn—but encounter rates and danger will rise significantly.
Resource Management Focus: Players are expected to manage resources like spell slots, gold, equipment, and time. Long rests can only be taken at established safe locations. No exceptions. Short rests in the wild are still possible but come with risks.
Survival Elements (Streamlined): While survival mechanics (food, water, travel logistics) are present, they will generally be glossed over unless circumstances make them narratively or mechanically relevant.
⚔️ Roleplay vs. Combat Balance:
The intended balance is 60% Roleplay / 40% Combat.
That said, taking greater risks and traveling deeper into hostile territory will naturally shift sessions toward heavier combat and survival scenarios.
Intelligent planning, scouting, and diplomacy are encouraged—and may help you avoid unnecessary danger.
☠️ Character Death is Possible:
This is not a meat grinder, but it is a dangerous world.
Poor planning, reckless behavior, or pushing too far without preparing can (and may) result in character death.
Anyone joining this campaign should be comfortable with meaningful consequences, including death, capture, corruption, or mutation—though always in service of the story.
Campaign Significant Events Summary *I know it's a lot but let's folks know exactly what to expect and saves us time catching them up*
The party braved the treacherous Evermist, quickly learning firsthand how perilous the journey truly was.
They were captured by soldiers of a long-dead empire—one that had fallen centuries ago—who commanded a colossal purple worm. Each party member had a piece of their left ear cut off. The party’s wizard later deduced this was likely done to scry on them.
Upon returning to the only known settlement within the Whisperwilds, they were met with suspicion. Hobgoblins, once the ruling race of the fallen empire, had long since been reduced to slavery, and few believed the party’s claims.
To prove their story, they were sent out with a group of convicted criminals and their assigned handler—most inhabitants of the Whisperwilds are criminals serving sentences. However, their entire escort party was slaughtered. The culprit: a crazed hobgoblin who had killed the handler and fled.
The party pursued him deep into the jungle, eventually reaching a vast clearing. Looking skyward, they saw colossal machines suspended in the sky, each protected by shimmering purple force fields.
Suddenly, the ground began to tremble with increasing intensity. Every living creature on the continent was encased in a protective bubble. In a moment of awe and terror, the entire landscape—mountains, trees, hills, and rivers—was obliterated, then reassembled in an entirely different configuration.
Still reeling from the event, the party returned to the settlement, fearing it may have been destroyed. Miraculously, it remained intact. They soon learned that long-promised supplies and reinforcements were finally en route to the intentionally under-resourced expedition.
While searching for a clean water source, the party was ambushed by a massive insect. It paralyzed the Wizard and implanted eggs inside his body.
Racing against time, they set off in the direction of the settlement. On the way, they encountered a mysterious figure whose sole objective was to abduct the Wizard.
After a desperate pursuit, they found the kidnapper—transformed into a solid gold statue. Tracks led away from the gilded corpse, and the party followed them.
They eventually found the Wizard alive, but in terrible condition. The wizard recounts the horrors that he had experienced. Someone—or something—had tampered with the eggs inside him. Moments later, the eggs hatched violently. A writhing mass of flesh burst from the Wizard’s abdomen and rapidly grew into a perfect replica of him.
Reunited, the party set off toward the golden statue—only to find it shifting in color as the ground beneath them began to increasingly shake on the way there. The tremors intensified. Suddenly, the crazed hobgoblin reappeared, urgently warning them to step away from the statue.
After moving 200 feet away, without explanation, the hobgoblin chanted an incantation. Suddenly, the statue swelled in size and changed color completely.
A moment later, the massive purple worm erupted from the earth and swallowed the statue whole.
Then, with startling swiftness, the hobgoblin turned to the warlock and drove a fist into his gut. The blow forced the warlock to vomit up a crystal—one he had witness the night before being forced down his throat during what he believed was a hallucination.
As soon as it hit the air, the crystal shot toward the worm, homing in on the swallowed statue. Moments after piercing the worm’s hide, a tremendous explosion tore through the creature’s body—scattering flesh, scales, armor, weapons, and limbs in all directions.
The worm, now gaping with a massive wound, let out a final screech and burrowed frantically back into the earth, vanishing into the depths from which it came.
