I started a private D&D 5e (2024) Discord almost exactly a month ago because I missed something specific ... the feeling of walking into a local game store, seeing familiar faces, and grabbing a seat when a table opens. Not a brand. Not a content pipeline. Just a good place to play D&D with people who are a good hang, strategic thinkers and/or the kind of chaos goblins that create situations that will inevitable require strategic solutions to keep the rest of us alive.
It’s called The Storyteller’s Lounge.
Everything runs in a shared version of the Forgotten Realms. Characters carry over between games. XP, gold, and decisions persist. If something happens at your table, the world remembers it. We log sessions so progress stays clean and fair. We do one-shots. We are beginning to do campaigns. It is really whatever the community makes of it. Our DMs have a lot of room to just do their own thing ... while also adhering to some standardization to make the world work as a whole for all players and their respective journeys here.
Most games are voice-based. We also run asynchronous play-by-post (avrae games) for people who prefer a slower pace or just want something different (or just need to get a little DND fix while on a short break from work lol). You can join when you’re free. You can also run games if you want to DM. No long-term obligation required.
How the games feel Fast-moving, player-driven sessions built around the party that shows up. Combat is tactical and fair. Roleplay is encouraged. Above table meta gaming is very discouraged. Enemies are competent. Some of the more intelligent ones, who have seen how frequently adventurers tend to get up, will even gang up to curb stomp fallen heroes. Choices matter. We don’t let the rules get in the way of the game, but we do follow them and help each other learn them. If something comes up at the table, the DM makes the call and the game moves on. DM fiat reigns supreme.
Characters Everyone starts at level 1. No imports. Some of you may have forgotten the thrill of Level 1 life with no magic items ... every early game feels like a potential TPK =)
You can build with standard point buy, or you can take the Gamble Roll. I'm going to tell you now ... the Gamble Roll is extremely popular on this server.
Gamble roll allows you to !randchar for a set of stats. You may reroll once for a second, new set of stats if you do not like the firs. If you reroll, the second result is final. Everyone starts with one unlocked rolled character. You can make as many point buy characters as you like. Alternative gambled characters are unlocked as you level up the first one.
It’s not about optimization. It’s about variety. Sometimes you roll high. Sometimes you don’t. We lean in and have fun with the strengths and imperfections. It makes for much more interesting RP. Just ask our Barbarian that rolled a 4 Intelligence. Literally one of my favorite players/characters to have in my games.
To keep it grounded, rolled characters use a simple slot system:
You start with one rolled character slot
When a rolled character reaches level 5, you unlock another
If a rolled character dies before level 5, you earn your next roll back by leveling a point-buy character to 5
Optional depth We support crafting, Bastions, and monster hunting, including everything from Heliana’s Guide to Monster Hunting. None of it is required. It’s there if you want more texture in the world.
Where we’re at We’re about a month in. 170+ members. Over 70 games run so far. Multiple games happening every day. I’m an American expat in Saudi Arabia (GMT+3), but players and DMs are spread across time zones. A lot of Americans, Europeans, and growing presences in many other regions (English is default language).
DMing here We actively encourage players to DM if they want to try it. Many people bounce between being a player and a DM (this is how we are able to provide so many games). We have first-time DMs and very experienced DMs, and you’ll often see veteran DMs sitting at tables specifically to help newer DMs improve.
There’s no application to DM. If you want to run a game, you just ask.
Every DM uses the same game listing process to advertise sessions. The server has a ping role system, so you can choose what kinds of games you want notifications for and ignore the rest.
There’s no cost to play.
If you’re looking for a D&D space that feels human, consistent, and easy to drop into, you’re welcome to join.
hi, I was wondering if I can join your campaign I’m a cleric with a pretty ordinary game sheet, I’d love to play on your campaign. I am a little new to DND though
Hey, seems cool and it’s been a hot minute since I was in one of these mega servers. Are there any campaigns running currently or it it more like a bunch of westmarchy one shots currently? I’m just a bro who is trying to hop back into a campaign after 6!months of basically only dming lol

I wouldn't call it mega. Like a hundred people. And, yeah, there are some campaigns. I run one every Wednesday. Other DMs also do campaigns.
Are there perhaps any games on Tuesday nights? Or maybe Thursday or Friday nights too? Est time that is
