At its core, the Heart of Winter campaign is a storyline about battling dangerous outlaws and fearsome monsters within a rugged wilderness with only a handful of remote villages to offer shelter and security. The Heart of Winter campaign is a story about Player Characters who are dedicated to opposing threats, to the fragile hold that civilization has managed to gain within Icewind Dale while trying to uncover secrets about their past. The Player Characters belongs to a ancient order northman warriors known as the Wolves of Volunstag who openly hunt both monsters and men, which indirectly supports this theme. It is this faction that provide the Player Character with goals that will spawn adventures, which allow them to interact with a diverse number of NPCs of every profession and alignment.
Players can expect to frequently travel across open wilderness while attempting to use survival skills to overcome adversities such as; the dealing with the weather, braving a rugged environment, and facing many unique or well established monsters. Players will also interact with a wide variety of random and established NPCs. There will be dungeons =but it is not considered a focus of the campaign.
Icewind Dale is a home brew game that draws from many sources of inspiration such as; The Witcher, Skyrim and the Forgotten Realms but yet is still its own world based on those familiar themes. The Icewind Dale campaign has been a writing project that has taken three years to develop with unique encounter systems, hundreds of NPCs and a deep established lore.
I am looking for three players (experience is not a prerequisite) who enjoy roleplay, character development and epic combat that is more than just die rolls. If rampant plagiarism does not bother you and you wish to experience something completely new, then this is the campaign for you.
Scheduling will be open but will likely be 3 to 4 hours each week on Fri or Sat. Those who already have a character in mind should consider that Humans, Half-Orcs or Half-Elves would be a easy fit while elves, halflings or dwarves would need a well developed backstory in order to fit into the campaign. The starting level will be 2nd. I am a veteran DM who has been writing and running roleplay games since 1998. Experience is not a requirement. Only a willingness to learn about my world. Develop your character history with me and a willingness to roleplay. Minchkins and Hack N' Slashers will not find this game a enjoyable experience.
My fiance and I are looking for a game! Im a new DM, and we want to play as PCs together. I am excited for a roleplay environment where combat is used sparingly (I like combat as well). My fiance is less about the vocal RP, but loves to collect info and avoid conflicts as possible.
I like to fill party roles and have several character ideas. One of our top ideas is for her to play a druid who saves me from the wilderness. I have no talents, so I make a pact with the fey to become a warlock who can protect/impress her, charming my way to power.
I would love to take a look at this and see if we are a good fit together. I am looking for a place to engage in immersive role play and thoughtful interactions. I am completely open to joint character development and fulfilling most any role: melee, ranged, caster or healer. I am a long time player and DM of multiple systems as well as an improvisor and actor.
Hello there Thonwill! I'm going to give you the standard questionnaire but I think you may already be a good fit. Will not be able to get back to you for a bit. I am getting ready to go to work and will not be able to respond until tomorrow afternoon. Thanks for your interest.
I will be using discord to communicate. Is that alright with you? This campaign has allot of artwork, NPC portraits and my own 3d miniature map program, color magical item cards etc. So there will also be alot of screen share or sharing of pics. the schedule with be between 3 pm and 7 pm rotating every Fri and Sat.
How long have you played RPGs? And what system are you the most familiar with? (there is no wrong answer. This just lets me know what I am working with)
In order best how you will be able to access any information I share with you, do you have any form of Microsoft word? There is a Player’s Guide to my world but it is in that format. If not no problem. We can work around it.
Have you already chosen a character? If so would you be willing to work with me on his history in order to tailor him into the game world and story? If you have not chosen a character yet, then I would strongly suggest waiting to read the campaign information before you do.
What are you best times for playing? I am hoping to run a weekly game that will rotate between every other Fri and Sat for about 3 to 4 hours per session (possibly longer if time and players are willing). The days rotate due to my work schedule which is planned out a year in advance.
This campaign will literally be tailored around your characters backstory while also placing unknown elements into your past that you will have to unravel. This means we will really have to get to know your character. Where you were born. Your parents. Aspects of your childhood. First loves. Tragedies. Personality. Friends and rivals, etc.
Would spending this much time and energy developing your character be okay with you?
This campaign has a focus on pursuing bounties on both monsters and men while traveling across a open stretch of wilderness. While there will be common monsters such as orcs there is a wide array of new monsters, taken from other sources as inspiration. Such encounters would require you using skills and equipment unique to the campaign to defeat them. While this campaign will have a good amount of epic combat, there will also be allot of interaction in roleplay with other NPCs.
The faction that you will belong to is very steeped in northman culture (Vikings). While I am hoping for at least two more players there will also be two NPC companions who have their own histories and personalities. They would need to be treated as if they are other players (not pack mules or meat shields.) Depending on your history one of these companions could even be your best friend.
Does this still sound like a game you would be interested in playing?
This will not be a drop in. Drop out game. I have spent years developing this story and I expect anyone playing in it to care about their own character and the well being of their companions. While you character would be a neutral party who takes work from a wide array of both evil and good NPCs, I would not be interested in evil aligned characters. Your character certainly don’t have to be a paladin but just no burning down orphanages or robbing travelers. That sort of thing.
Does this still sound like a game you would be interested in playing?
Hello there, I see all your questions you ask and I will keep it short. I have been playing DnD for a little over 2 years. I enjoy the combat life style of the game because those are the moments people remember and that you can use to help you in the future of your campaign. I also care deeply for the character I would create, its a piece of you, and I would take this very seriously. And no I wont burn down an orphanages haha
Im interested in this but i need to know if this is online or face to face. Im new to dnd but i know most of the basics and would love to learn. I would also want to know if any classes or schools are restricted in the campaign along with the times that sessions would happen.
I live in US central time. While the plan is to play between the hours of 3 pm to 7 pm the time is adjustable by several hours either way. Let me know if you can fit in. :)
Hello skyre. Sorry for the late reply. I got bombarded with applications. Still reviewing them. Or doing interviews. There might still be a spot open. Please email me at rangerk89@gmail.com and I will send you the questionnaire. Might not arrive until tomorrow though due to the holiday.
Thanks for your interest .

Played D&D for about a year, with my uncle. People don't play it enough, but it's making a comeback. Thank you, Stranger Things!
Hi,
If there is still an opening I'm interested.
