Welcome to Sephritair's "Wayward Lands"...
The Setting!-
The year is 996 Post-Sundering, and the reclusive nations of Sephritair's "Wayward Lands" are stirring, fueled with a sense of urgency, as not a month ago their long placid sky began to crack, literally, and the dead...no longer seem complacent. Leaders scramble to understand, blame, secure, ...seize. Unsuspecting Wayward adventurers find themselves wedged between intrigue and wars, as a larger, distant and global threat grows. Meanwhile, on another plane, lost adventurers hurriedly seek answers to what is wrong, and more importantly, desperately, a way home. Beneath all, a long-forgotten struggle between the known gods and the hidden begins anew. Your adventure starts here.
The Campaigns!-
Wayward Lands campaigns are paid, ongoing campaigns set in a single, unified homebrew setting designed to provide optimal immersion, a sense of inclusion, and a gentle lore-learning curve. Though Sephritair is run as a living world, the heart of each campaign is the players, their stories, and choices, and how they relate to the greater events of this epic setting. Mechanics-wise, all groups play weekly and are run using a basic 5e ruleset with a few minor house-rules added to make the experience more welcoming to newer players. DM does character accents & voices! Leveling is benchmark. Sessions run three to four hours. More specific details about logistics are available via PM.
Schedule of Available Seats!-
Mondays (BUDDING CAMPAIGN) 1pm Pacific (4pm Eastern) - Ongoing, Started April 29 - TWO SEATS!
Application Process-
2 Questionnaires & A Trial Run!
Step 1- Please send your answers to the following in a PM (private message) to ThatBardThere
First name / preferred nickname?
Age & preferred pronouns?
Which upcoming group are you applying to? (Current seats still available in: Mon@1pm, all times in Pacific )
Have you done tabletop or other formats of roleplay before? If so- what/where/when?
What race/class would you most like to play in this campaign?
What is a quickie-version of your potential character's backstory?
What is your preferred balance of roleplay to combat in an average session?
Can you afford to commit to a long term, weekly game at the given price, (listed below in rates/disclaimer)?
What is your favorite color?
What, in brief, is the coolest RP scene you ever participated in/ or watched?
Step 2- Once I have your answers, I will contact you with a more detailed questionnaire on player preferences, character details, and playstyle. This may involve some back & forth.
Step 3- Should everything look good after that, I'll work with you to set up a free "trial run" game to complete the interview process and see if our in-action playstyles are a fit. *Do note if you are joining a pre-existing group, there may be a slightly longer "trial period" beyond the first free game to determine if your style will mesh well with the existing team long-term.
About The DM!-
Hi there! Name's September. I'll be your story-pilot for this evening. Buckle up! We're in for a nerdy ride! Seriously though- I am a 40-something creative writer, critter, & avid roleplay enthusiast. My DM experience began a bit unconventionally, as I gleaned most of my chops running persistent story arcs for large groups of players (30-100) in a variety of MMORPGs over the course of ~15 yrs. I have however switched over to tabletop, and am LOVING it, as it enables a much more personal, and immersive story. I've been running table campaigns now for a nice solid year! Oh, & I am also an artist & graphic designer. All your home-drawn maps are belong to me. :)
Rates/Disclaimer-
These games will require payment to the Game Master at a rate of $12 per player, per session, via Ko-Fi. The first "trial-run" game is always free. DnDBeyond is not responsible for any payment transactions and cannot enforce any private arrangements. Note: Rates will increase August 1st to $14 per player per game. Rates will never increase more than once a year.
Why Paid?-
A girl's gotta caffeinate! But more seriously, doing these campaigns as paid games lets me focus exclusively on delivering immersive and beautiful, personalized tales to my players. It also helps cover costs for reference materials & expenses (I have content share for the legendary bundle and more!), as well as covers prep time & labor making game-art! Spoilers!- I also provide personalized character-portrait tokens for all ongoing players. Examples:
Essentially though- I do my best to make every session worth every penny. And I never ask for payment for our first "trial run." Roleplay is personal, and I strongly believe it's essential to ensure we are a good fit for each other before committing to a regular game.
All that said, I hope to hear from you! & I look forward to helping craft -your-story.
Stay tuned for some IC rumors regarding each group!
NEW Campaign: The world you've known has erupted into chaos over the last short month. What will you do, how will you react, where will you go as the sky cracks apart? Your path is up to you...and a handful of unlikely new allies. Where does your tale begin?
I am part of Luna Sonata (the early Friday group) and I can say that this is perhaps one of the most entertaining and captivating campaign I've been a part of. That Bard There manages to give us the right amount of meaningful storylines and combat, her world is super in-depth and it shows that she's put a lot of effort in building a world that makes you want to explore. It's a very roleplaying-focus group (at least my group is), but there's not a lack of combat. This is definitely a group for someone who's looking for a good balance between roleplay and combat, who wants to be a part of a story that can (and will, like my group has experienced!) be entwined with other groups, in a dynamic world where your actions have a say in how the world is being shaped.
Totally recommend. Definitely one of the best choices I've made ever since I started on D&D!
I am in the Monday group, The Good Company (I'm the centaur, although I recently played as a giant spider for most of the game). I'm actually pretty new to D&D as a player, my sister recommended ThatBardThere and my experiences playing with them as a DM and the other PCs I engage with have been super wonderful. If you are looking for a engaging world and a DM who is FABULOUS, I highly encourage submitting an application. Outside of the game there's a great discord community that Story Pilot has created and its engaging and supportive if you want to be involved with it but not required.
This sounds well thought out and fun but the price is a bit much for me, 4 to possibly 5 sessions a month would be 56 bucks a month or more. I understand the paid subscription (that's basically what this is) but this is by far the most expensive I have seen. Most charge by the month when doing this kind of thing (Unless i'm misunderstanding the whole per session thing). Just a bit of feedback, wish I could join.
How long is a session? Because I have children at home, I wouldn't be able to start until 6pm PST/9pm EST, and even a 4 hour session would be pushing my limits.
@Kerrec -Sessions run typically 3 to 4 hours, most do hit that four-hour mark. I do take a short ten min break in the middle so people can stretch, snack, etc. There is still at least one seat in the late Monday or late Friday group that meets that start-time need! Also- several of my players have kids, I absolutely understand if you have an occasional quick parental-break need mid-flow. So long as it's not aggressively disruptive throughout the game, the story moves along!
Hi, longtime Wayward Lands player here! I've been here practically from day one level one, and plan to be here all the way to level 20. That Bard There has created an original D&D setting that has everything I could ever want in a campaign - the best blend of combat and roleplay that I've experienced in over two decades of playing this game. Whether you want to navigate politics of rival nations, explore ancient mysteries, or battle the foulest monstrosities to terrorize a town, this campaign will scratch that itch and then some!
And on a personal level, as a writer and GM myself, I appreciate the wealth of worldbuilding that's gone into making this setting as expansive and immersive as it is. There's plenty to use in this setting's lore to create whatever kind of character you want, and it's been a fantastic outlet for my own creativity when it comes to my character's backstory and their goals going forward. You're absolutely getting your money's worth in a rich and vibrant setting that the players shape with their every action, for good or ill. (Plus, I mean, a customized token of your character! Come on!)
Anyway, if you're looking for a game that's new and different, diverse and inclusive, this is absolutely the game for you. Come join us!
Hi there @ Drak07734! If you could, as written in the instructions, please PM me these details? I have sent you a PM so you need not hunt and can simply reply! No need to feed your personal information to the public!
