I have a doubt regarding the 11th level Kensei feature "Sharpen the blade". While I can see the use of this in regards to a situation where the monk would find themselves with a weapon which is not their personal one, but, let's say, a "random" normal long sword (considering the long sword is one of the chosen Kensei weapons), I feel this feature has a very edge case use.
The above is because, at least in my experience (aside from extremely low-magic settings), I would expect a lvl 11 character to already have one if not more magic weapon(s). One could use it in case they have a Kensei melee magic weapon and a non-magical Kensei ranged one, but in that case their fighting style might already be veering much more on trying to get closer to the enemy since the time they got the magical melee weapon.
Dunno, it seems a bit underwhelming and extremely situational for a lvl 11 feature... what do you guys think? Did I fail to see other uses/situations?

(Sorry for the years later reply, but anyone else who stumbles on this like me can read my reply) It's weak for short fights, but you can give yourself a +3 weapon for a minute. It's useful when you're fighting say a flying dragon or otherwise want to keep your distance (like if an enemy has an effect that damages you when you hit it in melee). Being forced into ranged will prevent you from using bonus action unarmed strikes or stunning strikes, that's when a kensei will start using a +2/3 longbow with kensei's shot and optional deft strikes. A +3 longbow will help you overcome a dragon's flying and AC. Traditionally, a Kensei doesn't really need a magical weapon, and will use other magical items, or a less typical magic weapon like a longsword of sharpness.

I think this feature works well with weapons like flame tongue and frost brand: magical weapons but with no bonus to attack roll and damage.
