Have you ever wanted to play a Paladin who fights with just a shield and throws it like Captain America? Have you ever wanted to play a Paladin that is so committed to their Oath it manifests as a blazing fire? Do you like Fireball?
If the answer to any of those questions is yes then this is the subclass for you! The Oath of Retaliation.
Please give it a try and let me know what you think. Constructive feedback welcome.
NOTE: The Level 15 and Level 20 features are meant to be very strong due to how late in the game they are, and how most players won't get a chance to use them in most campaigns. But if you do get a chance, please let me know how they feel.
Retaliation doesn’t sound very Paladiny imo, albeit a necessary ability. Having said that, O like Cap and Fireballls, so i think this could work! ;)
Intimidating presence is… a little weak. Is there a way you could give yourself proficiency or even expertise (at later levels) in intimidation to free up another ability on your Pally?
The spell list is very much like that one cleric class. Nit complaining though!
Shield of Might honestly seems like it should be partially its’ own weapon mastery option anyway! But wince it’s not, I like what you’ve done with it!
Fiery Retaliation is… ok. I think. I’m no expert on builds mind you; this is just my two coppers worth.
i’ve honestly wanted feats like your last two abilities for some time. I don’t find them too broken though honestly. If anything, I would say drop Fiery Retaliation and make a typical broken Paladin capstone. But that’s just me.
All and all it’s a fine idea! I’ve actually been trying aomething similar myself: a homebrew ranged barbarian, if you wantes to check it out in their forms.
Good luck, and remember to dip warlock!
…you know… cuz warlocks are awesome?
Sorry, if anything i should probably dump fighter on my fighter/warlock and go Paladin/Warlock. I’m just jot into big weapons, which seems like the goal with those builds.

XD I can't tell if you like the Subclass or not, but thank you for checking it out and giving feedback on all of the features!
The real strength of Fiery Retaliation is the fact it doesn't use your Reaction. So if you have 2 enemies that make 3 attacks each against someone in your Aura of Protection that's potentially an extra 6d8 Fire damage you're dealing on that Round. I thought it was very powerful, but if you think it's balanced correctly then that's good to hear lol.
I'm also glad someone else feels the same way about the Level 15 feature Shield Wall. This is based on a classic "Holy Knight with a Shield" ability I've seen in other games like FFXIV's Paladin action "Passage of Arms". It's very iconic to fantasy knights and it's weird that something like it doesn't exist in D&D, so I made it exist.
Lol I honestly do. I’m glad we seem to have a similar eye to things also.
I still don’t entirely understand Fiery Retaliations appeals. If anything, i would think you would want to use your reaction to free up your action. Can you explain further?
Sure. The feature says "no action required", meaning it does not use your Reaction.
You have 1 reaction every Round, and usually you'd want to use it on an Opportunity Attack, a spell, or a defensive feature. Fiery Retaliation will not prevent you from doing that.
