Hi, welcome to my recruitment thread for the Lost Mine's of Phandelver campaign.
I've been DM'ing 5e for about a year now and still learning. Have ran the LMoP a couple of times. As a newer DM I'm sure to make mistakes and get rules wrong. And I've never tried PBP before, so a bit to learn there too.
Can we keep recruitment to people who haven't played LMoP before if possible, and newer players are more than welcome! Please can we stay away from min/maxing, RP over simply creating optimal characters! :)
I've purchased the module on Roll20 (and in physical form) so will use screen shots from there to keep track of encounters where possible, but some will need to be in the murky 'theatre of the mind'.
Would like everyone to post at least once a week, hopefully the flow will mean it is much more frequent. Just let me know if you will be unavailable to post.
If you are interested post your interest here and PM me the details of your character.
Will leave recruitment open for a week from the time of this post.
EDIT The LMoP is a starter module and designed to take characters from Level 1 to level 5 (although I will probably level the party up to lvl 2/3 fairly quick and scale up later encounters so we can get to level 6 or 7) Character concepts are by no means fixed on your DM - can tweak once we have what constitutes a session zero for PBP. I'm in the UK - so it seems very likely we'll be playing across different time zones.

I have stuck with the basic adventure hook to keep it simple. Please come up with a backstory as to why you met Gunthren and why you accepted the adventure. Happy to work to flesh out PCs background or let them develop organically.
Very Brief Campaign Background
You are in the city of Neverwinter when Gundren Rockseeker hires you to escort a wagon to Phandalin.
Gundren has gone ahead with a warrior, Sildar Hallwinter, to attend to business in the town while the characters follow with the supplies. You will be paid 10 gp each by the owner of Barthen's Provisions in Phandalin when you deliver the wagon safely to that trading post.
I've played a part of it, but never the whole thing. If it's ok for me to join, let me know!
Name: Malaria
Race: Tiefling
Class: Warlock
Background: Charlatan
Age/Key physical features: Melaria is 26, has pale red skin and pretty facial features. Her horns are red and have gold jewelry hanging from them. She also has a short tail hanging off her bottom back.
Alignment: Neutral Evil
Character Bond: Melaria came from a noble family, but after having her land taken from her, by her traitor brother, she left, with the promise to come back and take what's hers.
Character Flaw: Melaria, despite her plans for revenge on her brother, could never help but falling for pretty faces, boy or girl.
Backstory: Melaria came from a rich and noble family, but after the passing of her parents, she was suppose to inherit her families land. Her brother however had other plans and stole the land from her. With anger burning in her veins, she stormed off and ended up in the woods, where she got lost and got close to the brink of death, this is where she made a pact with a fiend for power, in return, she would serve the fiend when it was time. This is where she finds Gundren. In desperate need of coin and training, she agrees to join Gundren.
Name: Frekor Summers. Race: Variant Human male. Class: Ranger (In case my character is chosen, can we talk about Favored Enemy and Natural Explorer so I don't choose ones that will never come up in the campaign?). Background: Folk hero. Age/Key physical features: 25 years old and 1,85 meters high. Caucasian and lean body structure, bluish green eyes, straight light brown hair, length to the shoulders. Alignment: Chaotic good. Character Bond: Those who fight beside me are those worth dying for. I was separated from my family for unknown reasons and one day, I will see them again. Character Flaw: Since I come from outside the city, I don't know exactly how to talk with other people in social situations and tend to be alone because of that. Backstory:
Frekor Summers was born from two young brave warriors of Neverwinter, a Paladin woman and a Cleric man that lived near the forest outside the city. Frekor was trained by them since his youth as he always aspired to be like them.
When he was 21 years old his parents went on a mission to Phandalin but never came back.
Now after 4 years honing his skills in the forest, he arrived to Neverwinter determined to find out what happened to his parents.
Interested! Newer to PBP, learning 5e. Love roleplay and can post often. Never played this campaign
Name: Tygron Blackhammer Race: Hill Dwarf Class: Cleric- Life Domain Background: Clan Crafter
Age/Key physical features: Middle aged dwarf, red balding hair and beard, streaked with grey. Ornately decorated chain mail and shield, war hammer.
Alignment: NG
Personality Traits:
I believe that anything worth doing is worth doing right. I can’t help it—I’m a perfectionist. I'm full of witty aphorisms and have a proverb for every occasion.
Ideals
Aspiration: I work hard to be the best there is at my craft.
Bonds
I will get revenge on the evil forces that destroyed my place of business and ruined my livelihood.
Flaws
I’m horribly jealous of anyone who can craft better than me.
backstory:
A well respected dwarf artisan, Tygron was renowned for creating highly decorated armor, weapons as well as jewelry. (He made all of his own weapons and gear) tragically- his home and shop were ransacked and robbed, family killed, and he was left for dead. (Who did this is TBD) While unconscious- he had a vision that led him to the worship of Marthammer Duin- and he took up a life of wandering on the road, helping travelers, and perhaps one day finding those who ruined his earlier life. He became a member of the volamtar ("blazers of fresh trails") . This is how he met Gundren Rockseeker- he was asked to assist this mission by his fellow clergy, and his role in the group is to keep everyone alive, or die trying!
Race: Half-Elf Class: Druid Background: Haunted One Age/Key physical features: 19 long blonde hair Alignment: Neutral Character Bond: A terrible guilt consumes me. I hope that I can find redemption through my actions.
Character Flaw: I feel no compassion for the dead. They’re the lucky ones.
Backstory:
My name is Fahana. I was born to a human father, and a fae mother. My life has been anything but normal. As a child, I had druidic powers since birth that my father never understood and my mother never encouraged. In fact, my mother was never around, and while my father worked, I spent time causing trouble and mischief all by myself. I grew up naughty, outcast, and filthy. When I became a young woman, I joined an adventuring team and spent years traveling the world and serving them like a tool. The day my father died and my mother returned, it was revealed to me by her that she never loved us, and my purpose for being born was part of some master plan to serve in the ranks of a higher, more cosmic purpose. I refused. Angry, frustrated, and alone, I left and fled to Neverwinter where I remained hidden from divine eyes. It was there the second chapter of my life began - where I found new friends and went on a mission - people who appreciated me for who I was. They understood me. No time for being sad. There's a new job to do - bringing provisions to Phandalin. I will stick with this group and become strong again. Then I will come for you, Mother.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/profile/leapingmountain/characters/49906268 Name: Tyrion the Farmer Race: Human (variant) Class: Paladin Background: Folk Hero Age/Key physical features: 18/Big Brawny farm boy Alignment: Neutral Good Character Bond: I protect those who can not protect themselves. Character Flaw: I'm convinced of the significance of my destiny and blind to my shortcomings and the risk of failure. Backstory: Tyrion is a local farm boy, strong but not too smart. Somewhere along his family tree is an ancestor who was considered a local hero during a conflict with barbarians. Tyrion's family would gather around the hearth, (once all the chores were done) and stories would be told of this ancestor's exploits, though it couldn't be agreed upon the ancestor's name or even if the ancestor was male or female. No matter, Tyrion was fascinated. Tyrion grew up playing the role of that ancestor over and over in his mind and the knowledge that the blood of that ancestor ran through his veins always gave him chills. Then came the day the Goblins attacked Phandlain and the call to arms came to all the surrounding farms. What was supposed to be Tyrion picking up his Bardiche and helping defend the village and surrounding area turned into Tyrion actually saving the day and the lives of many. The villagers praised the boy for his courage and his family took great pride in adding Tyrion's story to their personal history. In his excitement and overconfidence, Tyrion set out to capitalize on his local fame and follow in his ancestor's footprints, so it was off to Neverwinter to seek fame and fortune. Things did not turn out as Tyrion envisioned. 2 months in Neverwinter brought Tyrion crashing into the reality of the world and him living in a doorway of some back alley. It was the middle of the 3rd month when Tyrion found out there was a job leading back to Phandlain. Excited Tyrion was able to clean himself up and look presentable enough to present himself to Gundren Rockseeker. Tyrion's selling point was he was a local boy and know the place and people. If hired Tyrion can go back with some level of dignity and prove following his dream wasn't a fool's errand.
I am an almost completely new player to D&D5e, so am hoping I can apply for this one.
But wanted to double check one thing - you intend players to post once a week? Won't that make for an extremely slow game?
Thx!
Edel
Hey - yeah apply!
Ah - I meant once a week minimum. I imagine, in reality, it will be much more frequent than that. I suppose I didn't want to impose a "once a day" minimum (as life can get in the way!). But if it gets to the point where someone hasn't posted for a week I will start considering re-recruiting for that place (especially if it's a reoccurrence).
I already applied and I wanted to know if UA will be allowed.
Also since I want to be a ranger, if my character is chosen could we talk about Favored Enemy and Natural Explorer so I don't choose ones that will never come up in the campaign?

Backstory: Teo has been on the road for a while, and his cash and supplies are running low, so he is looking to earn some coin to keep him traveling in relative comfort. On a personal note, he would like to get into exploring the ruins of lost civilizations, as the mystery of dead languages and cultures fascinates him. He has recently started studying arcane locks and traps to help him in his exploration.

We won't track encumbrance, but keep it realistic (no carrying 85 warhammers whilst looking to sell them!).

Ok, gotcha Scubadaboopa! Thanks for the info.
Now I just need to decide what character I would like to play :D
I think I would like to go with a Bard perhaps, but martially inclined - someone who can assist/advise others in a scuffle, but also handle his own.
Just not really sure how to build it.
I'm brand spanking new and really want to play with people who are willing to be patient and friendly. May I join?
I've had a couple of PMs - and just to confirm that recruitment is still open until a week from my original posting date. Will select people at random.
A few points worth adding (added to original post)
The LMoP is a starter module and designed to take characters from Level 1 to level 5 (although I will probably level the party up to lvl 2/3 fairly quick and scale up later encounters so we can get to level 6 or 7)
Character concepts are by no means fixed on your DM - can tweak once we have what constitutes a session zero for PBP..
I'm in the UK - so it seems very likely we'll be playing across different time zones.

Very Interested in joining the campaign! I've played DnD for years and I can generally check for posts several times a day.
Full disclosure, I have played the beginning of this module before, but never got to finish. I really would like to know how it ends! I'd play as though I know nothing, just as I normally would a Rogue-type, and generally leave decision making to others until the point my old group stopped playing.
