Hello! I am kind of new at DND. I've only played one game, but the game lasted for almost a year when the DM wasn't able to finish for IRL reasons. Now I'm on the lookout for a new game! I used to write as a hobby, so I like to use DND to rp and practice my writing, storytelling, character development, etc. I like more casual long-winded games (I can post a couple times a day), but I am up for anything!
I only have an elf bard character atm
And if anyone else is new and also looking for a group, we could come together and then try to find a DM.
I'm not new, but I am definitely looking for a group! I also use dnd to practice writing! I've found it works really well to get character voice and development down.
I have a number of characters I could play, and I'm not too picky on setting or story!
Not being new is fine! I just see so many new people posting and having a hard time finding a game like me :/. I don't really know how a lot of this works, or if we have to have a story/setting first and then find a DM. I've just been playing one game in my free time for the past year and it was just so fun!
Hello! I've recently found a great server on Discord full of very friendly people and a couple that DM all kinds of Play-By-Post games there. Everyone is very nice and beginners are certainly welcome. Please feel free to join us!
@sunnyhoneytea (and @inkedwolves by extension =), what kind of setting or adventure are you looking for? Do you prefer a set adventure, like Lost Mine of Phandelver, or a homebrew setting where we make up a campaign together based on character actions, interests, and player desires? Are you OK with a once or twice a day play-by-post game?
About me / Session Zero:
About Me: I’m a veteran gamer. I prefer a good story to optimized mechanics. I have come to absolutely trust in the awesome power of randomness. I run PG-13 games. (Sometimes they can be dark, usually they are humorous, but I try to make them appropriate for the younger gamers…) I post once a day – usually. I rely solely on the published rules. In other words – no 3rd party content. I expect players to let the group know if you are going to be out of pocket for more than a day - I want everyone be involved but will move the story on without you if you disappear.
Hard limits: A threshold that should never be crossed. Think twice about actions that approach, but may not cross, these limits, as it is likely to create genuine anxiety, fear, and discomfort. These apply to both players (out-of-game) and characters (in-game).
Do no evil (No evil characters or actions)
Exploitation
Harassment
Sex (romance and relationships are fine)
Violence toward children
Vulgarity (making explicit and offensive reference to sex or bodily functions)
The following limits are open for party decision. Are there any topics you don’t want to come up at all in this game? Are there any topics you are uncomfortable with, but can handle in small doses, or as a background element? If these create genuine anxiety, fear, or discomfort for you, we will make them hard limits.
Disrespectful behavior
Gratuitous swearing
Intra-party romance
Racial profiling (includes in- and out-of-game race comments)
Rules lawyering
Slavery
House Rules:
Reroll 1’s on any Healing spells/potions
Critical fails – usually something humorous or disadvantageous, but not fatal
Player Questions: On a scale of 1 (low) to 10 (high):
What’s your level of experience with D&D? (1- None to 10 - Extensive)
How much do you want the players’ actions to drive the story?
How much do you want the characters to get caught up in a larger plot determined by the DM?
Do you prefer tactical combat with maps, minis, and meticulous counting of movement and spell ranges?
Do you prefer more free-flowing narrative-focused combat without such granular attention to detail? (e.g. theater of the mind descriptions of combat)
What level of emotional intensity (romance, horror, etc.) are you comfortable with?
Do you prefer a more logic-based world (physics with magic), or a fantastical place (where anything can, and might, happen)?
SOCIAL CONTRACT
I, the DM, will respect you, the players, by running a game that is fun, fair, and tailored for you. I will allow every player to contribute to the ongoing story and give every character moments to shine. When a player is talking, I will listen.
You, the players, will respect me and the effort it takes to create a fun game for everyone. You will allow me to direct the campaign, arbitrate the rules, and settle arguments. When the DM is talking, the players are listening.
You, the players, will respect one another, listen to one another, support one another, and do your utmost to preserve the cohesion of the adventuring party.
Should anyone disrespect another or violate our social contract in some other way, the group may dismiss that person from the game.

I'm typically down for either a module or a homebrew game! I do prefer not to do lost mines just because I've done it before. I'm perfectly good with a once or twice a day PBP game!
An answer to the Player Questions you provided:
What’s your level of experience with D&D? (1- None to 10 - Extensive) - 10
How much do you want the players’ actions to drive the story? - 8 or 9
How much do you want the characters to get caught up in a larger plot determined by the DM? - 9 or 10 (I like stories that have plots, but I also like when PC choice matters and impacts the game and world!)
Do you prefer tactical combat with maps, minis, and meticulous counting of movement and spell ranges? - 5 (I'm a go-with-the-flow kind of player, but given the choice, free-flowing narrative is more fun for me.)
Do you prefer more free-flowing narrative-focused combat without such granular attention to detail? (e.g. theater of the mind descriptions of combat) - 9 (See above)
What level of emotional intensity (romance, horror, etc.) are you comfortable with? - 10 (As long as everyone involved is comfortable, I'm good)
Do you prefer a more logic-based world (physics with magic), or a fantastical place (where anything can, and might, happen)? - Fantastical, mostly, but some logic is good.
I am so down for anything! And I can definitely do once or twice a day!
What’s your level of experience with D&D? (1- None to 10 - Extensive)I would say maybe 4, but possibly less. I played one game for almost a year, but still feel like I'm not familiar with a lot of it.
How much do you want the players’ actions to drive the story? I feel like there being possibly being larger consequences for actions can really make a gripping story, and make every decision feel like it counts, as well as make the story so immersive, but I also love that sometimes the DM wants to tell a story a specific way. It's just really cool to be a part of bringing someone's story to life!
How much do you want the characters to get caught up in a larger plot determined by the DM? I like either or! I think it's so fun being able to being a character in someone's story/plot.
Do you prefer tactical combat with maps, minis, and meticulous counting of movement and spell ranges? I don't think I'm really experienced enough to have much of an opinion, but I think I just like going with what feels right as opposed to being so meticulous about combat.
Do you prefer more free-flowing narrative-focused combat without such granular attention to detail? (e.g. theater of the mind descriptions of combat) I think I like free-flowing narrative combat, but detailed combat can also make the scenes more intense. So I think I really just need to play more to really know for sure my preferences.
What level of emotional intensity (romance, horror, etc.) are you comfortable with? I'm just a fiend for a good story. I love really intense, even angst-ridden stories. I never even mind 'bad' things happening to my character. I prefer them actually! Conflict is not bad rp for me, but makes such interesting stories!
Do you prefer a more logic-based world (physics with magic), or a fantastical place (where anything can, and might, happen)? I have no preferences! Just love a good story, and I'm happy with whatever story the DM wants to tell!

Are you recruiting for a pbp game?
Discord play-by-post lover. Hater of westmarches. Just gimme some character driven gameplay please.
This looks interesting, as long as the goal is a PBP game :)
Do you aim to let it all happen here on the beyond-forums or are you aiming at discord?
