You are not welcome. Not here. Not anywhere. You are an abomination, a wretch unfit for life in reality. Thus, you have been plucked from it and taken here, where your foulness will not offend. Where is here? Precisely. Here is nowhere. Capriccio is nowhere. It is the only place for you and your kind, where you cannot taint the world with your sickness. What is here? Weren't you listening, monster? Capriccio is a forest of staircases, leading everywhere and nowhere. Capriccio is a mirrorless maze of grey marble. Capriccio is a prison, for things like you. A place where you can be locked away, so that no one will ever have to gaze upon your face again. Welcome to Capriccio. You are not welcome.
Greetings and salutations, ladies, gentlemen, boys, girls, neithers, boths, and in-betweens! It's that time again! Humbug's gonna start another bizarre game set in a ridiculous setting even though people really just want a normal rational game, but Humbug isn't going to listen because Humbug is far too gone off the deep end! This is a fun little concept that's been itching at the back of my brain for a bit, so I figured I'd give it a whirl.
The basic idea is this: you are all monsters. Not just monsters, however. You are the foulest of the foul, the most horrifying perversions of biology imaginable, to the point where you simply could not be allowed to continue existing in your world. Thus, you were bagged by Capriccio, the place where nightmares are imprisoned, for 'rehabilitation.' Your fellow inmates are just as horrifying as you, and are subjected to all the same horrors as you, for Capriccio is not a pleasant place. The exact nature of the prison will be explained more in the actual game, as it's not particularly important for your character submissions.
If you're interested in playing a horrifying monstrosity the likes of which could not be witnessed by man without triggering an endless deluge of terrors, then you just have to fill out the following application. Be warned, though: This campaign will contain heavy body horror and other forms of horror. If you're not interested in those, don't apply.
Ability Scores: Roll three sets of 4d6, drop lowest, reroll ones. Take the one you like best. Initially, choose two ability scores. Raise their caps to 22 and increase them both by 2.
Race: Now, here's the intersting part. You're not going to be selecting a traditional D&D race. Instead, you're going to be taking a look at THIS LIST(https://homebrewery.naturalcrit.com/share/SNPL3WDWc1dj), and selecting 5 feats from the list. You are going to use these to build your monstrous body. Please do not just pick the most powerful ones, and instead pick ones that complement each other and work towards the concept you have in mind. Then, give me the list that you've selected, and an explanation of what sort of horrible thing you are. I am open to suggestions for monstrous feats not listed here that you'd be interested in.
Class: You'll be starting at level 9. Multiclassing allowed. Homebrew is permitted, as long as you run it by me first. I am generally most receptive towards Mage Hand Press stuff, they make good content.
Equipment: You have 2,000 gold to spend on equipment, and will lose any gold you don't spend. You won't start with it, but instead will obtain it immediately after the events that begin the campaign. You also have 2 uncommon magic items and 1 rare magic item. These magic items are not physical items, but are instead somehow integrated into your biology. For example, eyes of the eagle just means that your eyes are extremely keen, or a belt of giant strength just means that you are exceptionally strong.
Backstory: Most inhabitants of Capriccio weren't always this awful. What the hell happened to you? Were you created in a laboratory by a mad scientist? Subjected to a horrifying curse? Did you intentionally make yourself this way? Who were you before this? Or was this fate just a sad consequence of your creation, and you were always a monster? Be creative. The more creative, the better. Feel free to make up any world elements that would aid your backstory.
Physical Description: I want to know what you look like. Give me all the juicy, warty, pus-oozing details.
If you have questions or think I've missed something, let me know!

Ability scores:(before increases)18,16,15,13,10,7
Racial traits: Blink, Spider Climb, Amphibious, Flight, Sprinter. I am going for simply a Monstrosity covered in limbs on different kinda each for there own use this is a relatively small agile creature that has been running his whole life and was finally caught he is always moving in some way and looking for places to hide.
Class: Nine levels in rogue.
Equipment: Ring of water walking, boots of eleven kind, Boots of speed
Backstory:
In a small, secluded village nestled deep within the dark woods, there once lived a seemingly ordinary child named Ethan. He grew up in a loving family, with a doting mother and a caring father. Ethan was known for his kind heart and curious nature, always seeking adventure and exploring the mysteries of the natural world that surrounded him.
However, tragedy struck when his mother fell gravely ill. Despite their desperate efforts, she succumbed to her illness, leaving a void in the hearts of Ethan and his father. Overwhelmed by grief, Ethan's father descended into madness, consumed by the pain of his loss and desperate to preserve the memory of his beloved wife.
Driven by his twisted desire to keep his wife alive in some form, Ethan's father delved into forbidden knowledge and dark rituals. Desperate to find a way to ensure his son's survival, he subjected young Ethan to a series of excruciating experiments. These experiments forever changed the course of Ethan's life, transforming him into a creature of the night.
The experiments granted Ethan extraordinary abilities. His once-normal physique sprouted magnificent wings, allowing him to soar through the skies with grace and agility. He discovered that he could teleport instantly from one place to another, disappearing and reappearing at will, which enabled him to escape dangerous situations or strike from unexpected angles.
Ethan's father, now consumed by his obsession, continued his twisted experiments, pushing the boundaries of his son's newfound abilities. He discovered that Ethan could breathe underwater, granting him the ability to navigate the depths with ease, exploring hidden realms beneath the waves. Additionally, Ethan's enhanced physical prowess allowed him to run at astonishing speeds, his movements becoming a blur as he raced through the world.
But the cost of these powers weighed heavily on Ethan's soul. The experiments had taken a toll on his humanity, as he struggled to reconcile the monstrous being he had become with the innocent child he once was. The burden of his father's deranged actions forced Ethan into a life of hiding, concealing his true nature from the outside world.
However, Ethan's solitude was not destined to last forever. Eventually, his father's madness led to his own demise, leaving Ethan orphaned and utterly alone. With his tormentor gone, Ethan became a fugitive, sought after by those who feared the unnatural powers he possessed.
After years of evading capture, Ethan's luck finally ran out. He was apprehended and sent to Capprico, a notorious prison designed to contain and isolate dangerous monsters like himself. Within the prison's dark confines, Ethan resides, haunted by the memories of his tragic past and longing for a chance at redemption.
Despite his monstrous appearance and the taint of his father's madness, there is still a flicker of humanity within Ethan's heart. Deep down, he yearns for acceptance and understanding, hoping that one day, someone will see beyond his monstrous exterior and recognize the child he once was—a child burdened by the sins of his father, forever trapped within the prison walls of Capprico.
Physical description:
Ethan, once an ordinary child, now bears the grotesque mark of his father's twisted experiments. His body is a haunting blend of human and monstrous features, a testament to the pain and torment he has endured.
His face, once innocent and cherubic, has been twisted beyond recognition. The smooth, youthful skin has become pallid and marred with scars, remnants of countless agonizing procedures. His eyes, once vibrant and full of wonder, now gleam with a haunting intensity, reflecting the darkness that has taken hold of his soul. They possess an otherworldly glow, a mix of eerie hues that range from a sickly green to a cold, piercing blue.
From his temples sprout magnificent, leathery wings that stretch outwards, bearing the weight of his sorrow and granting him the ability to take flight. These wings, once a symbol of freedom, now serve as a constant reminder of the monstrous nature forced upon him.
Ethan's body is a twisted amalgamation of human and unnatural traits. His limbs have elongated, giving him a ghoulish appearance. His fingers, once delicate and nimble, have become gnarled and claw-like, capable of inflicting unspeakable harm. Jagged spikes protrude from his joints, adding to his unsettling visage.
Covering his body is a patchwork of scars and welts, the result of his father's relentless experimentation. These scars serve as a grotesque tapestry, telling the story of pain and suffering etched into his very flesh. Some scars are jagged and raw, while others have healed into keloid ridges, serving as a constant reminder of his past torment.
As Ethan moves, his body contorts in unsettling ways, his movements fluid and sinuous, akin to that of a predatory creature. His once-normal voice has been replaced by a guttural rasp, filled with a haunting resonance that echoes through the darkest corners of Capprico.
This tortured monster, Ethan, stands as a living testament to the horrors inflicted upon him. He is a walking manifestation of his father's madness and an embodiment of the tragedy that has befallen his young life. A tragic figure, caught between the realms of humanity and monstrosity, forever imprisoned within the walls of Capprico.
So I did not choose either of these traits but I was wonder if you chose the extra limbs trait and the claws wouldn't you be able o attack with theses claws because they are not weapons and such don't take much effort
Class: Druid/Circle of Spores (Changed because the more I thought about it was duplicating the race too much and Spores fits better)
Equipment: Staff of insects, cloak of protection
Backstory: I am/was human. When I began my druid studies I was warned about this circle but I was young and foolish and had heard they would grant a great power to the one most worthy. I worked hard and dedicated myself to the my circle, my new family. When I was told that I had been chosen to receive a rare gift. The ceremony was painful, but I had endured more. it went on for what seemed like an eternity. i felt my body getting lighter and my conciseness leaving my body. When I regained my senses the ceremony was done. My leader , smiling, stood over me. I felt different, no that would be an understatement. I was remade. I was a swarm.
Physical description: I resemble a swarm of mosquitoes. I more glide along the ground than walk. To speak I use telepathy and it has a kind of buzzy sound (like a bad microphone/speaker sound). I carry a staff. There are times when there is a wind I disperse a little but with concentration can bring myself back into form. I can change my form into that of any animal (wild shape) but still made up of insects. I can also change into a giant insect.

Chembris Norotos - A "mostly" human looking male Medusa type creature. Designed to be the face of the party, if this party ever has need of such a thing... Often passes for normal until his transformation is triggered.
Chembris Norotos could almost pass as normal. Without transforming to his monstrous self the only real telltale sign he’s not normal are the snakes he has for hair, though they tend to be docile and lethargic until he transforms. This perhaps makes him even more dangerous - He can be smooth and witty and charming, charisma incarnate… until he lets his veil slip and people see his true self.
Physical Description:
At first glance Chembris appears like a handsome, slender though very pale human male with dreadlocked hair.Though no, that’s not quite right. Not pale…white.Like ivory white.Albino, perhaps? For his hair is the same shade.Though hair is wrong too, if you get close enough to look closely. They are not dreadlocks, they are snakes!Writhing or just bouncing as he moves, you probably don’t want to wait yo find out…
Transformed Appearance:
When transformed Chembris' otherness becomes more so - His skin transforms to living stone, the snakes he has for hair gain their natural greenish hue and actively slither and writhe, his eyes have a faint alien green glow which gives his stone white features a serpentine appearance and a frightening aura seems to linger about him seen only by senses most people don’t even realize they have.
Backstory:
Who knows what the true origin of such a creature is?Most would tell a tale of them being cursed for some evil so foul that they deserved to be an outcast.Others would tell tale that the creature was the gods vengeance on those of mankind who were foolish enough to brave looking at the workings of the gods too closely. As for his own beliefs, Chembris believes himself to be the son of the one true Medusa.Normal birth or reanimated victim with a new spirit inside, who could really say?But Chembris bored of the isolation his mother lived in and eventually sought to stretch his boundaries, and hunting territory…
Equipment:TBD later at home where easier to research :)
Wand of Paralysis - Would be interested in modifying this into like a Petrification Power that I can use when Transformed. I'll take as is, of course, but modifying to fit the theme seems cool...
Brooch of Living Essence - Building them to be the "face" of the party, if it ever needs one, so seeming a neutral humanoid could be helpful...
You want a full list of what the 2k is spent on? Mainly the normal stuff - Armor, weapon, backpack, etc... I imagine Chebris won't actually spend most of it.
Class: Bard College of Swords 6 / Warlock Genie Patron 3
Feats:
Undead/Construct Nature
Innate Magic
Multiple Heads (snakes for hair)
Regeneration (except necrotic and radiant)
Transformation - pick two more feats that you have only in transformed mode...
Terrorizer (Skin turns to stone, snakes awaken, gain color and writhe angrily and his eye glow an sickly green…)
Shell Armor (he’s living stone - AC becomes 17+Dex modifier)
So I did not choose either of these traits but I was wonder if you chose the extra limbs trait and the claws wouldn't you be able o attack with theses claws because they are not weapons and such don't take much effort
Sure, you'd be able to attack with them while still holding stuff in your other hands, but you wouldn't get more attacks or anything.

Unhappy that the market got rid of individual purchases for one-off subclasses, magic items, and monsters?
Oh my... now this is interesting. I have an idea in mind for a character who is a type of flying ice devil, a Barbarian 2/Hexblade Warlock x whose gimmick is Armor of Agathys + Rage. Let's see what kind of monster I can make with the stats...
Backstory: Once a human priestess, Lunette made the unfortunate mistake of blaspheming against her patron deity by taking a lover within the temple. Enraged, the goddess transformed Lunette into a stone monster, destined to watch the temple forever as a warning to those who would dare to blaspheme against the goddess in her own temple. However, as the years went by, the goddess was slowly forgotten and her powers waned. Eventually, Lunette broke free of the grip of the goddess, her heart filled with rage as she she vowed to destroy every vestige of her former patron and make sure that the goddess could never return to power, slaughtering the few remaining believers and burning any of the sacred texts that she could find. She even blotted out the goddess's name from her own memory. Her burning hatred and destructive tendencies worried the gods, as she vandalized many of their shrines and killed their followers in her madness. So the gods, good and evil alike, came to an agreement: the wretched creature could not be allowed to continue her crusade. And so, she was banished to Capriccio, where she continued to seethe and plot her vengeance...
Magic items: Belt of Hill Giant Strength, Eldritch Claw Tattoo, Rod of the Pact Keeper (+1)
Appearance:
Lunette is a fearsome stone gargoyle-creature. Her 'skin' is rough and cold to the touch. Her body has many jagged edges that look sharp enough to slice a person open. Many small bony ridges protrude along her spine, from her horns, etc. She isn't especially tall, standing at about 5'7, but her wings and horns make her appear much larger than she really is. Hey yellow eyes almost look blind as they are covered with a translucent film and she almost never blinks, yet at the same time you could swear that she is able to see straight into your soul...
Concept: PC is a xenomorph that somehow retained the consciousness of the humanoid host organism. It has its old memories of its life before, but also remembers ripping and bursting its way free from its own chest, killing its old self in the process. Now it lives on like a tormented ghost trapped inside of a horrific, nightmare-fuel killing machine.
I'm sure there's some nasty homebrew that would work as a class, but I think a straight Rogue/Assassin 9 punches the ticket. Sneak attack and assassinate both look like they belong.
Though now that I think about it... there would need to be some fighter to pick up Unarmed fighting style.
OH... and that won't count as finesse weapons for purposes of sneak attack. Oh no... it's all falling apart. My beautiful monster...
Ah well. Best wishes on this game. It's a killer concept.
PC - Ethel - Human - Lvl 4 Necromancer - Undying Dragons * Serge Marshblade - Human - Lvl 5 Eldritch Knight - Hoard of the Dragon Queen
DM -(Homebrew) Heroes of Bardstown *Red Dead Annihilation: ToA *Where the Cold Winds Blow : DoIP * Covetous, Dragonish Thoughts: HotDQ * Red Wine, Black Rose: CoS * Greyhawk: Tides of War
Question regarding race: Ok, we're picking 5 traits from that list but... To make a character sheet we need to pick a race. So are we all using the same thing, do we still pick a race but ignore the descriptions, etc? Cause picking a race will give stat bumps and things like darkvision and such unless we all pick vanilla Human or something?
Though now that I think about it... there would need to be some fighter to pick up Unarmed fighting style.

Use a feat to pick up Fighting Initiate to get Unarmed Fighting and work with the DM to get some kind of gloves or hand wraps that count as finesse weapons as one of your magical items...

Who knows what the true origin of such a creature is? Most would tell a tale of them being cursed for some evil so foul that they deserved to be an outcast. Others would tell tale that the creature was the gods vengeance on those of mankind who were foolish enough to brave looking at the workings of the gods too closely. As for his own beliefs, Chembris believes himself to be the son of the one true Medusa. Normal birth or reanimated victim with a new spirit inside, who could really say? But Chembris bored of the isolation his mother lived in and eventually sought to stretch his boundaries, and hunting territory…
Equipment: TBD later at home where easier to research :)
You want a full list of what the 2k is spent on? Mainly the normal stuff - Armor, weapon, backpack, etc... I imagine Chebris won't actually spend most of it.

Sure, you'd be able to attack with them while still holding stuff in your other hands, but you wouldn't get more attacks or anything.

No, I don't believe so.

Oh my... now this is interesting. I have an idea in mind for a character who is a type of flying ice devil, a Barbarian 2/Hexblade Warlock x whose gimmick is Armor of Agathys + Rage. Let's see what kind of monster I can make with the stats...

Unhappy that the market got rid of individual purchases for one-off subclasses, magic items, and monsters?

Loving the concepts so far. Keep it up, and keep it nasty!

Racial traits: Flight, Shell Armor, Claws, Relentless, Construct Nature
Class: Barbarian 2/Warlock (Hexblade) 7
Background: Acolyte

Oh man. I don't have room on my plate for any more games but, at risk of cluttering the thread, I want to make one just for fun...
Monster Traits: Darkvision; Savage; Shell Armor; Spider Climb; Terrorizer
DM - (Homebrew) Heroes of Bardstown * Red Dead Annihilation: ToA * Where the Cold Winds Blow : DoIP * Covetous, Dragonish Thoughts: HotDQ * Red Wine, Black Rose: CoS * Greyhawk: Tides of War
Use a feat to pick up Fighting Initiate to get Unarmed Fighting and work with the DM to get some kind of gloves or hand wraps that count as finesse weapons as one of your magical items...
