How much experience do you have with DnD and the play-by-post setting? I've been playing in pbp games for a while now. DnD has been a hobby for about +/-5 years now, i honestly dont know exactly. During this time i both played and DMed, though more oneshots than campaigns. But i am currently running a (almost) weekly game for three friends where they try to stop an evil god from being resummoned after they were previously banished by its kind for (almost) unknown reasons.
Character name: Esben Coviel
Race: Half-Elf
Class: Bard
Backstory: Coviel was the result of the forbidden love of a human farmer and an elven woman living in the forest. He grew up in the elven city with his mother but was never really welcome there, even when he was just a child the other treated him with aversion. When he reached an age in which he could care for himself he left the city and wandered to Meadowheaven in hope of acceptance there. Though he should not receive it. With disapointment he decided to call the forest his new home. The trees accepted him and became his first true friends and told him many interesting tales. In rare occasions people from town visit him for advice. In one such event he learned that Farmer Hal was missing. He asked the trees and they told him a secret. With that information he has to find Hal, because if he does not then...
I picked the Hermit background for Esben which gives him the "Discovery" background feature.
The quiet seclusion of your extended hermitage gave you access to a unique and powerful discovery. The exact nature of this revelation depends on the nature of your seclusion. It might be a great truth about the cosmos, the deities, the powerful beings of the outer planes, or the forces of nature. It could be a site that no one else has ever seen. You might have uncovered a fact that has long been forgotten, or unearthed some relic of the past that could rewrite history. It might be information that would be damaging to the people who consigned you to exile, and hence the reason for your return to society.
Work with your DM to determine the details of your discovery and its impact on the campaign.
If that is something you want to do i'd be down. otherwise id probably change the background to outlander and just have someone of the village come ask him for help with finding Farmer Hal.
How did they find themselves in Meadowhaven? They were always there, or at least close by.
Mechanically the character would be a bard but i would play them as much like a druid as reasonably possible to get a shaman-vibe going.

Aeran Dormaris - L2 Paladin on his way to Phandelver
My experience: I've been a taking part in pbp for a little over 2 years now, and have been playing dnd for about 4. (Maybe more? I'm not sure at this point lol.) That said, I know my way around the forums, (including the terrible dice roller in thread and on character sheet) and I've got a pretty good grasp on the game mechanics (Though I will not pretend to be an expert). I do also have some experience DMing for a pbp (Though not a ton) so I'll be happy to lend any help that I can.
Name: Shugo Ryu
Race: High elf
Class: Monk
Background: Noble
Backstory:
Seventh son to an extremely wealthy and powerful noble, Shugo never really had the chance to inherit the title, he was also never really viewed as anything special nor did he receive as many privileges as his elder siblings. That's fine with him though, so long as he's fed he doesn't particularly care if he inherits even a shred of his parent's power.
For most of his life, all that's been required of him has been that he trains his mind and body so he can protect the next head of the family. Problem is, he doesn't really think to highly of his eldest brother Kozu...or the second son Ryzo. Both of them clearly think way to highly of themselves and he's sure neither of them would make good leaders. (On top of that, they don't seem to like their younger brothers hanging around...) Why didn't his father see that? The old man seems to only see those two as potential candidates for his seat. Though he is smart enough to at least give them some kind of test... He's asked them to find some sort of new knowledge that the family can use, though by 'new' he's including ancient forgotten arts. Now how does that make sense? No matter, this test has given Shugo a plan.
Out of all his siblings, his third eldest sister Akari, is the only one he see's fit to rule. She has a kind heart, a strong will, and a good sense of justice. Unfortunately, she is not strong in body. In fact, she can hardly escape the confines of her room. ...That is where he comes in. If he can find some new knowledge or power, then he can give it to her, and SHE could be the head of the family. Then, if she needs protection, she'd have him. With her in charge, he wouldn't have to worry about his family falling apart, plus he knows she'd always give him a place to stay.
Now all he has to do is find something to impress his old man... it's been seven years since he shared his plan with Akari, received her approval and set off on his quest. He's made great progress in his training... at least, he thinks he has...but little to none on finding anything to get him any closer to his goal. So he decided to take another approach... where else to find some special knowledge than where better to look then a town where so many fantastical stories have been spun? Where better to look, then MeadowHaven?
My Experience: I'm a very casual DnD player, it just hasn't fallen into place for me the way it has for a lot of others. (No people nearby to play with, and none who are interested to learn it with me.) So I've been looking to this site to play, though it hasn't borne much fruit. I've played a bit, I know how to use the dice roller and such. I'm familiar with the basic rules and lore, though I'm nowhere near an expert. Looking forward to learning together and hopefully getting a few new adventures under my belt.. Currently trying hard to get a Dragonborn off the ground, and learn how to play a fighter.
Character name: Wulcrath Vokrun
Race: Dragonborn (Red)
Class: Fighter
Background: Soldier
Backstory: Wulcrath isn't like many Dragonborn he's aware of. Surely born in some clan somewhere... but it's not like he'd remember. Instead, his earliest memories are of living with an Old Human man on the edge of a forest outside a village. His "Father" so to speak, wasn't a very talkative man. And when Wulcrath enquired as to where he came from, he'd never receive a straight answer. His childhood days were filled with work, and it only got busier for him as he grew, towering over most in his village, he was popular choice for delegation. Despite his strange situation... his father was kind and patient, and did all he could for Wulcrath, teaching him to kind, patient, and hardworking.
Life was easy for a while, if busy. There was always work for the big Dragonborn, whether it was tilling a field, moving boxes, or chopping wood. If it was of a physical nature, someone would offload it onto Wulcrath if they could. With his father too old to work, that was simply how it was, he'd never questioned it. Though most of his time earning Gold was spent in the town Guard. They'd taught him to handle weapons and wear armor, and then stand someplace and look big and scary. And Life settled into that comfortable Rhythm for years.
Not too long after the Dragonborn had turned 22 years of age, his father had become deathly Ill. Wulcrath was the one who had to make the arrangements to have him buried, and decide what to do with his things. He decided on simply leaving it all to the village, though he loved his home, there was nothing left keeping him there. He stuck around to be with his father as he passed away, and then give over his body to a Priest, then left one morning And so, for a year now, Wulcrath's new normal is wandering the continent, floating into towns to look for work before he disappears again. His Year on the road has given him experience in a fight, though he' wouldn't say he enjoys it.
How did they find themselves in Meadowhaven?: Meadowhaven is just another town the Dragonborn has wandered into for him. If there's work for coin to be found, he'll take it as always.. So when word of Farmers Hal vanishing reaches him. Well... he certainly won't just sit back. Money is tight, and Inn Rooms aren't free. The Old Farmer is probably just lost in the forest... this should be easy, and he needs help after all.

High Hopes, Low Rolls. Timezone Is EST. Surely THIS one will reach an ending...
How much experience do you have with DnD and the play-by-post setting?
I have been playing D&D and other TTRPGs for 22 years (which makes me sound old) and been doing PbP for just smidge shorter than that. In my RL games, I'm the forever DM (which I do love) so I come to forums and chat servers to be a player again.
No one in Meadowhaven knew much about the halfling who moved in to an old cottage just outside of town. His graying hair and craggy face, with an ever present frown, made him an easy person to avoid. He would occasionally scowl his way into the town proper to buy food, ink, and parchment. And occasionally random and strange things were on his shopping lists, leading to rumors of magic and sorcery. It was Hal who approached him first, leaving a basket of vegetables by the cabin and knocking before starting to walk away. The halfling stuck his head outside and shouted, "Wuzzat?" Hal turned and said simply, "Extra food." The halfling scowled at the basket, like he scowled at everything, and said, "Wadda ye want?" Hal chuckled and said, "Nothing. Just helping out a neighbor." The halfling's frown somehow deepened before he slammed the door shut ... after he pulled the basket inside.
The next morning, Hal stepped out to see the halfling sitting with some of the old farming tools. The handles on many of the tools were worn and close to the end of their service, but each one the halfling picked up was put down looking almost brand new. Hal approached and the halfling looked up, almost not frowning. Hal nodded and said, "Thank you for using your magic." The halfling just stared and then said, "Yah." Then he got up, dusted himself off and walked back to his cabin. The attitude to the halfling in Meadowhaven changed. Folks brought him broken goods and he fixed them, asking nothing in return. So people brought him food or goods or helped when the weather went foul. And the cantankerous loner became the hedge wizard.
Hal continued to reach out to Merdak, or Merd as the halfling preferred to be called. The two would sometimes spend evenings together, sipping on a bit of moonshine Merd distilled behind his cottage. It was during these talks that Merd opened up about his past: a life of crime in the big city, blackmailing those who deserved it and those who probably didn't. Merd had been the craftsman, making fakes, modifying documents, and cobbling together evidence (whether real or fake) to stand up to scrutiny. He taught himself some spells to make his job easier. But that was all until Merd's gang targeted the wrong noble. As his friends were being knifed in dark streets, Merd got the hell away from the city and settled in the sleepiest village he could find, hoping his past wouldn't chase him this far.
But now Hal is missing. And Merd is worried for his friend. But Merd also knows he's not the strongest or quickest. So he hopes others show up and he can tag along and find out what happened to his friend ... and make anything that hurt Hal pay dearly for the mistake.
Character name: Rowan Merrick Race: Firbolg Class: Druid Background: Folk Hero Backstory: Rowan is a local. His family started farming here about 1150 years ago and the farm has passed from father to son since then. Rowan is the 4th Merrick to farm this land and he's looking for a wife to raise some sons so he can pass it on. He grows a garden and has sheep, goats, chickens, a donkey named Earl, a milk cow-Tula, and a dog named Luke. He is a follower of the old ways and has a knack for "nature magic". Though he looks much younger than most of the men in the area, he's actually about 100 years old and he has gained some renown for his distiller skills. Many a local man has come to his barn and drank himself into a stupor. This disappearance of his neighbor, Farmer Hal, has Rowan concerned, especially since Hal was at the barn the night before, singing and drinking with the rest of the men. Rowan doesn't like the rumors that the Whispering Woods might have something to do with it. He'd been inside those woods once or twice and felt uneasy enough to keep his stay short. Rowan has made up his mind to take and hand and search for Hal, though he doesn't know where to start. Maybe Hal's wife knows.
Very much interested but wondering how critical daily posting will be. I do try to get on and post daily in the forum games I play/DM in; but at the moment I'm coming out of a period of financial trouble and don't have my own internet, or any portable device I could use most public wifi. I am able to post using library computers, and it's looking like I'll have a laptop I can use in coffee shops etc. and/or home Internet and desktop back within the month; but a few days recently the library has been closed for some state holiday or other or else my life has gotten crazy and haven't been able to get there before closing time.
That said, this does sound like fun and I definitely like RP-heavy play, so I'll take the liberty of dropping in an application in case that's OK.(computer session abt to expire will edit in deets next login hope today hbave unti

How much experience do you have with DnD and the play-by-post setting?
I've been playing D&D pretty much since the beginning (coz' I really am old LOL) ... before 1st edition (which was called Advanced Dungeons and Dragons back then) -- started out with the red boxed Basic set where there were no outdoor rules and the alignments were just Law/Neutrality/Chaos. Branched out into other RPGs and quit D&D over 2nd edition; came back to learn 5th edition on this site and started doingplay by post about the same time (2019)
Character name:Skeeve "the Grate" Pimblewimble
Race: Forest gnome
Class: Rogue (planned specialization of arcane trickster at 3rd)
Background: Charlatan
Backstory: Skeeve Pimblewimble wasn't a bad gnome youth. He just had a dream. And the dream did really not include remaining an apprentice to the crazy old forest hermit Garkin whom his parents had bound him to under the impression that the aforesaid Garkin was actually a powerful wizard who had grown beyond the need for material things and could instruct their firstborn son in the arcane skills they had always dreamed he would someday make the Pimblewimble name famous with, any longer than was absolutely necessary. As he remarked to Garkin every time the crotchety old curmudgeon scolded him for his lack of motivation in mastering even the simplest cantrip, "Your lifestyle here gives me so much to look forward to." If the bloody fossil was such a powerful wizard as he claimed, why couldn't he turn lead into gold or conjure up a few jewels and get something better to eat than those damned roots that were always as bitter and tough as one of Urdlen's turds?!
But at least the fellow had taught him how to talk like a wizard, and look like a wizard, and some of the tricks Garkin intended to teach him the basic movements of spellcasting were damned useful to palm coins and make handkerchiefs look like he's turned them invisible after passing them through his fist. And he'd heard such skills were VERY lucrative in certain shadowy organizations in certain big cities ... ah, cities! He couldn't wait to get the hell out of this sleepy stupid countryside and get somewhere he could get a decent drink ... or ten ... and some lovely, understanding, luxurious companionship for the night ...
How did they find themselves in Meadowhaven?:Well, ya gotta start somewhere .... ;-D
1. No feats for this one, I'd like to keep it simple
2. Yes, it will be set in the Forgotten Realms, so religion, money, etc will be the same
3. Regarding posting, the ideal scenario will be daily but I don't know how realistic it will be when there will be 5-6 of us, life obviously happens. So a day or two delays won't be a problem but I hope it won't stretch to years 😅. I'm looking forward to your application Oisinmac anyway and hope things turn out for the better soon!
Applications are open until Saturday 16th inclusive, I'll aim to get back to players by Monday

Hey! How are you? I'd be interested in joining your game. I've been playing TTRPGs since I was 10. I started with 3.5e and also tried a few other systems. I have a fairly good understanding of the rules but I'm also flexible to what the DM decides is fair. As long as the game remains a game and everyone is having a good time. I've been playing on PbP for a while now. Like many people, most of my games end up fizziling out, but I have a few that are still kicking.
Character Name: Preston Jaeger
Race: Human
Class: Paladin
Backstory: Preston was born in Meadowhaven, but he and his parents moved to the city when he was still fairly young. Growing up, he was a bit of a wild child, full of energy but not much for discipline. But more than that, he liked to get into fights with other children. As a result, his parents sent him to a military school, hoping that he could learn to channel all this energy into something more productive, while also learning a bit of self-control. It did a lot of good for him. He was put in charge of a unit after proving to have some leadership skills.
One day, while on patrol outside the city, his unit was ambushed by orcs and they couldn't escape. Though they fought valiantly, they were outnumbered and it seemed like all was doomed. Luckily, a small group of paladin was passing by and rescued him and his men. The way they fought off the orcs truly inspired Preston and he had a knew goal. He wanted to be like them, to have their strenght.
After that day, he left the military and, thanks to his officer's recommandation, became a squire to a paladin, from whom learned some basic skills. Now, before taking his oath, he is sent on a journey to get some experience and help people along the way.
How did they find themselves in Meadowhaven? His mother received a letter from an old friend in Meadowhaven, telling him that his uncle Hal had disappeared. What better way to start his journey as an apprentice paladin than by saving his kin.
(I'm open to change some details or the entire character concept if need be. Thank you for your consideration.)
I do not have any experience in D&D or post and play discussion boards. This would be my first time playing but i would be so excited to participate.
Name: Elarian Shadowbreeze
Backstory: Elarian Shadowbreeze, a wise and enigmatic high elf, hails from the distant Elvenwood. He was born into a family of historians and scholars, dedicated to preserving the ancient knowledge of their people. From a young age, Elarian exhibited an insatiable curiosity about the arcane arts, and his talent for magic quickly became evident.
As he delved deeper into the study of magic, Elarian became fascinated by the Whispering Woods, hearing stories of its mystical secrets and the potential for forgotten elven magic hidden within. His relentless desire for knowledge led him to leave Elvenwood and venture into the wider world. His travels eventually brought him to Meadowhaven, where he believed he could uncover the mysteries of the Whispering Woods and perhaps even find traces of ancient elven magic.
Elarian arrived in Meadowhaven during the height of concern over Farmer Hal's disappearance. Drawn by rumors of strange occurrences in the Whispering Woods, he decided to offer his magical expertise to help investigate. He saw this as an opportunity not only to pursue his own magical interests but also to use his skills to aid in the search for Farmer Hal, but he does have ulterior motives; he sold his souls for knowledge and power, but after some time was told that good deeds could win his soul back.
Elarian is motivated by his insatiable thirst for knowledge, especially regarding ancient elven magic. He is also horribly awkward in social situations. He is chaotic-Neutral at best, and only out for himself.
Backstory: Dracor comes from a noble line of dragonborn and shares many of the physical attributes of both his golden scaled father and Silver scaled mother. Throughout his life, Dracor has been a disappointment to his family, choosing to spend his time focusing on partying and enjoying life rather than focusing on taking over the family business. Being the oldest of his siblings and the only one of them to have draconic power, the pressure on him to to meet there high expectations was very great. After having a few too many drinks and nearly burning down the family manor during a party, he was kicked out of his home. Now Dracor must set out on his own, cut off from the wealth and safety of his noble family... trying to find a way to prove to himself and to his family that he is more than just a screw-up.
How did they find themselves in Meadowhaven? After wondering various roads away from his home for days (weeks?), he found himself in Meadowhaven. He has been eager to find some way to begin to redeem himself and after hearing about the missing farmer... hopes that it may just be an opportunity to do some good.
Experience level: A fair bit, I'd say. I've been playing D&D for three years, and been in some PbP campaigns on here on-and-off. I briefly attempted to run Dragon Heist as a PbP for my friends on Discord one time, but it fizzled out. Such is life.
Name: Kariella "Ella" Oakenheart
Race: Dwarf
Class: Cleric (Life Domain)
Backstory: Ella was born into her faith, her parents having both been priests of the dwarven goddess Sharindlar. When she was a young child, though, they turned their back on their goddess in favor of the infernal, and subsequently left the temple, leaving their young daughter behind. Raised in this same temple, Ella has grown up in the shadow of her traitorous parents, acutely aware of how she is judged by others for it. She threw herself into her worship, hoping to prove herself as worthy, as nothing like her parents, but nothing ever seemed to be enough. She's had enough, and has left the temple, hoping to use her divine magic to do some good in the world.
How she found herself in Moonhaven: She's going where the road takes her, where she feels that her Lady is calling her to. Right now, that's here.
Recruitment is closed, thank you, everyone, for your interest. I have sent out a message to those who will be joining me, so if you've not heard of me, I'm sorry, it was a very difficult decision!

((What is your opinion of the variant human option? Considering a nature cleric with healer feat from variant human race.))

Character name: Merdak Glenhare
Race: Halfling
Class: Wizard
Background: Criminal
Backstory:
(Are we in Forgotten Realms? Because I'm planning on a cleric, so I'd like to know if I can use FR deities.)
Character name: Rowan Merrick
Race: Firbolg
Class: Druid
Background: Folk Hero
Backstory:
Rowan is a local.

Branched out into other RPGs and quit D&D over 2nd edition; came back to learn 5th edition on this site and started doingplay by post about the same time (2019)
Character name: Skeeve "the Grate" Pimblewimble
How did they find themselves in Meadowhaven?: Well, ya gotta start somewhere .... ;-D

To answer the questions:
Aeran Dormaris - L2 Paladin on his way to Phandelver
Vesna March - L1 Cleric in Etharis
DM The Missing Farmer
Character name: Dracor Shimmerscale
Race: Dragonborn
Class: Sorcerer (Draconic bloodline)
Character art:
Has this closed, or are you still recruiting?
Recruitment is closed, thank you, everyone, for your interest. I have sent out a message to those who will be joining me, so if you've not heard of me, I'm sorry, it was a very difficult decision!
