The fabric between your world and the nine circles of hell are thinning, sightings of Devils are rising in the Kingdom of Everjoy, and the most mediocre angel has gathered the most mediocre group to fight off against this threat. Your group will travel underground, through the pearly gates, in the blazing nine circles, and into Citadels. Will you be able to uncover and stop the threat?
characters start at level 3. Homebrew and multiclassing is okay but should be reasonable. You can use standard array or roll for stats if you’re feeling lucky, give your backstory, class, name, stats, character sheet, and your introduction. No encumbrance. I’m looking for about 5 players and 2 posts daily.
your group were all drawn by an illuminated, golden light. You met in the middle of a run down and abandoned library, a mess of books, tea cups, and golden strands of hair with a winged, tired looking woman waiting for you. She had an eager yet frustrated smile, she looked like she had just remembered and finished a last second assignment.
Brennar grew up fascinated by the fires his father worked at daily. He thought he would one day become an ironsmith as had his father and his father's father before him. Yet, fate and destiny tend to dictate one's choices. The war drums were sounding daily; Brennar answered the call. Over time, he rose to command a squad of frontline fighters and did some good (in his opinion).
Sadly, not all battles can be won. Due to the enemy calling up foul creatures of darkness, his entire company got pulled into a running retreat. Losing good dwarves as they slowed the attacking darkness so the dwarven troops could escape, regroup and hold the line. Brennar lost many on his left and right that day. He ended up binding wounds and trying to catch his breath in the ruins of an old, rustic chapel.
It was then, Brennar was offered a different path by the gods. Or more specifically, by Moradin Himself. To become One with the Light to repel the darkness. A harder battle than the one he just escaped but, one Brennar did not refuse.
Brennar sighed and shrugged his shoulders to reset the pack on his back. He had been travelling cross country for a week now; led to this destination by a golden light. Whispered assurances of the import of the light came each morning and evening with his prayers to Moradin. Brennar felt it in his bones that - 'this time' - it was something more than dragging black souls into the sunlight to confess their sins or watching creatures turn to dust when touched by the cleansing fires. 'This time' just felt different.
No door to knock on, Brennar walked slowly into a room already filled with other travellers. Brennar took in his surroundings; guessing this may have once been a library or some scholar's prize possessions but, now showing the signs of long neglect. Odder still was the figure in the center of the room. If one discounted the wings, she? could be mistaken for a bedraggled citizen of some lesser station; come in to escape the changing weather.
"Always have to be different, no didn't ya Ulf?" his father would ask him whenever Ulf played with a make believe bow instead of his wooden axe when he was younger. The young dwarf never wanted to be in the mines of his mother's clan or in the heavy chainmail of his father's mercenary company. He always wanted to travel where ever and when ever. When he met the human Rory in the forest who came out of no where, he realized he wanted to be just like that seemingly ancient ranger. He took service as an apprentice with Rory Menhirin and served in the local human kingdoms forestry service while training. When he finished his apprenticeship, he was asked to perform one final service, which led him to his current location.
Looking at this "Adele" he offers her an unsealed envelope and asks "Are you the one who sent this letter requesting aid?"
Brunor Heavenhelm, Centaur Barbarian, path of the Earth Shaker (Homebrew), lived with his small tribe for most of his life, wandering the fields, and exploring. Recently, he was kicked out for getting to wild. He was always starting fights, and always running of for whatever reason. When he saw the light, he couldn't help but see what it was. He is eager to see some action, have an actual adventure. Probably too eager... He mostly uses a lance, but is pretty handy with axes as well.
Class: Monk - Way of the Arcane Hand - Dungeons Dudes, Sebastian Crow's Guide to Drakkenheim
Backstory: Kuri clutched the worn copy of "Under the Velvet Sky" to her chest, its spine cracked from countless rereads. The rain lashed against her window, mimicking the storm raging inside her. Tomorrow, she'd leave the sleepy coastal town of Alcuma, the only home she'd ever known, for the bustling streets of [campaign city].It wasn't a fight with her parents, though their smothering concern felt like one. Alcuma offered a life of predictability - working at the family bakery, marrying a local boy, watching the same sunrise and sunset for the rest of her days. Kuri craved the unpredictable, the explosion of color and noise promised in her well-thumbed book.[campaign city] wasn't just a city - it was a symbol. A symphony of arcane lights replacing the comforting hum of the ocean. A language that whispered secrets she yearned to understand. More than anything, it was a chance to paint her own sunrise.Leaving her parents was the hardest part. Her mother's tears, heavy as the rain, and her father's unspoken worry etched lines on his face deeper than any smile. But Kuri promised tearful goodbyes with a lump in her throat, "I'll write as soon as I can, and maybe, someday, you can visit."
Introduction: "Oh HI! I'm Kuri! It's nice to meet you, I heard you might need help or something like that, and well I'm pretty good at helping people you know?"
(Looks like we have enough characters. One other person is joining, they sent me their details on PM.)
“Yes, in fact I do need help. You would’ve known that sightings of Devils have bolstered recently, your group needs to find out who is causing this and how to stop it. Failure to do so will result in Devils running rampant and taking over your plane.” She says, she’s talking really impatiently. “And anybody who objects will be part of the first who perish to the Devils.” She clearly hasn’t thought of a way to convince you.
Backstory: Her stage name is Viola, but she had no given name due to being enslaved and sold since childhood. She longs for a way to escape, when one day her caravan is attacked. She took her chance and ran as far as she could, ending up... somewhere. Due to her years of servitude she is very quiet and despondent. She hardly even remembers how to emote properly. She wasn't taught about things like sarcasm or sayings so she takes everything literally. She doesn't like yelling or the cracking sound of a whip. She uses two Chakrams and a Scimitar to defend herself (the Chakrams are just reflavored daggers that do slashing rather than piercing.)
Introduction:
A young tiefling peeked her head through the door, and looked around a bit awkwardly. She had seen the light illuminating the library and felt drawn to it in a way she couldn't understand. Her skin was that of a plum, with short, messy hair similar to that of an ore of quartz. Her tail peaked through the thin cloak she wore as she slowly walked inside, breathing a sigh of relief as she did. She bundled the edges of her cloak in her fists and wrapped it around herself. "...It's warm..." she muttered to herself.
Her ears twitched as she heard the winged woman speak, and she turned to face her, nodding her head respectfully as she was taught to do so. "Ms. Adele... were you the one calling...?"

She politely nods her head to Viola before continuing “there’s some sightings of the Veilbound circle, a cultist group, meeting in areas with high Devil sightings. This is their emblem.” She shows you a piece of paper with two comedy masks circled by a language you can’t understand.
OOC >>> With the 'new' 2024 'form'... a character is automatically given common and then rolls (or just chooses) 2 additional languages.
Which is kind of weird because it was always 'assumed' in the past a character knew 'common' AND their race language... a dwarf knew dwarvish, elf / elvish, etc.
Using the logic, Kuri should at least know common and mouse-ish?
From the DDB Character generator >>>
Your character knows at least three languages: Common plus two languages you roll or choose from the Standard Languages table. Knowledge of a language means your character can communicate in it, read it, and write it. Your class and other features might also give you languages.
The Standard Languages table lists languages that are widespread on D&D worlds. Every player character knows Common, which originated in the planar metropolis of Sigil, the hub of the multiverse. The other standard languages originated with the first members of the most prominent species in the worlds of D&D and have since spread widely.

"...Devils." The word flashed in Viola's mind, bringing back vivid memories of the crack of her former master's whip as he cursed her lineage. Her body shook as she shook her head, trying to shake the memory out of her mind. She wrapped her cloak around herself tighter as she looked at the emblem curiously, but said nothing.

I guess i didn't really describe what Bruno did when he entered the library. In short, he came charging in with his great big axe, ready to do some real smiting. Upon discovering that there wasn't a horde of enemies inside, he cooled off rapidly. "Er-heh? What's this witchcraft? Who are you? Are you in need of some head cleaving? I'm Brunor. What's going on?" He's very excited, already believing that he has found his first real adventure.
