Years of blood, death, screams of the living and the rattling bones of those not quite dead - it's all over now. Whether you were a ruthless soldier, a simple field medic, for just another civilian caught up in all of this mess, you and your squadron have survived the impossible. A foretold calamity, an invasion of the creatures from the Nine Hells, and the northern Giants allied with the blasted fiends. You and your group have been cordially invited, due to your valor in battle (whether or not you were actually useful in the fight) to a celebration in the newly established country of Beilor. The celebration is in honor of the coronation of a new Imperator, the great hero Azerlius that led your rag tag alliance of mortals to victory against the endless tide of fiends. Finally, you have your lives back. Peace seems so close....yet something strange is stirring. Hidden in castle walls, whispers and coincidences - something isn't right about all of this. Here, in the stories of kings and primordials long ago, there are secrets. Keep your wits about you, and remember, even the dead are never truly silent.
Welcome to Zaidan! My name is Cyno and I'll be running this adventure in my home-brew world. Your characters are survivors of a years long war between the mortals of Zaidan and the Giants of the north, who have unleashed the full might of the Lower Planes upon the planet. With the help of the Heavens, Mechanus, and the dragons, you've won the war, driving the fiends back through their portal and sealing it forever. Working together, the alliance created a massive wall to separate the war-torn north and south continent, a safety measure to defend against any other invasion force that dares to attack them again. The Imperator, Asarco Azerlius, has sealed off the world from further interference from any extraplanars, trapping those already there and preventing any more from entering. Now begins a new Golden Age, where countries have started to draw borders and technological advancements have begun. It is up to your party to investigate the true origin of this Calamity and uncover the secrets behind the victors of the war.
I'll likely be accepting anywhere between 4-6 party members, though I may take on more. I made this adventure to be a one-shot, but if people enjoy it, I don't mind taking it further as a full campaign.
If you'd like to join, please answer the following questions in a post below! :)
Your preferred name and pronouns
Favorite class and subclass
How active you'll probably be
Your experience level with DND 5e
(Optional) A character concept or design you have in mind
What I'm Looking For/What to Expect:
The beginning of this will likely be mostly story driven and lore heavy, with a theme of intrigue. If that's not your style, that's totally fine! I'm willing to adjust to add more combat or other elements that are more preferable.
I'd recommend a decent bit of optimization. This doesn't mean that you have to minmax your character by any means, but please have your ability score spread placed correctly according to your class - this is just so that you don't fall behind in encounters and interactions.
I'm looking for people that can be online at least every other day, but of course that's not a hard rule and I'm not going to kick you out unless I have good reason
Zaidan is a sort of steampunk, dark fantasy post apocalyptic world, but that doesn't mean there won't be silliness.
Information About Me:
I've been playing DND for a looooong time now, and I'd like to think I'm pretty experienced. If you have any questions, please ask. I'll be helping through the entire character creation process
Zaidan is my passion project and is full to the brim with lore. It makes me very happy when people are invested, but if you're here just for a game, I hope you have a good time anyways
I'm a university student, currently working, so my schedule may be a bit wacky
I love drawing !!!! I may draw some of yalls characters :)
My favorite colors are red and gold, and my favorite animal is a crocodile
Zaidan has a lot of lore, so I'll provide a simple summary here and then a larger one for any players that join. Or, if you don't want to read all that, that's fine too.
Zaidan is a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by war and deitfic beings of old, a world where monsters roam, where strict doctrine stifles civilization, where disease and rot grips the population, and a place where not even the gods survive. Despite its harsh conditions, its inhabitants have grown and evolved beyond their past limits, creating vibrant civilizations and culture along with technological advancements comparable to the early Industrial Revolution. With the use of domesticcation and genetic experimentation, the world of Zaidan is equipped with a plethora of war machines and magical creatures. Ever since its creation, Zaidan has been at war. Well known for its abundance of dangerous wildlife and inhabitants, it’s only natural that such creatures would end up competing for the same space. Struck by calamity after calamity, all creatures of Zaidan are shaped and bred for one purpose: survival.
CHARACTER CREATION INFORMATION:
Many races in Zaidan are unique and have their own lore. Elves, drow, tieflings, gith, dragonborn, and a multitude of other races are vastly different from their Forgotten Realms counterparts. If you have any race in mind that you want to play or want to know the lore of, please ask in a post below :)
Character Creation Rules:
Your characters will be Level 4. This is negotiable, and I can change it to 5 if y'all would rather.
Rolled gold or starting equipment are both fine. Please roll your gold in a post below if that's what you choose. You may roll gold and then decide whether to keep it or choose starting equipment
Your Ability Scores will use one of the four arrays below:
18 16 14 12 11 7
16 16 16 13 10 8
17 17 12 12 9 9
17 16 15 13 11 8

Blinding Shot. When you take the attack action, you can choose to replace an attack with your Blinding Shot. You must make a ranged attack against a single target using your dexterity modifier + proficiency bonus, and upon a hit the creature must make a DEX save with a DC equal to 8 + PB + CON mod or be blinded until the start of your next turn. They generally lack eyebrows and hair, instead growing layers of scales over their head. They also have scales along their back in a large almost shell-like shape. There are two variants of Wollick - Armos and Pangos. Armos tend to have less scales and are slimmer, more in touch with their natural magic sources. They have much longer than average lifespans and attract the attention of nearby extraplanars. However, Nephalem are a very strong race and excellent at handling themselves. They are solitary and most individuals in Zaidan treat them as they would treat any other individual. Another variant of the Nephalem is the Lesser Nephalem, a more common variant that exists as the offspring of an fiendish tiefling and an aasimar.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to half of your proficiency bonus (rounded up) per long rest.

Me too. Another random idea popped into my head but it’s warlock which is usually very dependent on the setting: basically a warlock of some sort of powerful figure similar to the Arthurian Lady of the Lake, who became a warlock for (insert reason) but once the war started, their patron forced them to join the fray or risk losing their powers. Also kinda want to use the Simic hybrid so maybe that was a side product of the deal or something, turning into a hybrid. Fishfolk could work too. Either way it would be fathomless warlock.
im meta (she/her) my favorite class is cleric but my favorite sub is probably glamour bard i can be on and post most days (unless i forget :[ ) ive been actively playing for probably 4 or 5 years and have some decent experience ive already built a sheet (playing a kipling but i dont have the race on ddb ;() its a twilight cleric grappler build if you dont want to read it

That definitely works! A lot of powerful extraplanar patrons took on warlocks and formed noble houses from them (example: House Listonia was a prominent force with a unicorn patron) so maybe like that? I haven’t seen many fathomless warlocks before

One of the reasons there aren’t many fathomless is because a lot of the patrons fit into other categories. Aboleths are great old ones, sea hags are Archfey, and the previously mentioned inspiration I want for this patron, the lady of the lake, could be either Archfey or celestial. So basically the patron would be some sort of powerful force of good tied to a body of water, who, when the war starts, sends her warlocks to go and help out. Basically.

What I'm Looking For/What to Expect:
Information About Me:

Syran Training. You gain proficiency in all ranged weapons including firearms.
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your level.
Wollick - Wollick are a race of monstrosities that resemble hunched humanoids with strange eyes, typically unnatural colors with massive pupils. They generally lack eyebrows and hair, instead growing layers of scales over their head. They also have scales along their back in a large almost shell-like shape. There are two variants of Wollick - Armos and Pangos. Armos tend to have less scales and are slimmer, more in touch with their natural magic sources. They carry a few innate abilities that allow them to better cast spells. Pangos are much more physically fortified and have an easier time escaping situations by curling up and rolling away.
Ability Score Improvements. When determining your character’s ability scores, increase one of those scores by 2 and increase a different score by 1, or increase three different scores by 1.

Tuck and Curl. As an action, you wrap your tail around your head in order to protect yourself, which grants you a bonus to your AC equal to your proficiency bonus. While in this form, you may only take the dash action, and opportunity attacks against you have disadvantage. You may exit the form by expending an action.
Keen Hearing and Smell. You have advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on hearing or smell.
Nephalem - The unholy offspring of a fiend and a celestial, a Nephalem is hated by both the Upper and the Lower Planes. Barred from the Heavens and hunted in the Hells, Nephalem typically make their homes in the Material Plane.
Ability Score Improvements. When determining your character’s ability scores, increase one of those scores by 2 and increase a different score by 1, or increase three different scores by 1.
Languages. You speak Celestial and two languages of your choice.
Creature Type. Your creature type is Humanoid.
Size. You are Medium.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 ft.

Mixed Blood. You have resistance to fire and radiant damage.
Unholy Intervention. As an action, you can choose to embody the power of one of your parents’ lineages, celestial or fiend. When you choose celestial, you gain temporary hit points equal to your level plus your proficiency bonus and are under the effects of blade ward until the end of your next turn. For the next minute, you regain 1d6 hp per round.
When choosing fiend, you add your damage modifier twice upon making a critical hit. You now crit on a 19-20 and overcome any physical resistances the target has. These effects last for one minute.
You can use this feature a number of times equal to half of your proficiency bonus (rounded up) per long rest.

Ello Cyno!
-preferred name and pronouns: Archfey on the forums is fine, They/Them on the forums as well
-favorite class and subclass: hard one, either spores Druid or fathomless/archfey warlock
-probably post at least a few times every 1-2 days.
-been playing for around 4 years, but have known the rules and owned the books for around 5. So pretty experienced.
i feel like possibly playing either an eldritch knight or arcane archer fighter, or maybe a gloomstalker ranger. Not many ideas for backstory yet.
Hi archfey!! Gloomstalker ranger would be super awesome. It's def one of my favorite ranger subclasses

This sounds very interesting:
D&D since 1984
hiii :3
im meta (she/her)
my favorite class is cleric but my favorite sub is probably glamour bard
i can be on and post most days (unless i forget :[ )
ive been actively playing for probably 4 or 5 years and have some decent experience
ive already built a sheet (playing a kipling but i dont have the race on ddb ;() its a twilight cleric grappler build if you dont want to read it

Basically.
hi y’all!
your preferred name and pronouns: call me crabs 🦀 or etta! i use they/them pronouns.
favourite class and subclass: it’s a hard choice between clerics and barbarians! i love them both. for subclass though, i like barbarian’s path of the ancestral guardian.
how active you'll probably be: my school finals are coming up soon. i’ll try to be active every other day or so, but otherwise 2–3 times a week. 😔
your experience level with DND 5e: i’d say i’m decently experienced! i’ve played dnd 5e on discord on and off with my friends for the last 3–4 years. but i’m new to pbp so i’ll facing off a learning curve. totally understand if this is a deterrent!
a character concept or design you have in mind: possibly a syrafin circle of spores druid or a barbarian path of the totem warrior, if either work.
thank you for your time!
