Alright so I've decided to run a DnD Campaign themed around the anime Dragon Ball Z.
The Campaign Story will follow the story of the anime. It will start with the first episode of DBZ where Goku's brother, Raditz shows up. The story will go up to the end of Buu Saga where Kid Buu is defeated. This campaign will not go into the events of Dragon Ball Super though it might borrow and/or modify characters from that series. Speaking of modification, various liberties and modifications will be made to what is and isn't there in the Dragon Ball universe for the sake of game balance and offering player freedom. In short, this campaign follows the story of Dragon Ball Z but it does not adhere strictly to canon.
Speaking of canon and modification, I will focus heavily on player freedom here. So based on the actions players take, it may change the story of the anime drastically. For example, Goku may not become a Super Saiyan on Namek. There may be two Cells running around, Buu may not even revive, new villains and story lines may be made up to accommodate player actions etc. I think it may be fun to see how closely the game's story remains with the anime's story or how far it veers off.
In short, this campaign will follow the basic story of the anime but will not adhere strictly to it or canon.
Character Creation:
So first off, you don't need to have watched the anime to participate. I am looking for 4 players who can post once a day.
Characters will be at level 3 and leveling will be done by Milestone. Stats will be rolled. Roll 4d6 drop lowest. However, after rolling if you don't like your stat set, you may choose to ignore it and use point buy. All official classes except for Artificer is allowed. You may also choose to play Blood Hunter. However all the classes have been reflavored lore wise. The classes all gained their abilities either through Ki, Magic or Technology. As for races, you keep the race's racial bonuses and traits but the races don't keep their appearance, height or aging. Those will instead follow established races of the Dragon Ball Universe. Basically, you get to take a race for its mechanical bonus but don't follow how the race looks or ages. Also all of your characters will have a flying speed equal to your walking speed.
Races and sub races that are NOT allowed: Sea-Elf, Drow, Grey Dwarf, Aarakocra, Kobold, Orc, Triton, Feral Tiefling, Changling, Shifter, Kalashtar, Eberron Orc, Centaur, Vedalken, Simic Hybrid, Verdan, Locathah.
How your character will look and the narrative behind it: As for what race your character is in-terms of narrative instead of mechanics, you can be any of the established races in Dragon Ball Universe. Some of the most common races can be humans and the anthropomorphic animals that can be seen in the anime. You can also be other races like Saiyans or Namekians though you won't gain any mechanical benefits from it. If you choose to be an exotic alien race, make sure to include in your backstory of how and why your character grew up on Earth.
Backstory: As said before, be sure to add why and how your character was raised on Earth if you choose an exotic alien race. Other than that, they can not be related to any of the main cast of the anime. Also be sure to end your backstory with the answer to the following question:
What was your character doing when Raditz landed in the wastelands of Earth?
Equipment: Guns appear to be useless in the DBZ universe so we are going to stick to normal DnD 5e equipment like Swords and chain mails. Your character gets standard equipment.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Ability scores: 18817111510Willing to give this a try, have not watched the shows though...
Probably do some sort of Shadow Sorceror for this. I do not know the lore or races of the game, so might need some help figuring out that part. Will finalize the character later today.
Going for original characters. I don't want any connection to the PCs to the show's characters. Also you can be a Saiyan but you won't get any mechanical benefits from it. For mechanical benefits and racial features, we are using the normal DnD Races. Also you should include in your backstory how and why a Saiyan has spend a considerable time on Earth.
Okay. So better to go Human since any Saiyan would have some link to Goku or Vegeta. So saw them on TV during a World Tournament kinda thing, decided to follow that path but never met them.
When I said they must not have any link, I meant a more stronger link like you can't be any alternate versions of said characters and you can't be related to them. However, being one of the last surviving Saiyans after Freeza blew up Planet Vegeta, though is a link to Goku and Vegeta, it's not a strong enough link. You can be a Saiyan like that. You can also say you're a member of the Freeza force but just a grunt that Freeza doesn't even know exists.
I love the idea of this, but I also know just enough and at the same time not enough about DBZ lore to know I shouldn't play in this game, better to leave it for the true fans! I do love the idea of someone playing a warforged as an android though. It might be mandatory that when initiating a fight with a warforged race participant, that all fights have to last at least a minimum of 10 rounds regardless of whether or not any damage or death is dealt during those rounds. ;-)
Talon was born and raised in a small nomadic community in the plains far north of east city. His youth was rather uneventful, but martial prowess among his 'tribe' for want of a better word was considered an important and necessary focus to build strength and discipline. Being the youngest of his four siblings, there was little he could do to be of use when he came of age and so he set off in search of a purpose and eventually found himself in East City where he entered the annual martial arts contest. A representative of East City Dojo and Recreation center of learning and development took great interest in his style of fighting and took him in as a partner, where they taught each other their various styles and together developed the combat art now known as the way of the East City Talon. Talon is a well known and upstanding member of the community, always ready to step in when needed in order to keep order to keep the peace.
"Warriors do not like to lose. And we lost everything. Even if we couldn't have saved Planet Vegeta, we would have died with honor trying. Fight to keep what is yours."
The backwater planet was supposed to a short stop. Their loyalty to Lord Frieza destroyed along with their planet, Dakon's parents went to the minor planet far from his gaze. With no incentive to try and overtake the planet, they meant to stay only long enough to plan their next move.
Even they could not tell Dakon why they had stayed. Even as they told him of Planet Vegeta and its lost, they did not attempt to find if other Sayians had survived.
With Earth the only planet he had known, Dakon grew to feel possessive of it. He swore to do whatever he could to protect it.
And he knew he had found his way when he learned of the Blood Hunters.
The process was nothing compared to the desire of a Saiyan.
He trained hard qto master his new abilities. He would seek out real situations to better test himself. If others were helped by his actions, so be it.
He was looking for such a thing when something streaked across. Different thing to what Earthlings had. Something made him want to follow it.
Nolla is a pretty, auburn-haired, woman. She found that she was different early in her life, the shadows themselves seeming to react to her as she moved through them, reaching out for her or swirling strangely. Her ability to see in the dark was especially remarkable, which she knew was not at all normal.
Nolla skirted the line between criminal and the law, learning the arts of a thief, but using them sparingly. She made many contacts among the underworld segments, but never joined any thief guild or other organization herself.
Well, magic exists so maybe your character had led a normal life until one day, they tried to rob a library or something and found an old book containing various rituals and spells. Then after practicing with the book for a year, your character can now cast magic.
Oh it is normal earth but with some advanced tech like spaceships (That ultimately don't go very fast or far) and capsules which are like Pokeballs but for tools and items.
A former member of the Red Ribbon Army Black Ops, Yatsu took various job ranging from infiltration to assassination. After the RRA was defeated, he became a mercenary, taking on missions for the highest bidder.

I want in. Thinking Saiyan Blood Hunter if I can figure it out. Could I do it as a AU version of Vegeta or are you going for original characters?

Looks good. When you finish the backstory, post it on this thread because it will not appear on your character sheet for anyone other than you.
Also, would you like to use point buy or keep the rolled stats?
I'll keep the rolled stats.

Oh, I can get the magical part, just not anything about your world. I have never seen the shows... Is it just normal earth or some special world?
Oh it is normal earth but with some advanced tech like spaceships (That ultimately don't go very fast or far) and capsules which are like Pokeballs but for tools and items.
All I know about DBZ is from watching TeamFourStar’s content. I don’t know if that’s a problem so feel free to just disregard my application if it is.
